It’s been awhile since I last ate here, so my cravings for papaya salad and crab fried rice lead me here after work! I got there about thirty minutes before closing and the lady took my to-go order right away! Blue mango is known for having one of the best crab fried rice around, so I just had to give it another try… It was really good this time around! Had the perfect amount of crab meat in it and it tasted really good with the papaya salad. I usually get the papaya salad mild here which is perfect! Only thing I noticed was that the portions were so small for the price! The crab fried rice was placed on foil in the to-go box and it wasn’t even filled up like how they did before! Same with the papaya salad… one order of papaya salad didn’t even fill up the whole box. The foil was a nice touch and all but it’s also a good way to lessen the amount of food. Still giving this place 3 — 3.5 stars cause I feel that the quality of food is better this time…

First up, I love Thai food. also I am vegetarian. So when a restaurant has a separate vegetarian menu with over 60 items, its already a culinary winner in my book. I have been to both San Jose locations of this restaurant multiple times and it has always been my first choice for Thai food. Funnily enough, I also associate this place as one that scared the wits out of my son when he was two years old. The Coleman Avenue restaurant has huge murals on the walls of(I suppose) celestial beings that my son could not stop whining about. Luckily, they were able to change our seating to another spot where my son had his back to the paintings. I have drooled multiple times over the ‘Pra Ram Peanut Tofu’ which, in my opinion is one of the best vegetarian choices. I just wish the portions of this dish were a bit bigger. I always end up finishing this dish way too soon and then start poking around my hubby’s plate. The curries have just the right amount of spice in them(of course you can request them to prepare the curries according to your spice quotient). Even the sides are delicious. I always end up ordering the Tofu Sate or the egg fried rice for my son and watch delightedly as he digs in enthusiastically. I am definitely a fan and will be returning very soon.

yet again, wanted to stop out of my rung thai box, so i arranged to have a girls xmas dinner here. came in a thurs night and there was ample of seating. ordered: tom yum soup– when it came out i was already turned off. the broth was not at all colorful. usually they appear really orange. i didnt want to justify it by its color, but i could already tell that it was not even going to be average. sip sip sipppp… and it was def not to my liking. the soup tasted like those asian noodle packages i eat at home. papaya salad– flavoring was different and it was really SOUR. pad thai– it was OK. not bad but not wow. yellow curry– blah lastly, the famous crab fried rice… now at this point, i had no more expectations… to my surprise it was extremely good. the rice was super small in portion tho, and that was the only downside. it was def the winner. only plate that was scraped/licked clean. customer service was great tho. food? not so much.

My husband was in the mood for Thai food for dinner. We are still new to the area and found this place on Google. It was pretty busy but we didn’t want to find another place so decided to get it to go. The wait wasn’t too long. The waitress was ok. When I asked about drinks she just stared at me like I was stupid. So we got Thai Iced Teas, Pad Thai, and the big mixed appetizer. It wasn’t too long before our food was ready. We threw out the teas before we even got home with our food, they just had a really bad aftertaste. The appetizers were not impressive, but not a deal breaker either. The edamame was good. The Pad Thai was bad. Half the tofu was too tough to eat, there was no flavor, and the noodles were overcooked. Then my husband got to the bottom of his and found a paper towel, we think. Sorry but you lose all your stars when there is garbage in the food. We won’t be coming back.

My group of about 20 folks decided to come to Blue Mango for dinner last week as the restaurant offers a variety of dishes for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I of course had to make a reservation a day in advance to make sure there would be enough space for everyone, the process was done quickly on the phone! +1 star When we arrived at the restaurant, everyone was greeted, seated, and handed the menus promptly. The staff were nice and friendly. +1 star I ordered basil & chili beef for about $ 9 without acknowledging it would come without rice, so I ended up having to ask for a small bowl of steamed white rice for $ 2 each. So for my own part alone, it was already $ 11 plus 10% tax plus 18% tip. I thought that was quite overpriced for what I had! –1 star On the other hand, I really liked the dish I ordered. I’m glad they didn’t overcook the beef, the onions and the bell peppers were fully cooked but they still managed to maintain its freshness somehow. It was made medium spicy, and for Chrissake, it was quite hot actually, but I liked it! +1 star After the meal, we sat back for a bit to chat with one another, but not so long after that, one of the staff came over and asked us to leave because they were going to close within 5 minutes! When we looked around, there were still people sitting at other tables waiting and some were having their food. I wondered how the«we’re closing in 5 minutes!» would work for them. But oh well, since they wanted us to leave, we couldn’t say no! –1 star

My go-to Thai place, even if it’s slipped a little from its former 5-star glory. The Blue Mango fried rice is a thing of beauty and a joy forever when they do it right(which used to be 100% of the time but now seems closer to 75%). I’m a fan of getting it to go these days, though. The last time I ate in, my waitress acted like she was annoyed every time I asked for anything.

Since we had some time to kill before going to Stevens Creek Honda, we ate here for lunch. I was excited to have the Mango Stir Fry with beef after having it at their other location on Coleman. The version here is definitely different from the other location. It was still good, but did not satisfy the craving I had. It wasn’t as garlicky and made me wonder if the other location added too much on accident. The portions seemed a little bigger here which was nice. We also ordered the spicy noodles here and they were amazing. The noodles were cooked better and had more flavor. The spice level matched what we ordered so we enjoyed it more than the first time. The crab fried rice was pretty darn tasty. Lots of crab. they definitely don’t leaving you wanting more. Service here was good just like the other location as well. I guess for the food, it’s hit or miss with the different dishes. I highly recommend the spicy noodles.

I used to come here for lunch and dinner all the time, long before I started Unilocaling. For some reasons this little restaurant had fell off the back of my mind. It had been 2 years since I last ate here. Blue Mango is exactly as I remembered. Almost nothing had changed. Menu, décor and even the price remained pretty much the same. Food is quite likable. While dishes are still not the most authentic, the flavors are balanced and the sauces are not overly sweet. They have a very good vegetarian menu and some interesting western style appetizers and desserts. Portion is a bit small for the price. Best Thai food it might not be. Still a good place for lunch. The décor are really dated and there is this old furniture smell that is getting overwhelming. Probably not the best place to bring your date to.

I love this place! Been coming here for about 5 years now. I have tried a few things on the menu but I always come back to the traditional Chicken Pad Thai. I have removed 1 star because they no longer serve it with tofu, which was one of my favorite parts. It was crispy on the outside and moist and soft on the inside… so good. But, the pad thai is still pretty bomb-dot-com. Also, the veggie rolls are good, and the deserts are an adventure! I use them for take-out mostly. They can be kind of slow inside… * Sign up for their mailing list to get coupons! *

This is one of two outposts of Blue Mango and I find this one to be not quite as good as the Coleman Avenue branch. Both of the restaurants feature a full, separate vegetarian menu(that is mostly vegan), so make sure to ask for this upfront. I wish the waiters made a point of asking whether or not we’d like the vegetarian menu; a lot of Indians eat at Blue Mango, for example, and they often times are vegetarian, but don’t realize a vegetarian menu exists. Anyway, my brother and I shared a «Panang curry with tofu»($ 10), a «Rad Na»($ 10), and a «Dried Chili and cashew with tofu»($ 9). The Panang curry was nicely thick and hearty, though they skimp on the vegetables and tofu in the dish. This was unfortunately consistent with the Coleman Avenue location as well. While this dish was good, the curry was slightly too sweet(a mistake that the Coleman Avenue branch did not make). Similarly, the Dried Chili dish was good, but not quite as savory as at the Coleman Avenue branch. At this Stevens Creek location they once again put too much sugar in the sauce. Lastly, the Rad Na was decent. I think the sauce could have used some more seasoning and freshness(more fermented black beans, and less corn starch), but it otherwise was competently made. While the service was friendly, it was also slow and erratic. We waited at least 20 minutes for our food, if not longer, and the place wasn’t even busy. All in all, I’d rather go to the Coleman Avenue location, if only for the food alone. While the ambiance at Stevens Creek is nicer, the food is what matters at the end of the day.

Another yummy lunch spot close to my office! My coworkers and I came here today for our Friday lunch. We were planning on going to Subway, which is right next door, but Blue Mango smelled soooo good that we had to go inside. Very happy we did! :) The servers were all very nice and attentive; they took our orders promptly, refilled waters without us having to ask, and brought the food out quickly even though there was a lunch rush. I ordered the vegetarian pad thai and I loved it! I had never tried pad thai before(gasp!!) and it was a great debut. Super flavorful and fresh. Also, they brought out coconut milk soup as an appetizer for everyone and it was soooo good. Very good start to lunch! All my coworkers were happy with their meals too. We were not sad that we swapped Subway for Thai food, haha. I have to say though, for lunch the prices were pretty high. ~$ 10 for everything, and the specials were even more expensive? That’s not how it normally works but okay. :P If it were a little cheaper, I would come here more. Since it’s yummy I’ll definitely be back though! Tip: The front parking lot is small and normally busy, but if you go to the back lot there’s normally more spots! Also, if you come with a group, just know that they can’t do separate checks, and they can only run up to two credit cards per check. We learned the hard way but we made it work!

First timer today! Went with my friend for dinner because I had a bad day and was craving Thai food haha. He surprised me and took me here. It was his 3rd time eating at Blue Mango. Food: A– Based on the Crab Fried Rice and Chicken, Shrimp, Tofu Pad Thai The quality of the food is delicious! The Crab Fried Rice had a good amount of crab in it– thank God they didn’t skimp out on the portions hehe. The rice was fried very evenly with flavorful seasonings. The Pad Thai was also done very well with good portions of chicken, tofu and shrimp. The shrimps were pretty big and the noodles were not too oily or dry :) I would definitely recommend both and hopefully next time I can try the Pad See Ew. Drink: B Your typical sweet Thai Ice Tea for $ 3. However sadly, there is no unlimited drinks or refills of any kind. There’s a cool deal where you can get 2 quarts of Thai Ice Tea for $ 10! Awesome!!! Location/Ambiance: B Located on the well-known Stevens Creek Boulevard, Blue Mango is easy to spot and locate thanks to their huge sign. There is a good amount of space for parking. The restaurant itself is not that spacious. There is probably like 20 or less tables inside but the interior decorations are very memorable haha. The walls are literally 3 different kinds of color with Thai and artistic flowers/scenery paintings around(the paintings are for sale too). There are also some Thai statues around that look pretty neat. The tables look simple with blue table clothes and white paper coverings. Service: B Fast, quick, service! They greet you promptly and take your order asap. The food literally came out in like 5 minutes! AMAZING and it was made so well! The servers did not take the time to really service us with smiles and short conversations but they did an okay job at getting the basics down. Prices: B– Your average-ish Thai food prices. However ~$ 12 for Crab Fried Rice and ~$ 10 for Pad Thai made me sad haha. For the PORTION and Prices, it’s not worth it if you’re going for CHEAP Food! However for the quality, I was satisfied. Bring at least $ 10 when coming here!

Not my first choice if it were to come to Thai food. The place is small but suitable. Getting to the point, I ordered: –Cream cheese won tons $ 5.95 –Mushroom Mountain w/pork $ 9.95 –Green Curry w/chicken $ 9.95 –Brown rice –White rice Cream cheese won tons were good for starters, maybe just a little to loaded with cream cheese, but thats just my opinion. The mushroom mountain was good. I would say the portions were okay. I didnt feel like there was enough pork in the entrée. Green curry was not spicy enough to me although we asked for spicy. The food wasnt hot. It was just warm. rice was nice and fluffy. I wouldnt come back here. It’s not worth the buck. For a better kick of spice, hot off the pot kind of thai, and the right price, I would much rather go to Jazmine Thai.

************************** 529 **************************** Drive by here all the times, but have never tried until I came to get my car wash across the street, we came in for lunch. Simple and small place, family runs, and quick service but not friendly! Limited lunch menu, all under $ 12.95, comes with small salad, tiny bowl of soup which was too sweet for my taste; the chicken curry was just OK. My friend said her Pad Thai was OK. Guess I have to come back here for dinner to see.

Dinner plan #1 fell through due to my bonehead move of not checking the restaurant’s hours of operation. Whoops! Note to self: restaurants in desolate warehouse areas are probably never open for dinner on weekends. Sooo then, on to dinner plan #2. Any cravings? Pad Thai? Okay, so break out iPhone, play with Unilocal app and see what Thai food might be nearby. Blue Mango? Cool, we’re right there. Cute little restaurant with friendly, slightly overworked wait staff. We started off with the yum nua salad and asked for it a little stronger than medium spicy. What we got was extremely tasty, but not at all spicy. Yellow curry with chicken was my favorite dish of the dinner, definitely spicy enough to make me sweat and start to gag just a bit. There’s something I just love about a Thai dish that makes me feel like my eyes are going to pop out of my head! The biggest disappointment of the night was what brought us here in the first place. The pad Thai dish was an extremely small portion, seems like half the plate was devoted to peanuts and sprouts. In the old days, before I branched out into all areas of any given Thai menu, I judged all Thai restaurants on the strength of their Pad Thai. So we didn’t get much, and what we did get was disappointing in flavor. Dinner ended on a strong note with fried bananas and ice cream. I love when the bananas are coated with coconut, bonus! I’d really like to give them three and a half stars, but I’m rounding up here since most of the meal was pretty damn good.

Came here with the boy for a late lunch this Saturday. Even though the place wasn’t even half full we had to wait a good 5 mins since there was only 1 waitress in the whole place! But that gave us some time to look over the menu and we ordered right when we sat down. The place was a bit on the older side but was still ok and colorfully decorated with Thai decorations. Blue table clothes which was the only thing«blue» about this place. Food itself was one of the better Thai foods I had in a while especially around the South Bay. Green Curry– our fav of the meal. Highly recommend! Red Curry– a little bit too creamy; had better Noodles– not much noodles but a whole bunch of veggies? Thai Ice Tea– it was so so 2 bowls of rice– were $ 2 each! I think a bit much dontcha think? Everything put together was about $ 36. Not cheap but not too bad either. Oh and they do this 5% off your tab thing if you pay in cash.

I went here for lunch yesterday and it’s been about a year since I last came here. We got there around 12:30 so it was not too busy, but then people started continuously coming in that the service became slow since there was only 1 server until 1:00. I thought they had a lunch menu, but I didn’t see one. Maybe they only have it for the weekdays? We ordered the Eggplant with Fried Tofu(spiciness #5), Panang Chicken Curry(spiciness #6), and Crab Fried Rice. Portions were perfect for two and everything pretty much came out at the same time which was nice. I thought it was funny that they have a spiciness rating of 1 – 10, which seems to be pretty drastic. The eggplant dish was a lot more spicier than our curry although we asked for the curry to be spicier. Food was good, but definitely not the best Thai food. You can use your Passport card here.

Very average Thai food in a pleasant setting. Props to their good service and cute décor – their glass panes have designs of a variety of pasta, although that really has nothing to do with Thai food. My friend Eltinator wanted to eat here because he had a buy 2 get 1 free entrée thing from working at Apple, which made our lunch quite reasonably priced. We ended up choosing Pad See Ew, Basil Eggplant, and Crab Fried Rice amongst the three of us. Portions were kinda small if you’re American. –Pad See Ew:( ) Yay for an abundance of chicken and broccoli… but this dish was seriously lacking in noodles! And the noodles are the most important part of Pad See Ew. The few noodles that were present were limp and broken. The dish itself was too heavy in flavor and salt. –Basil Eggplant:( ) Very mediocre, and once again, the most important ingredient was scarce! Eggplant! I just didn’t find this dish very enticing, from the tiny salad with yellow sauce to the semi-dry chicken in the entrée. It was also too salty. –Crab Fried Rice:( ). This was definitely(and unanimously) the best dish of the afternoon. The flavor was well controlled. I did, however, find the rice a little mushy. Verdict: Forgettable, but could do worse.

Hmm my last few visits were a bit disappointing. The last time, we ordered the blue mango fried rice and the three flavors fish fillet. The garlic pork on top of the blue mango fried rice was really good, but there was only a little bit of it in the order. The three flavors fish was pretty crap. It wasn’t crunch at all– just somewhat fried. The flavor was pretty sweet too. Came here again very recently. Ordered the pad see ew with prawns and chicken panang level 8 spicy hot with brown rice. the pad see ew was alright, I liked how it had different green veggies in it. A bit greasy/oily though. The chicken panang was disappointing– that level 8 was more like a level 0. There was no heat at all. Fail. Last time I had level 7 and there was good heat. Whats with the inconsistencies !!! Yeah … skip the Three Flavors fish fillet … garlic pork in blue mango fried rice is good, albeit little … wheres the spicy? :(
