«Yeah, you see eleven condoms; I see eleven minutes of my life I’m never getting back.» — Maggie, The Walking dead Sidney Reviews A Calero Walking/Hiking Trail Part I John D wrote about the paved part, here is my take on the unpaved part since he cannot read maps: Dusty with lovely creek and oak views until you get to the backside of Santa Teresa Park and then it is just dusty. Decent biking but the hiking/walking is just average. Only seek out this trail if you want to connect to the backside of Santa Teresa but even then there are better hiking trails to go on. Keep the 11 minutes on Calero Creek for more enjoyable activities ;) Having said that, the paved section might come in handy for running/walking as fall and winter approach. I will have to see what kind of workout I can cobble together outdoors when light is minimal.

I recently came across this Trail while I was doing my cool down walk after jogging on the Los Alamitos Creek(LAC) Trail. The trailhead for this trail starts on Camden Ave; about 500′ east of where LAC Trail meets Camden. The first ¾-mile of this trail is paved and runs alongside Camden Ave and then it just seems to abruptly end at Harry Rd. Now I had downloaded the Trail Map from the City’s website and knew it continued, but I guess I didn’t memorize it well enough and made a left, instead of a right. I started running up some back country –well, as back country as it get for SJ– roads and when the sound of banjos was deafening I turned around and headed back from whence I cometh. I know it’s partially my fault for not going where I was supposed to, but there was definitely a lack of clear signage showing me where to continue up the trail. I will go back again and do a drive-by where I got lost and see if I can’t figure out where/how I went wrong. After looking at the map again I don’t think it would’ve mattered anyways. It looks like the section past the Harry rd/Camden Ave intersection is all unpaved and may be too rough to take my jogging stroller on anyways. To be continued…
