Somewhat confused at this place… the major major plus is that it’s dog friendly… and Misty was allowed to roam around the(very small) vicinity. The menu, however, is really limiting, and for someone trying to eat moderately healthy, it was a challenge. That being said, their caprese salad was really good! I would come back, but I’m not dying to return.

Pros: — date night ambiance — trendy décor — friendly service — HH5−7pm daily($ 2 off drinks and app) — take reservations ahead of time so call! Cons: — parking — small so can get crowded Overall: 4 stars. Such a cute place to go for a date night. What makes it even more wonderful is the service you get after a long day at the office. Haven’t tried their food — have only been here for there drinks of which they make the best mango mojito! Perfect little place in hillcrest!

Very good experience. Seems to be a 2 man operation but it worked with minor glitches. Had the ahi tuna tartare and it was fine with the nice heart shaped bread. Cocktails are on the high price but i had 2 delicious mango mojitos and I was happy. It is a small space but one of my friends wanted her gathering here and it worked for everybody. Once the place got crowded, the communication between you and the bartender becomes harder to hear. Overall I might try them again when there are specials or Happy Hour. Nice to support small local businesses in my area.

They have Squid Infused Vodka. Vodka! Infused with SQUID! Whaaaaaaatttt? I’ve only been here for drinks, which have always been delicious and inexpensive with their various drink specials. My complaints are(1) it can get a bit cramped and(2) the owner is also usually the only bartender, server, and cook, which can obviously lead to slow service. PROTIP: For a really fun way to kill yourself, come here on a Thursday night when it’s $ 2 for any shot and try to do a shot of each of their many infused vodkas!

They have a small drink selection however they make the best mango mojito I’ve every tasted. I love the dried pieces of mango on top of your drink. The owner and bartender is super friendly. Overall this place is a good place to chill at while you are waiting for dinner reservations or a good place to hang out and converse after dinner.

5-star for Happy Hour Love this tiny bar with a cool personality. Sexy décor, sexy service, sexy infused vodkas(even squid flavor), deelish food(appetizers, salads & mains), sexy electronica pumping in the background. Makes me feel like I’m right back in the Europe I know and love. WHEN — 5 – 7 pm, 7 days/week FOOD — Generous selection of delicious apps; $ 2 off during HH DRINKS — $ 2 off drinks AMBIANCE — Indoor with tables & small bar + tiny patio overlooking Fifth. Occasional DJ on a weekend night. The perfect crowd… mixed straight/gay, 30s/40s/50s. Definitely a neighborhood feel. LOVE! SERVICE — Good(with a bonus sexy French accent) Bottom line — One of my favorite places. I’ll definitely come here often, even by myself. Excellent place for a(sexy) date!

Instant fan of this place! First of all, I have a thing for wine bars so I was pretty picky to begin with. Looking up this place via Unilocal I saw how small it was and almost went elsewhere. but sure glad I didn’t!!! Called ahead and made a reservation for my hot date and I. got seated in the corner of the place and just loved the all around décor/vibe/music scene this place has. Ordered the famed Mango Mojitios and got the Caprese and Flat bread as well. Washed the food down with some prime Pinot Noir from Cali(that owner recommended) and got tanked! Everything here was top notch and the owner/bartender is one talented bartender with his liquor creations! You must try this place and I will one day claim the«duke» title here. one day!!!

Very cute little date spot! A friend suggested this charming place knowing I was a «wino». The owner was very welcoming and definitely knew his wine. We went there on a Tuesday night and it was pretty much empty, which I thought was very lucky since I heard this spot gets crowded on the weekend! We ordered a few appetizers and a couple bottles of french wine — one from Cotes Du Rhone and one from Chateauneuf du Pape, my favourite wine regions in France. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Great service, great ambiance, great food, and, most importantly, great wine!

After sipping some martinis and eating pizza across the street, we ended up here for a few more drinks. Voyou is small, vibey and a bit out of this world. There is a DJ crammed in the corner and bottles of infused vodka line the wall. We aren’t talking flavors like peach, strawberry or anything run of the mill here — they’re pushing the limits! Want a beef jerky martini? Go for it. How about a shot of squid vodka? Dive in. Care for a gummy bear and tonic? It’s all yours. «Pick your poison» has never been more applicable. Seriously though, there must be 25 bottles of the oddest creations all ripe for the tasting. Labeled with a piece of tape and served with a heavy hand you are sure to find something that tickles you here. We didn’t try the food since we loaded up before walking in, but both the burger and the macaroni and cheese looked really good and were priced right. The crowd was fun and outgoing and it is easy to see that they have built a fine cast of characters as regulars here. A perfect addition to the eclectic neighborhood to say the least.

Warning: Do NOT park in the 3 small spaces behind the building! It is NOT Voyou parking. There is an angry girl waiting with a tow truck man, apparently I took her spot and it wasn’t the first time someone has done it. Luckily I showed up just in the nick of time and drove off before I got towed :) On a lighter note, the bar is adorable. Small and very modern euro feel. They have a wall of house infused flavored vodkas in glass containers with hand written labels. It looks like a science experiment but I tasted the apricot one and it was surprisingly good. They have a good happy hour too, $ 2 off glasses of wine. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a few glasses of the chardonnay which was French and not too oaky. Great place, I’ll be back and next time I’ll be sure to park legally ;)

Walking into Voyou was like being transported into a strange bar on the outskirts of some European city. That’s how my buddy put it at least, and I totally agreed. Having come from dinner we didn’t try the food. Just had a few beers and rubbed elbows with some regulars. A cool touch that stood out for me were the snacks in mason jars. Just strewed across the bar for anyone to open up and snack on as they chat it up. A price list lets you know how much each jar is. Granted, we were already a bit under the influence of dinner drinks, so it took us a few more to notice the bottles above the bar. Rows of bottles filled with vodka infused with other flavors. A couple of the crazier choices were Squid or Beef Jerky. Strange stuff that some poor sap would get to try only after loosing a bet. We went with the Gummy Bear shot and a Cherry Shot. Both were good, but probably part of the reason the rest of the night was a bit of a blur. Will have to try the food next time because the menu looked tasty.

After a terrible week I was in dire need of some cocktails, but my boyfriend wanted wine. With some Unilocal help, I stumbled upon Voyou. I really liked this tiny intimate little bar. The décor was simple and I thought very chic. The lighting and ambiance were just perfect for a little date and the cocktail list was deliciously varied — just what the doctor ordered. When the night was all said and done I had a mango mojito, grapefruit margarita, and apricotini. All were fantastic and the owner, he told me to call him Frenchy lol, was very generous with his alcohol pours. Not to mention when I had initially ordered the mojito, Frenchy told me he might not have enough fresh mint and asked the woman to run across the street and get some for him — now that’s taking care of your customer! My boyfriend got a glass of the pinot noir and said he really enjoyed it as well. Food was simple and delicious. I thought it paired well with the drink selections. We had two orders of the caprese. I wasn’t crazy about the mozzarella used but the balsamic reduction and oil drizzle were really tasty. Boyfriend got the Brat sandwich and it was gone before I could even snag a bite. He said it was good so I’ll take his word for it. I decided to have a cheat meal and indulge in the house mac ‘n cheese. The boyfriend thought it was too simple and bland, but I liked it. The pasta on the edges were overdone but the middle part of the dish was deliciously cheesy and al dente. The thyme was very very subtle. Friendly service, awesome drinks, and for a Friday evening(we were there from 5−7ish) surprisingly empty. A nice place to chat with a date or catch up with friends. Parking is a pain as usual in this neck of the woods.

A friend was visiting San Diego and we had gone to Starlite for dinner but it was too packed and loud. So we wanted to go somewhere to catch up without straining to hear each other over loud music. Voyou is really interesting. I would say it is homey — except that they were playing techno music and I don’t listen to techno at home — so maybe comfortable is a better word for it. A hip living room with lots of wine. Our french waiter was very nice, didn’t rush us at all even though we were sitting there for two hours with our one bottle of pinot. :)

After strolling around Hillcrest, I decided to Unilocal a place with happy hour. This came up on the first of the list and surprisingly, it was Happy Hour all night on Tuesdays. YES! The place is very small, but I love the ambiance. Minus one star because they advertise«late night kitchen» on the website, but when we were trying to order appetizers, the French bartender said the kitchen was closed. I was fairly disappointed because of the aroma from the food of the people next to us had already made my tummy quiver.

I cannot express how much I LoVe this place! It’s my all time favorite spot to go to for either a mellow glass of wine, catching up with friends or a night out of good wine, food and ambience. The inside feels like a European livinging room. Modern yet cozy. The owners are both gems and super sweet and attentive. I love that they have a dj playing on Friday and some Saturday’s, which is a nice touch and adds to the ambience without feeling like a club inside. Prices are very reasonable, and they have great specials every day from happy hour to nightly specials. Cannot think of one thing there is to not LoVe about Voyou!!!

This wine bar is real small and cozy. It is a little tough to find parking… I really liked how the server was French and I had a hard time understanding him but he was able to recommend a lot of good wines from France. Food he recommended was great too. We got a meat and cheese plate and I ended up being too full to finish my entrée. I would definitely go back!

i love this place! it’s a cute tiny wine bar, good to seat maybe 20 people at most. the décor is super cute, hardwood floors with white leather cubed seats and tables that are at a comfortable height. it’s very chill! the intimacy you have in this place is unbelievable. because it’s small and quaint, its really easy to meet other people. and everyone here is super friendly! my girlfriend and i got a bottle of wine(Camelot) for $ 30. we had the ham and cheese appetizer — which was YUMMY! it reminded me of the french pastries that are buttered to perfection, not too much or too little, but just right. and the asparagus tart(which wasn’t too tart at all — believe me I’m not a ‘tart’ person, and i liked it!). we also shared an Angus burger which was yummy too. this super charming place is one you definitely have to try! the wine selection is small, but i prefer it that way so it doesn’t get too overwhelming. AND! the french ‘waiter/owner/only person working’ could talk and say anything to me all day! everytime he stopped by our table i would mention random things just to keep him talking, i LOVE his accent!

Voyou saved me on a Friday afternoon when my sister was desperate for a drink after picking me up from the airport. It was before 5 so all the usual suspects weren’t open yet. As we walked by, we saw the sign for Happy Hour — $ 5 wine/cheese/charcuterie. There is no resisting such a deal so we strolled in and were greeted by the charming Frenchies that own Voyou. They were super charming and helpful — we ordered a the HH special cheese and charcuterie, my sister had a glass of syrah and i had a Royal Kir. The portion of the special plates were perfect — three tastes each of cheese and charcuterie. I did not ask for an explanation of what was on the plates but one of the cheeses was one that I really like — a boucheron. That in itself was worth the $ 5 and the other 2 cheeses were also enjoyable. The charcuterie was proscuitto, a salumi and possibly sopressata or something of the sort. Also all good. I was definitely charmed by the atmosphere and the simple, yet tasteful food and wine. Definitely gonna put this on my list for early happy hour spots.

Why hello there Voyou… You’re definitely the sexiest new biz to open up in the neighborhood! I dropped by the all-new Voyou for a late light lunch(and day-drinking, natch) after running a pile of errands. Apparently the grand opening is in progress as I type these words, but I can tell already that this place is going to enter my regular rotation. Did I mention that Voyou is sexy? The cozy cottage-like exterior belies the sleek, modern, and loungy interior, which features lots of blacks and whites. The entire staff appears to have been brought over from France, and they’re seriously knowledgeable about the libations served here(and gorgeous to boot). For lunch, I had the avocado and cucumber soup. The soup was perfect in every way. Light, refreshing, packed with flavor, with just a hint of spiciness. The nectar of the gods, maybe? It was served with a couple slices of the most intensely flavorful rosemary bread that I’ve ever tasted. Please Voyou — I need to know the name of your baker, because I am crushin’ already. I washed down the soup with a French chardonnay, which was the ideal accompaniment. The server was kind enough to provide a complimentary amuse-bouche, consisting of salmon tartare on toast. I adored this little bite, especially since I’m a big salmon fan. The salmon was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. Oh, Voyou — such a tease! I’ll be back shortly to see what else you have to offer.
