Actors and Others for Animals

The women who answer these phones lines are EXTREMELY rude and racist. I called to request for help on behalf of my neighbor who simply couldn’t afford to spay/​neuter her four dogs. One woman got on the phone and started accusing me of breeding MY dogs! I kept telling her that the four dogs all belonged to my NEIGHBOR! Then she put me on hold and another woman got on the phone asking me if my neighbor was MEXICAN. Then, she asked if I could pay for my neighbor’s dogs’ spay/​neuter surgeries. If this organization isn’t interested in helping with spay/​neuter services, then they should not be advertising this on their website. The women who work here are poor representatives of the «actors» who supposedly are behind this organization.
After doing some research, I found there are other reputable organizations that DO offer FREE spay/​neuter services, and not just $ 10 pledges towards a sterilization procedure that can run up to $ 100-​$ 150 for a Shih Tzu sized dogs at any low-​cost vet hospital. I would recommend anyone and everyone to go to their local animal shelter for a list of these resources for spay/​neuter assistance.

Actors and Others are a heaven sent organization. They helped me pay for my dogs emergency PYO surgery! The same day I filled out the online application I received a call back. My dog was in surgery the very next morning. They acted quickly and were very compassionate towards my situation. Beverly was very reassuring and calmed me down because I was freaking out. Thank you Actors and Others for saving my dog «Angels» life!

I called today 11÷5÷15 at 11:30am for assistance in spaying our sixth month old puppy. I have never been treated so rudely by someone on the other end of the line. One might think that this organization would be pleased to help when receiving a call asking about getting a donation from them to spay or neuter an animal given the amount of the over crowded shelters. However, I was treated like I had done something horrible by asking for help. Your organization should be there to help, end of story. We adopted this puppy from a bad situation and are trying to insure her safety, making sure she is up to date on all shots, and being responsible pet owners by getting her spayed. We looked to your organization for help. Not what I expected when I called and simply asked for a small donation.

When I was homeless I tried to get simple dog care for my doggies…
The lady in charge was so mean… rude…and condescending…
The lady in charge didn’t believe me and made no point to hide that…
She even called my vet to double check when I was there last and then got the wrong info then sent me an email berating me and calling me a liar…
I was so hurt and disappointed that I never went further with it…
Shame on you for calling yourselves a «charity» to help people and their animals!
I’m sure there are more people that was treated the same way I was…
Horrible…
If you don’t want to help people and their animals… don’t offer!

Actors and Others for Animals were amazing! We recently had an abundance of stray cats in our neighborhood having kittens. I was able to catch 3 female cats and contacted Actors and Others for Animals to request assistance with getting them spayed. They were so easy to work with and I was able to take the cats to my local vet to be spayed. I still had to pay a portion of the procedure but I feel confident that we won’t have to worry about stray/​feral kitten population getting out of control. Thank you!

Wow what can I say but THANK YOU!!! This organization saved my dogs life. Beverly you have really touched my heart I appreciate you being there for me when no one else could help. Thanks and Goldie is back to normal and great health. We are so blessed and grateful :)

If I could give their telephone customer service zero stars, I would. We adopted a stray dog, not by choice. We rescued him from getting hit by a car in the middle of the road near our home. We couldn’t find his owners and have been unsuccessful in finding him a home. I recently lost two dogs of my own so I just cant send him to the pound. We have horses, children, a home, and my husband is disabled. When I called to request a small voucher towards his neuter and eye surgery (anything will help) the most condescending woman was on the other line. I work full time so we don’t qualify for assistance. She treated me like I was horrible for even asking for help. His cost is $ 500 and I just shelled out $ 900 this morning for my horses hurt leg. I wouldn’t have asked for their help if we didn’t NEED it and I definitely wouldn’t have asked had I known they only help low income families. I really had no idea. My vet had encouraged us to call since we were trying to help this poor dog. The lady I spoke to was extremely rude and accused me of not wanting to take responsibility for this dog we’ve «decided» to keep… Unbelievable. I hung up on her. I have helped so many organizations and I will never support them again.

I called last monday to try and get some help for my dog. She was scheduled to get spayed and unfortunately I couldn’t afford the full amount of $ 180. She is a 70lb pitbull about a year old. The lady I talked to was extremely rude and finally said they would pay $ 50 to help me out. That was perfect and such a big help. I get to the vet and nothing was found, they called and NOTHING. I ended up having to pay the full amount. I understand if I can’t afford my pet I shouldn’t have her but im 8 months pregnant and my income has drastically increased since I cant work as much and I do not have the heart to give her away to just anyone. If they said they would help you would think they actually would and the rude employee needs to go. Horrible customer service

I have a pomeranian, and unfortunately, he is having a very common issue with his knees called patellar luxation. We took him to the Vet because he was limping, and we didnt see any physical injuries. The vet informed us of his condition, and showed us what happens. Basically the knee pops in and out of place, and now he walks very gingerly on any hard surfaces. One knee requires surgery right away, and the other will need it soon. The quote for each surgery was $ 2000. So I called Actors and Others for assistance, and was informed I would need to fill out an application on their website. I did just that. About 1 week later, I got a call from «Beverly», who explained they would be looking into finding another vet for us that would be more reasonable in price. She said she would get back to me in a week. Well it has been 3 weeks now, and no call back. I have left several messages for «Beverly». I feel really bad, because my dog is a very happy dog, and to see him limping and in pain is terrible. I would have hoped this company would have been atleast a little more professional in responding to requests. When you call, they really aren’t willing to pass the information to this «Beverly» person, and just say to call the number they tell you to, which you can only leave a message. The woman was actually rude, and not friendly at all.

Actor and Others is the BEST call I ever made for my sick cat! The woman I spoke to «Beverly» was so compassionate and said they could possibly help financially and told me all about Dr. Martin at All Pets in West Hills and what a great vet he is and that his prices are very low because he is all about helping animals and making it affordable for their owners.
Dr. Martin is very familiar with Actors and Others and told me to let them know what the price is and they should be able to help with the cost. I called and let them know that my cat has just been admitted for surgery and they told me to fill out an application on there website at
… The application (found under Programs) asks how much can you afford to pay of the amount quoted, I put down I can afford to pay $ 50.00 of the $ 175.00 bill. Within an hour after submitting the application I received a call saying they will pay $ 125.00 of my bill and will call Dr. Martins office and pay it now. WOW!!! I was sooo impressed and so happy!!! I just couldn’t believe it. What a blessing!
Being unemployed, Actors and Others gave me help when I had no other place to turn. Thank you soo soo very much!!!

Everyone has a bad day so hopefully this review does not reflect this organization everyday. But I’m obliged to share my experience. The lady that answered the phone did not help and she gave me news I did not want to hear. Fine. I can handle that (we all do everyday). But remember, people who usually call animal organizations like Actors and Others are trying to help an animal so please be nice. That’s all folks!
