I went to see the La Laguna Playground(a.k.a. La Laguna de San Gabriel) in San Gabriel, CA on 11÷3÷2015. My mom used to take me there a lot when I was a kid. Artist Benjamin Dominguez created the play structures in the 1960’s. Located inside Vincent Lugo Park there are 14 play structures including Minnie the Whale and Ozzie the Octopus. A great place for kids of all ages. Plus, I took photos.

This isn’t your ordinary playground. It has slides built into its concrete structures. Definitely not for younger kids, although I did bring my two year old. He enjoys climbing but was hesitant to go down the slides alone. I went down with him which was fun for me! I’m sure rumbustious toddler would love it as long as they are supervised. Overall it’s a nice location with lots of decent shading and seating(tables and benches)

Not for toddlers. This playground is for older kids. All the play«structures» are concrete and requires climbing. Children under 3 should not play here. The surface is sand so prepared to get dirty. This playground is really old. No one in their right mind would build play structures out of concrete these days. The city of San Gabriel should update this playground with a modern structure and poured rubber.

This playground is a local gem. It is also known as Dinosaur Park, which is how I referred to the place as a child. I have my own children now and I spent the better part of the morning here. I was happy to see that the large sea creatures were restored and repainted. The park was also remodeled to include more trees, a nice walking path, and benches. The playground is also a historic landmark with its unique slides and climbing structures(all made of concrete in the shape of whales, giant snail, sea serpents, etc. It really appeals to everyone’s imagination, young and old.

Amazing historical landmark. Fun and interactive for kids of all ages. Can be busy on weekends but great for a summer break picnic!
