I am a teacher at a high school. I was there this weekend, when I noticed one of my 14 year old freshmen at the bar. Taking shots and having a great time. When I told the bouncer about it, they ignored me and said it was none of my business. I then told the gentlemen who was buying her drinks to stop buying her drinks, that she was 14 years old. He got defensive. We argued. The security guard who I told earlier kicked me out of the bar. Are you kidding me???

Date of visit: 1÷13÷2016 I came here with Issac for Open Oscillator Night, which was fantastic. I opted to get water only since I am trying to reduce the amount of alcohol I consume, which the bartender was nice enough to accommodate. The bar here is cash only and there’s a sign on the door that indicates this. However, it was one of many signs on the door and easily missed if you don’t stop to read the door. This bar is nothing like an upscale, modern bar. Rather, it’s a low key bar with a great crowd of people that tends to be on the more eclectic side of life. I really liked the Open Oscillator Night idea as it really opens electronic music to the community — I’ve never experienced anything like this at a «typical» bar. Overall, this is a great bar to go to if you’re looking for something low key and serves alcohol. There’s no food here, but their website indicates that there are food trucks that stop by on Fridays.

12 ounce«pint» glasses are a ripoff and a deal breaker at $ 6. Sorry. Biggest issue with that is that people probably assume they’re getting a proper 16oz pint at those prices. It’s a casual friendly bar with good bartenders who I would venture to bet are a bit ashamed by cheap ass owners pulling this nonsense to patrons. For shame

My favorite local bar. I am lucky enough to get to play records here once in a while. Great mix if people and always fun events going on all the time. The staff is top shelf. Foods trucks rotate all the time so there is always tasty food just out the door!

It’s a great prices and the authentic 80s jukebox isn’t enough to bring you in how about the fact that this place is dog friendly? Come to the whistle stop

DJ actually has a cart with LPs, so its old school, prehistoric. Jimmy the bar tender is an Anti-Asian, Anti-hispanic homophobic moron. Other than that, its a typical dumpster dive of a bar. Beer selection is lame, including canned tecate and modern times. But… Since its a cash only, tax-evading, no register tape cash cow, I will just refer it to a firend who works for the IRS and let him check it out.

This was a Wonderful bar until JIMMY the prejudice bartender threw my Asian friend out after a single drink. He blocked her in the doorway and smiled as he told her she couldn’t come back in, made a big performance of it for the other customers. Ruined a family celebration, this guy is incredibly rude and makes the whistle stop look bad. Such a shame.

My friends and I have had so much fun on booty basement nights, plan to come early or wait in a very long line after 11pm. My primary complaint is how crowded and hot it can get but that’s because it’s popular. I’ve never been on non booty basement nights but friends who have been for various shows say good things, it’s just a different type of crowd. Overall a fun place to go when you are going out.

Such a pleasant place. Super friendly barkeep and regulars. Good pours. Nice selection of beers, but also full bar. Nice, long bar I should add. But also very roomy. If I lived near, I’d be a regular. However I’m not near, but will still journey from time to time because I live the vibe.

Great music! Customer services was of the best I’ve ever had! From security, to bartenders. Everyone was awesome. Cheap drinks and awesome vibes. The only reason I’m not giving this place 5-stars, is because it gets REALLY crowded, like no place to dance, can’t walk anywhere without spilling your drink, and well, it’s CASHONLY. They do have an ATM, but I don’t like paying extra to use my own money. To all of this, it’s a good place to hang out, and I can see why people would like it, but it’s not my type of hang out.

Went out for a girls night to check out Booty Basement(just by the name our group should have realized how we as females would be demeaned) Dimitri the dj flipped off And called my friend a bitch after a simple song request. This is a dj that is representing the bar and should be removed from his position as he is disgracing patrons and losing patience after one simple request. He could have simply said«I’m sorry we can’t play that song this evening» instead he cussed her out calling her a bitch on the microphone for everyone to hear. He is not professional and is not someone that should be representing your establishment. Before that our group was harassed by a sloppy drunk boy(I say boy as he surely can’t be a man as I know men to be proper and polite individuals that would respect when a woman or any human being says no. A man would know that No means stop what you are doing right away.) So this boy didn’t stop instead had further conflict with me and another friend as We stepped in to protect our friend. Booty basement is full of sleazebags that don’t respect women. My friends and I avoid going out in downtown San Diego to avoid the creepy and rude boys that we witnessed last night. Ever since Last night whistle stop had been a place that we felt we could have a good time without worrying about boys attacking us. But as long as Booty Basement is around I feel that will be untrue. Whistle Stop you are giving South Park a bad name. There was a professional and courteous employee that I would like to mention, a security guard named William he was very apologetic and agreed about the unprofessionalism of the dj. As other employees dismissed he took a stance and made sure our grievances were heard. I want to thank him for taking a stance it means a lot when at least one employee can make us feel heard and protected as a security guard should do. He also protected us at the end of the night when we were waiting for our ride to arrive. The boy that harassed us earlier came up to our group. I asked him more than 5 times to leave and that we did not want to speak with him. Once again he ignored me and kept pursuing. My friend asked for Williams help and he got rid of him right away. It takes one person to do their job right for us to feel safe and protected. Thank you William! If there were more men like William at Booty Basement that party would be awesome!

Very divey, except for all of a sudden during Booty Basement or Brit Pop night, you get a completely different crowd rolling in. It sometimes gets a little PB-esque. Pretty inconsistent vibe here though, I’ve had some awesome nights, and some really, really terrible nights. Cash only is lame, but drinks are pretty cheap. All in all very hit or miss. They have an outdoor smoking patio area which personally I don’t care for, but at a dive bar, its not totally out of place.

Girls night out Saturday for Booty Bassment.(Booty Bassment one week, 80’s vs 90’s the next week.) We were not disappointed! Very casual dress, perfect if you aren’t in the mood to get dressed up. No cover before 9pm & they start charging RIGHT at 9, so get in on time. A very wide range of folks hanging out at this CASHONLY dive bar. $ 5 drafts, full bar but no food. They did make up for it by having a food truck right outside. The down side to that was the crowd it created right at the entrance. Be prepared to sweat, the dance floor is a sweat box. They have a few tables with bar stools to rest your feet. Good luck with parking, street only and there are a lot of people in the area. The cash only thing didn’t really bother me ~ Out of money? Guess I’m done drinking for the night! lol!

I came here for my friend’s birthday about a month ago for their Booty Basement event. There was a $ 5 cover and you can pay only in cash for the drinks inside as well. Got here around 9:30−10pm and there was no line. The bartenders were very nice, but the drinks were all right. The dance floor is tiny, and you literally can’t hear anything each other are saying. They have a little place outside, connected to the bar, where you can smoke. You can’t go outside and come back in right away– you have to wait in line. That was pretty annoying because you literally can’t breathe inside because there’s too many people. The music was not too bad, but not too good. The crowd is more on the early 30’s to early 40’s from what I saw. It was chill– I would give it another try.

I went here last week for my friend’s birthday. We went on a Saturday night for Booty Basement. I was excited to go since it’s hard to find a club that plays R&B and rap throwbacks. If you go before 10pm it’s only $ 5 cover charge. The crowd seemed like 30 year olds and up. It’s super casual. People dressed like they just came from running errands at the grocery store. People were seriously dgaf about what they looked like. The songs they played were mainly 80s/90s rap songs. I was hoping for more early 2000s throwbacks. Not bad though, still better music than most places. The nice part about the dance floor is that they have AC! Felt hella good blowing my hair haha The dance floor is kinda small though so there’s not a lot of room to really dance :/

For what it is… this place is awesome! If you love dark and dingy dive bar then this place is amazing. Tis a CASHONLY sort of place so come with cash in hand or pay their ATM Fee which I am sure is far more expensive than your bank. They only have one pool table which I’ve never had a problem getting to playing on. People are super laid back so if you want next game don’t sweat it! Lots of high top seating and every time we go its weird movie and funky music night… I don’t know if that’s a happy coincidence or if that happens every night… or if that’s even what that night would be called. But it weird and I totally dig it! The beer is fairly priced and they have the Duchesse de Bourgogne beer I’m totally obsessed with right meow… MMMmmmmm Sours *drool* If you see me there feel free to buy me one ;) or I can just beat you in a game of pool for it!

Ok, this bar is great. …if you are 22 and enjoy loud, crowded, and dark bars. Guess I’m getting too old for that shit because I didn’t enjoy this bar at all. Barely anywhere to sit, and too loud to talk to your friends. I wish I was 22 again.

When I recently learned from my 25-year old godsister that there’s a place in San Diego that plays good hip hop on certain Saturdays, I *had* to check it out for myself. My clubbing days are a thing of the past now that I’m happily married and looking forward to the next chapter in my life, but I still enjoy a good night out with friends every now and then. That is how I came across Booty Bassment at Whistle Stop Bar last Saturday. It was the perfect time to go, it was Labor Day weekend, my friends were down to check it out with me and that was all to it. We arrived before a long line formed to get in(which eventually existed later in the evening) and fortunately for us, there was no line at all. We showed the bouncer our ID’s, paid the five dollar cover and got a «good job» stamp on my wrist. The bar was already crowded three deep to get a drink, but I didn’t care since I was already two drinks in thanks to the lovely dinner we had down the street. Service was great from our particular bartender the rest of the evening, so no complaints. Overall, if you’re going to check out Booty Bassment, wear comfortable clothes, be ready to sweat like a pig and have fun! Side note: after reading about Booty Bassment online, it turns out they also do this in San Francisco and Portland. My hubby and I are going to Portland this weekend and there happens to be a Booty Bassment up there the night we arrive… hmmmm…might have to check it out so I can compare Booty Bassment notes among the two, lol! Side note #2: CASHONLY, remember to make a trip to the ATM before you make your way here!
