Expensive ! Good service however, NOT a very good PIZZA. I would not order a deep dish. May be just order a regular PIZZA. $ 28.95 for a DEEPDISH(too much).

Italian beef sandwich, I have missed you so much! Char burger, I loved you, too. Being from Chicago and living in Orange County means I have elevated Windy City favorites to the highest of pedestals. I have been disappointed time and again after tasting a bastardized OC rendition. This place was surprisingly good. After a long day, I wasn’t up for a whole lot, and I had really low expectations of this place based on the mixed reviews. I wanted deep dish pizza, but knew I could not eat more than a slice, and for once could not convince my husband that pizza was not a good idea. I was able to convince him to split an Italian beef sandwich with mozzarella and a cheddar char burger. WOW! The Italian beef was exactly as I remembered it, and I can’t remember the last time I had such a good burger. There was not a whole lot to the place, but there were comfortable booths, and great people watching out the window. Our waitress was great and didn’t blink at the ratty, XL hoodie my husband lent me to wear on our Saturday night date since I am incapable of packing anything appropriate. I will have to check out the deep dish next time I’m in town. And if it is half as good as the Italian beef and char burger, I may be moving to San Diego.

This place was a pretty cool place. Really neat paintings on the walls. The food was great. We had the chicago style pizza which was very filling and extremely tasty. The bartenders were very friendly and on top of filling the drinks. Here is why I gave this place 3 stars rather than 4 stars… The owner was in here standing behind the bar. This wouldn’t be a problem had he been friendly. The older guy stood there with absolutely no expression on his face and was very akward. He wasn’t friendly to me or my group. Not that he was mean but his personality seemed as though we were troubling him to be eating in his resturant. This guy needs to smile and be more friendly because frankly im afraid to go here again if this guy watches me eat without saying anything.

The double char burger was pretty dry, and was overly charred. The fries were cold when they were delivered to me, however, they were the good kind of fries. You know, fries with a bit of the skin still on. The chocolate cake was fine. Good amount of icing, but the cake itself was maybe a tad bit dry. The Mr. Pibb… I did not get the Mr. Pibb. When I called back, the formerly very nice and cool young guy who took my order got a tad defensive. He said that the Mr. Pibb not getting there was not the restaurant’s fault, so they wouldn’t refund that, because the delivery was by a third party( ). In my mind, yes it is the restaurant’s fault, even if it’s only the delivery guy that screws up. The restaurant should not do business with these guys if they don’t get the order to the recipient correctly and completely. In the end, he consulted with his supervisor, and the refund was allowed. Not a great experience.

I came here with my friend a month or two ago. So this review is a little hazy. But I do remember the pizza. Talk about and overload of pepperoni. Possibly the most that I have seen on one pie. And the fact that it is a deep dish just puts it higher on my list. It’s definitely hard finding a good deep dish in North County. Why can’t we have a place like this up north? We were there during happy hour, so we had a couple of tall ones. Prices were $ 4 if I recall correctly. It was on a Wednesday, so there wasn’t too many people when we were there. If I am in the neighborhood again though, I would stop by for some pizza

My uncle is from Chicago, so I’ve been well with Chicago-style hot dogs and italian beef. Italian Beef and Hot Dogs were pretty legit. As for the pizza… not sure if it was just the kind that we got(sausage and mushroom), but didn’t enjoy it too much. All I could taste was the sausage, which existed as a quarter inch layer completely covering the top of the pizza. It was strange and no bueno.

If you are looking for Chicago deep pizza, look FURTHER into Mission Hills or North Park and head over to Lefty’s Pizzeria… My family is from Chicago and coming here was really disappointing. I left confused if they understood the concept of deep dish pizza. Seriously, I think they had the recipe wrong… Not enough cheese and far too much sausage. The pizza came out looking shallow and just tasted weak. Where was the expected, piled up cheese? Instead there was a really dense, tough and not very tasty layer of sausage? I will say that the bucket of fresh fried potato chips was a good choice, but not worth going out of your way for. Maybe I came on an off-day since other Chicagoans in SD said rated this place really well, but man I was surely disappointed.

Great Ribs & Great Pizza!!! The Garlic Bread is on point too! The staff is extra pleasant, but not overbearing. I came here 2nite with my roomie & some ppl from work. Steve Wolff(the owner) was there & he asks our table, «Did you guys order the ribs?» My roomie asks him, «Are you buying?!» He laughs & says, «No»!! 10 mins lata out comes Steve with ribs for our table, on the house!!! He is a very nice & down to earth guy! Now, the ribs were delicious & I’m not just saying this b/c they were free! Steve says they hickory smoke them for 5 hours(& u can tell!!). The meat falls right off the bone! Y’all thought Phil’s BBQ had some good ribs. TRYWOLFFY’S!!! Yummy! When u’re in the area(or even if you’re not!), stop by ;-)

Ok… this place earned it’s 5th star in my eyes. Came earlier today to celebrate a friends 30th B-day and watch Da Bears do work on the Cowboys. Some highlights -$ 4 All drafts -$ 5 Bloodys –Moscow Mules –Raffle ticket every time you buy a drink –Stellar deep dish pizza with thick chunks of sausage –Chicago sports memorabilia all around –I even like those goofy hats now. They grew on me. –DAAAAAAAAA Bears!

«I ate a Hot Dog Taco and lived to tell about it,» can now be on my tombstone(irony?). But before I die for real, let me give you the scoop. The people at Wolffy’s are very, very pleasant. There are two owners, brothers who seem to be over 60ish, who greet you at the door and come over and check on you during your meal. They are really nice guys, which is why it is so hard to say that the food really is just«ok.» I had the BBQ beef sandwich. Like an 80’s Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was too beefy for my taste. They really needed to add more sauce or take off a couple ounces of meat. «Do it! Do it now!»( ) As an appetizer, I ordered the Hot Dog Tacos simply because of the name. I mean… I like tacos… and I like hot dogs… but somehow, I did not like the marriage of the two! They were a combo of burned hot dogs, hot sauce, a mild pepper and onions in little corn tortillas. I guess the Hot Dog Tacos are like the ugly girl at the bar during last call. At 2:00AM and drunk, they looked like a good idea. The next morning, you wake up, your stomach hurts, and you realize«OH…MY…GOD…this girl has a mustache.» Point being, the Hot Dog Tacos need to either look into waxing, or I need to lower my standards.
I feel bad that I don’t like this place more. It’s cheap(especially for downtown) and everyone is so nice. At the end of the day, I want more of that yum factor… and Wolffy’s just doesn’t have it.

Got a coupon to get a free entrée with a purchase of an entrée and two beverages. It was a good deal since we got rack of ribs and got another one for free. The ribs were good, fall off the bone meat. We got wings, which were good too. The service was good, great with refilling our drinks.

I have to say that this is truly disappointing… I had my sights set on Wolffy’s Place for a while now. The place is pretty cool and in a good location for all of the Padres traffic. It also looks like they offer some specials for happy hour and pre-game. Those specials better be good — because the food is not… Wolffy’s Original Hot Dog Taco — I am glad that these were only $ 3.50. Anything more would be a crime… 3 small soft tortillas with a few chopped up pieces of a hot dog, lettuce, onions, cheese and a pepper covered in what tastes like Pace Picante sauce you can buy at the grocery store. Literally, 2 bites and you’re done. The Italian Beef sandwich — The beef was dry and the green peppers were… well… they were burned. I pulled most of them off the sandwich. All I could taste were burned peppers all the way home. The homemade chips were drenched in oil or grease or whatever… The Sliders — These were okay. The meat was overcooked but overall decent little burgers. A hint — ask for light mustard… these things had a thick layer on the bottom — a bit much… I think Wolffy’s has a 4 out of 5 rating — I just don’t see it. Maybe a bad day?

The city of Chicago should look into filing a lawsuit against Wolffys for claiming that their pizza is «Chicago Style». It’s not. I’m no lawyer but I believe that’s slander or libel or defamation of character or whatever the industry term for lying is. With that said, the food isn’t bad. The hot dogs are decent enough, the waitresses wear Capone costumes, the Chicago décor is enough to to illicit feelings of Midwest nostalgia. Until someone actually introduces Chicago style(and caliber) pizza to San Diego, places like Wolffys will continue to incorrectly throw that term around. How hard can it be people?

I have only been here twice. Once during opening(when I received a free pizza for living in the neighborhood) and the other time to have a chicago style hot dog. I haven’t had the deep dish or the ribs. The Chicago style hot diggity dog was really good. The free pizza was only for the thin crust version(WTF). It was good but since it was free I was not my typical« Unilocaler» self. I did snap a picture before devouring it which I have uploaded to their gallery. I have had the original Chicago style pizza(Giordano’s) and hot dog(Portillo’s) while visiting ChiTown last year. The hot dog was comparable. This place is good but can someone tell me how the deep dish is???

I had really high hopes for Wolffy’s but felt a little let down after visiting here with my Groupon for the first time yesterday. None of the food was bad, but I certainly wasn’t wow-ed by anything either. I like the place — it definitely has character, and it opens up to the outside, which is really nice on a sunny San Diego Saturday. The servers were all pretty nice, but the food was *incredibly* slow. We waited about half an hour before we got our appetizers, and our food came out shortly thereafter. We were all so hungry at that point that we barely ate the appetizers because we were too busy horking down our real food. Not sure why it took so long, since everyone just got hot dogs, no deep dish pizzas or anything. In any case, I tried the Hot Dog Taco, since that was my main mission for the trip, and those were really quite tasty, I must say. The shell had an incredibly satisfying crunch, and the cut up firedog inside was yum. We got a basket of onion rings(good, not the best; they look like real funyuns, random) and a plate of chili cheese fries, which were pretty tasty. The rest of the table got some variation of hot dog, and I’ve been told they were tasty, but not quite worth the trip downtown, as DiCrescenzo’s Chicago on a Bun is closer and tastes pretty much the same. I got the Chicken Parmesan sandwich, and it was good, but also nothing to write home about. I must say though, the homemade chips are super yum! :) The bill also took forever to resolve, and then there was a mixup, and it was a bit of a fiasco. Overall, I’d say we spent about 30 minutes eating and 45min-1hr waiting for stuff — a frustrating experience when your stomach is about to eat itself from hunger. Anyway, probably won’t go back unless I happen to be in the area and craving a hot dog, but I am a little enticed by the all you can eat wings night.

Still 3 stars but I had to let you all know what’s up! Okay, I’m not a hot dog eater. I haven’t had a hot dog since I was probably 5 or 6. They just were never my thing. HOWEVER… For some reason in the last 3 weeks I have been CRAVING a Chili Covered Hot Dog!(So strange and totally off the charts weird for me, but I just couldn’t help myself.) So my BF calls me while he’s at Wolffy’s and says come down here and eat a hot dog so you’ll shut up about it already! I’m apprehensive but I give in and decide to head on down. I order the Jumbo Dog with chili, cheese, & white onion… It’s all I could think about for 3 weeks so my taste buds were salavating as I awaited it’s arrival. That dog was JUMBO it was as round as a 50 cent piece I swear! :) Nervously I take my first bite(using a fork and a knife because it was so smothered in chili when I tried picking it up it was just impossible) the dog is good, the chili is good, the bun is okay… For my first hot dog in 15 years it was definitely interesting. It didn’t hit the spot and cure the craving, but it was definitely a start for me. I mean, it was REALLY a good hot dog(My BF said it was AWESOME) I just think I’m looking for something else. I’m really wanting a dog that isn’t so thick with a bun that is a bit more substantial than the one at Wolffy’s also I wanted chunkier chili and more cheese and onions than they supplied. So I’m still looking to fulfill my hankering for a good Chili Dog, but Wolffy’s had a pretty good one(just not my style I guess). The fries there are soooo awesome though! This place has a lot to offer and I’m glad it’s right down the road for me… I mean, those ribs(I’m still dreaming about them!)

I can’t give it a five, but it probably is. Reason: I have only tried the hotdog and fries. Great deal for the volume of food. Excellent filtered water and clear ice. Cute servers for the most part, and really nice staff. Best chicago dog in San Diego. Best Fries in SD also. Lunch was busy but not packed. Good feel to this place. Seriously go try it out. It will only set you back $ 6.

Came here last night and this is what I remember(besides meeting some nice people from Chicago) –Panty dropping Mule in a cute copper mug($ 7) –Fall off the bone ribs deliciousness –Surprisingly good mini hotdog tacos –the Super Dog was really big and had a nice snap to it –pretty and friendly servers wearing fedoras –an owner(Wolffy) who socializes with his customers and makes you feel right at home I’m reserving the 4th star for my next visit– definitely worth checking out :)

I have confirmed that I really don’t like Chicago style pizza. I don’t like Lefty’s and I don’t like the pizza I ate while actually in Chicago. So I guess it’s official. I went to Wolffy’s because I bought a certificate on and had a visitor who wanted to try Chicago style pizza for the first time. First, we got chili fries which were ok. I thought the chili tasted like Hormel chili, but it wasn’t bad.(I made a mental note about how much better carne aside fries are than chili fries.) I also tried the«fire dog» which is apparently a Chicago style hot dog but spicier. The dog has onions, a pickle, «sport peppers», celery salt, mustard, relish, tomato(and maybe other stuff I forgot) on a poppy seed bun. It was pretty good, for a hot dog. It came with fresh potato chips that were yummy. Then the pizza came out and me and my bf did not like it. It was super salty, tomatoey… just… not good. I always say«there is no such thing as terrible pizza» but I really didn’t want to eat this. Our visitor who wanted to try Chicago pizza for the first time liked it though, which is good because he can eat the leftovers for the rest of the week.(but then again he also loves Dominos). Out waitress was really nice and there were several TVs in the restaurant, perhaps making this a good place to watch a game. I also thought prices were really reasonable, esp for the downtown area. If you eat here, I guess you are expecting greasy and heavy comfort foods, which is fine if you are in the mood for that. This isn’t my cup of tea, but maybe if you like Chicago style pizza, you will like it. Go Yankees! ha.

Chicago food and Chicago sports… YAY!!! I just moved here about a month ago and was missing all things Chicago. Then I see that this place is right in my hood… it was meant to be. The Italian beef is AWESOME. Just as good as Portillo’s, not quite as good as Big Al’s, but certainly cheaper than ordering either of them online! My friends tried both the thin and deep dish pizza, which they said was ok. They also played the Bears game yesterday on ALL of their tv’s, well, except until the end when the Bears were sucking ass. In any case, I will definitely be back here even tho at one point our waitress disappeared. The owner’s brother had pitched in to help and was SO apologetic and friendly that it all made up for it. Great place and reasonable prices.
