El Pavo Bakery is going down hill in quality and taste. Customer service is horrible as well. My mother purchased a flower shaped jello, very pretty but had a bug inside. We purchased a cake for my sons birthday. We get there and his name was spelled wrong.(the guy even double checked that the receipt was spelled right) Yes I think I do know how to spell my sons name. I asked if they can fix it. the woman there just told me «oh the bakers already went home and if we try to fix it it’ll just look ugly». $ 50 Dllrs for a small cake that was dry and misspelled. My husband was pretty upset and called them after I showed him the cake. My husband ask” am I going to get a discount on the cake since, you guys messed it up?” the woman just giggled and said No. Well that really irritated my husband… she giggled No! wow well if you are thinking of purchasing anything there, just don’t. that is my advise to you. save your money and go to a Ralph’s or alberstons and buy your cake there. they have better cakes then el Pavo, and cheaper in price. I bought a cake last year from them it was not bad but this year really disappointed me. smh

I grew up with this bakery, living only a couple blocks away. Best Mexican sweet breads out there! Haven’t frequented their hot bar — got a burrito or two a while back and they were good.

I grew up eating pan dulce from this location and always loved it. Just moved back to the area after having been gone for the last 10 years. I went back to check it out and was glad to see the pan dulce still tastes great. I haven’t tried anything else on their menu but it all looks good.

Was in desperate need to get a birthday cake for my son’s birthday at the last minute I’m scrambling around calling bakeries and no one was able to pull through for what i wanted. I contacted them on a Wednesday night and needed the birthday cake on a Friday afternoon and they totally came through with no hesitation. So happy with results and delicious! everyone was asking for seconds, Got the chocolate cake with strawberries and bananas. The book had alot of variety and i will be back for future cakes.

Their pastries are good but that’s about all their good for, anything else they serve there is bland and expensive. 50 cent for red sauce? I just payed 6.25 for a breakfast burrito, red sauce should be complementary. The staff isn’t that great either, seems like they were getting agitated because I don’t speak Spanish. One of the guys did come outside to wipe down the table because it was wet from the rain. So good pastries and guy coming out to wipe the table down because of the rain, 2 stars. Wouldn’t go back, much better places to eat in the area then this place.

I agree with«Karen N» ‘s review on 12÷28÷13: «Wasted $ 39 on 2 dozen tamales today. They were the worst I have ever had. Dry and not flavorful. So disappointing.» I did exactly the same thing as «Karen N.» but on 9÷19÷15. I got 1 doz pork and 1 doz chicken. Both very dry and not flavorful(both masa and meat). The pork had a decent amount of meat, but the chicken barely had any identifiable shreds to be found. I didn’t try any other hot foods or bakery items.

I grow up going to the Lincoln Heights location, however this is where the baking happens and you are much more likely to find all your favs fresh out of the oven and ready to go, even if you don’t make it there first thing in the morning. I have tried some of the hot food which is a bit pricey but good. This is my go to Mexican bakery, every time i try a different place I find myself wishing I’d just gone to El Pavo!

Le experience: 4⁄5: delicious chilies relleno. The burrito was big with fillings that over ran the wrapper. The wrapper was delicious with proper grilled flavor. Too many burrito come with flavorless wrapper, not here. The refried bean was very good. The rice not as flavorful but I was distracted by the wrapper flavor. The chile relleno was good. The salsa roja was excellent; fresh, tangy, evenly spiced. Again too many burrito place have hogan salsa, but not here. The horchata was just average fountain drink type. Nothing special about the drink here. Atmosphere: 3⁄5: it’s a Togo bakery, fast food counter type place. It’s a bakery that happens to sell hot Togo food also. There’s no seating inside. Outside there’re 2 plastic bench table under an awning on the sidewalk in an industrial part of town. Almost make you feel like street food in TJ. Service: 3⁄5. Fast but it’s a Togo counter. Expense: 5⁄5. under $ 10 and burrito is big enough for 2. I thought I’d save half for later but I was wrong. I finished it and will be in a food coma soon. Return: 5⁄5. yes definitely when I want to go food and try their chile verde.

Si vas a comprar pan al pavo cerciórate bien de los precios porque no le pone precio a los panes y cuando te dan la cuenta es exagerado.

Very nice selection of pan dulce, and it’s nice they have«min» versions of some of the more common ones(like conchas). You don’t see that often. My favorite part of El Pavo, though, is their lunch counter, with a pretty decent range of guisados and other assorted items. Chile verde is pretty good, carne asada is really good, and their huevos con chorizo breakfast burrito is exactly what it should be. I’ve been struggling to find decent Mexican food since moving to San Gabriel and this place is good for tacos and burritos.

Best Pan Dulce around! You can taste they use real ingredients unlike the artificial pre-mixes they use at the supermarkets and most other Mexican bakeries. They have a large variety of delicious breads. This company has been around for over 50 years which is a true testament to their quality. They also offer inexpensive custom cakes. Before ordering a cake in the shape of a car, I visited several different bakeries for pricing and El Pavo was much lower than the rest! Also, I liked their cake better because it wasn’t as sweet as most other cakes I tried. Overall, this place is great!

The bread here is BOMB! First off, it’s a little pricier than typical Mexican bakeries, but this one is well worth it. The quesadillas are beautifully textured, not too oily, and almost bread-like – it was perfect with my morning coffee. The conchas were soft, deliciously flavorful and didn’t leave that oily manteca residue in your mouth afterward. I even ate one on my way home and got crumbs all over my car because I couldn’t help the wonderful smell! Overall a great place!

Sunday has become a tradition with this bakery. i take my sons in for quesadillas and sweet bread. the bread is always great. the prepared food is hit or miss most times. chicharron sometimes is as hard as a rock. but i still get it anyway. sometimes the rice is over salted, and you can tell what days they use imitation butter or substandard ingredients, the taste comes through the bread. very chemical like. reasonable prices and good quality food… most times… but as i said its a tradition for us now so we will always be there Sunday mornings for our food and sweet bread.

Been coming here for years! I never really eat their bakery goods but I come here almost every Wednesday for half off burritos! They have food here unlike other el pavos and it’s really good! On my burrito I get half carnitas/half chorizo with potatoes or veges with ground beef, yum! They hook it up so worth it. =)

My boyfriend brought me here one time we were visiting his family and now I insist we visit every time we’re in the neighborhood. I haven’t had any of their actual food items other than the pan dulce and the horchata but that is enough for me to keep coming back! They have SOMANY varieties! I don’t even know the names for all of them but I know what my favorites look like. I always buy more than I can eat so I can take some back with me to San Diego. Come in the morning when they’re hot and fresh out of the oven!

To think, I live about a mile away from this panaderia and have driven by it on my way to work the last month or so, but have never paid much attention to it until recently. El Pavo is your hole in the wall tiny place with not indoor seating. There are two small tables outside should you choose to eat there. The bakery/restaurant(although calling it a restaurant is a stretch) is located on a small, but busy street. You can park in front of the store or on an adjacent street. Parking in front of the store would mean that you’re blocking their sign. Anyway, this place seems to be a legitimate Mexican bakery in a predominantly Asian community. There is a good panaderia selection that includes pan dulce that you don’t see in grocery stores. They have champurrado, which I haven’t seen in other Mexican restaurants I patronize. Of course, you’ll find aguas frescas, which I like. Aside from the pan dulce, they serve tacos, burritos, tortas, and other dishes as well as menudo, but menudos are sold only on weekends. I will definitely have to try their menudo one of these weekends. They have lengua and chicharron for burritos as well as deep fried pork skin, not like the type that come prepackaged though. Theirs is more the deep fried pork AND skin, but everyone knows it’s the fried skin that makes it good. We ordered two pieces of that, and boy, was it good. It was perfectly fried to a crisp. Probably very unhealthy, but if eaten in moderation, it’s not bad, right? The price was very reasonable as well. Burritos and tortas cost about $ 5 and combos are around $ 7. I’ll have to try their lengua burrito and their menudo soon. We ordered 6 pieces of pan dulce, a champurrado, and the deep fried pork. The total was less than $ 10. Not a bad price, if you ask me. If my expectations are realized, this place may be my regular panaderia/restaurant.

I really like this place food is good, the Mexican baked good are on point, they even have puppies. On this occasion I ordered a coffee & an empanada de calabaza my mom ordered the pupusas. The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars was that one of the ladies was to busy on the phone with her«amor» as she stated the one with all the extreme make up, I asked her if they had coffee & she ignored me & walked to the back to talk on the phone.

Our meals were not that great but the pastries weren’t bad @ all. Carnitas, chicaron, chile verde and carne asada with rice and beans. Carnitas and chicaron: both very dry. I like crispy carnitas but these are just too dry. Carne asada: just okay. Chile verde: probably the best from all but nothing special. The breads looked so yummy. I proceeded to grab a tray and tong but was very surprised. The tongs were nicely alligned but they were touching the wet floor warning sign. Ewwww seriously? That was the first for me. The worker saw my frustration and she asked if I needed anything. She was nice enough to give us different tongs but I was kinda afraid(it was used) that it was also placed @ the same place before. I got concha, toast with butter and sugar thing, corn bread thingy and cochitos. All of them were pretty good. I liked its cantaloupe and pineapple drinks too. 3 stars! Please make sure your tongs do not touch the sign. El Pavo Bakeries is kinda yummylicious!
