I was disappointed to find out that this place had closed! I had never stopped in for the coffee piece of the location, but really enjoyed their popcorn and wine! I was introduced to Impulse Riesling upon my visit here, and have not been able to find the brand since. It’s probably one of my favorites. Service was also great during the Meet-up my dad hosted.

With 3 tips telling you the restaurant is closed why hasn’t the Unilocal page been updated? Get it together Unilocal,I as well as lost likely a few others wasted parking money to go this joint that’s been closed for 2 months

My thoughts on this place are full of exclamations! The espresso drinks are worth the trip! I love that most the brunch entrees are less than $ 10! F** other places that make you pay $ 15+ for normal plates of breakfast! The print design of their menu is a graphical marvel! Cute guys on laptops here! Maybe they’re only cute from afar?! The live music band is a wonderful touch! Did I mention the coffee is great?!!

I was down from Orange County for business in San Diego and I found Village 631 on Unilocal.First off, they serve Café Virtuoso coffee which is really good. The lattes I had were delicious and well prepared. I probably visited Village 631 four or five times and I have to say the customer service was fairly poor. I really wanted to write only good things about this place because it has a lot of potential, but on two occasions when I was there the staff completely forgot my order. The first time I ordered a latte and I had to remind them to make it. The second time I ordered a lemon bar and latte and they completely forgot the lemon bar. If it had been busy, I could understand, but the staff were chatting away. Unfortunately, there really isn’t another coffee shop nearby. If they could put in a little more time training their staff, I think this place could be amazing.

Needs competition! I only go here because it’s one of the very few, if not only, cafes that is walking distance from work and has wifi so I can get a quick coffee on my 30 min break and send some emails; otherwise I wouldn’t continue to go here. To say it nicely, this place could — and should — be much friendlier and customer service-oriented. Just a few quick examples: First, don’t expect to be greeted when you walk up to the counter. Usually someone is right there making coffee but ignoring you. I think that a quick ‘hi, we’ll be right w/you’ type of acknowledgement would be appreciated by most guests. On another instance, when I went up to the counter to ask for more hot water, I was told that they only give water refills once. I think that’s fine — if you’re busy and have a lot of customers to tend to — but it was quiet in there and I think guests should be able to ask for water without it being regarded as such a hassle. Also, the internet is just for customers, which again is fine, but if you come in and ask for the password, they tell you that before you even have a chance to ask for a menu or order anything. So all in all, it’s a cute place and with the right people in there, I think it would excel. In the meantime, it wouldn’t hurt to brush up on customer service/people skills! I love the mimosas, love that you can bring dogs in, and the food is good yet definitely on the pricier end(again, this place needs competition!).

Dude, my friends and I walked around Downtown San Diego scouting out a place for brunch and decided on here based on its ambiance. We love outdoor seating so we were sold on the whole aspect of the front windows basically sliding away or popping out. Anyhow, we ordered the eggs benedict. Holy cow. Dude, without a doubt that’s the best eggs benedict I’ve had a in a long time! I don’t remember the exact name of it but it had some sort of turkey. Dang, that was tasty!

Came here for brunch on my final morning in San Diego. It could not have been more perfect! We snagged the last table of the outdoor seating on a perfect Sunday afternoon(75 and not a cloud in the sky). Our waiter was so friendly and quickly came to take our drink order. I had a bloody mary while my friends split a pitcher(read: carafe) of mimosas. The bloody mary came with an assortment of pickled vegetables and fruits(celery, strawberry, asparagus, carrot, and jicama) all pickled in house. It was delicious! Now for the food, I was having a light brunch so I went with the house muesli. It was so good with an assortment of dried fruits and nuts mixed with the muesli and served with a side of milk and maple syrup! My friends each got the California benedict and it looked delicious. The eggs were perfectly poached and the they each commented on how delicious the sliced turkey and avocado went with the rest of the dish. To top it all off, there was live music playing the entire time! I think we need to bring this trend of laid back live music during brunch to DC!

I have been in here several times since I have moved downtown. At first I had a few rough experiences and kinda stopped going for a little while. I since have it another try and it’s an awesome hang out. My last trip was on the 4th of July for a little coffee and breakfast. The lady behind the counter(I never get her name, next time I will) and I were laughing and laughing and laughing some more about the music. Which carried over to the lady who made my drink. It totally made my day! As far as the coffee and breakfast, absolutely delicious! The reason I stopped going was a certain person and their pretentious attitude. I feel as if that has changed and even with that individual himself. I’m glad I waited to write my review. Be back soon!

The best coffee in East Village and very friendly service too. It is a very spacious place decorated with sofas of happy colors. I just to go there to draw in my sketchbook that I always carry with me and sit there and illustrate people passing by or the guys changing the murals accross the street with new ads from time to time. The ambiance is very mellow, cool music, perfect also to read a book. I haven’t had brunch there yet, best time for me is Saturdays afternoon when there are not that many people and can be really quiet.

If you’re coming in the morning hours on the weekend and want to sit down to get some work done, plan on buying breakfast. I essentially was asked to leave by the manager for sitting down at a table having only ordered coffee. Café is a bit of a misnomer. I understand they need to turn a profit here and don’t want single parties hogging tables, but I was completely blindsided by this«rule.» There were at least 10 other tables unoccupied. It certainly made me feel like I wasn’t wanted. The manager let me know they’d «been doing this for the last 5 months.» Well sorry sir for not being privy to your rules. I’d suggest a limited area for guests who wish to work can do so or having a hostess up front greet patrons and explain the rules. The food is decent and they’re pet friendly but the service is slow and that manager doesn’t understand customer service. I’ll have to stick with Starbucks when I’m downtown to get work done.

Good stuff right here. I went in for just a coffee but their selection of food and goodies almost forced me into ordering more than that. I had to look over their coffee menu for a minute and opted for their Café Au Lait and had it made with almond milk. It was good. They had a nice selection of pastries which I almost indulged in but somehow managed to talk myself out of it. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have just went for it. This place is pretty roomy with great seating options, comfy chairs and tables. It even has a wine bar which is pretty cool. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and chill. It is definitely a nice place to hang out and enjoy a coffee or snack, especially on a cold day. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The guy working the counter was totally cool and even though I changed my mind a couple times he rolled with it and didn’t flinch. I need to try more of their food and coffee options and I’ll definitely be back in the very near future to do so.

My wife and I were staying at the Hotel Indigo, a mere block from Village 631. On our first morning, we came in for a cup of coffee and they invited us to stay for brunch. We did and ordered the tofu scramble — it was absolutely delicious. We liked it so much we went back the next morning, and then the next, and again the next… all in all we got to try 4 different breakfast items here. We usually split them because the portions were generous and we’re not big breakfast eaters in any case. One reason I don’t eat breakfast out very often is because it’s usually not good. Too many restaurants are content with serving rubbery eggs or microwaved meats. Village 631 does it right, and the food is fresh, and you can really tell.

Great breakfasts. The house-cured gravlax is very nice and the bagel with it is alright. The French toast is exemplary, and the croissant is really a croissant, i.e. a flaky pastry with a moist inside. Great, friendly staff. You could hang out all day, using the free Wi-Fi, and I don’t think they’d mind. Village 631 is wide-open to the street, but there’s not much of view. The music is very nice and the sound in the huge space is excellent, btw.

Iced vanilla latte is yummy! Nice staff. Surprisingly lengthy food menu. Spacious. High ceilings. Great ambiance. Relaxed. Casual. Yet still upscale. Looks like a great place to get work done. Saw a number of individuals working on laptops.

Our initial impression? Some disappointment. When we walked in we saw a sign advertising«Sunday Brunch.» We’d selected this place to eat before a Padres game a few weekends ago because(A) we liked the breakfast menu and(B) we had a coupon. We took a seat at the bar and were bummed that the brunch menu – not mentioned on the website, by the way – is very limited. And then our frowns turned upside down. Funny how $ 2 mimosas and great service can turn things around. Boyfriend ordered the Portuguese Sausage Burrito from the brunch menu(he really liked it), and I was able to order the acai bowl(just OK; tasty toasted granola but not enough of it) I’d been craving. Quite a bit of time elapsed from when the acai bowl arrived to when the burrito was finally brought out. Not a huge deal to us, but nevertheless we were pleased when I ordered another mimosa and was told by our server, «This one’s on me.» As a matter of fact, when it came time to close our tab we discovered that all 3 of my mimosas had been left off the bill. Oh, and our buy-1-get-1-free-menu-item coupon was honored too. Wow. Again, service was really great. We sat at the bar, and I wish I remembered the young lady’s name who waited on us. Definitely an artsy coffeehouse type of place. Nice high ceilings, good live music, and a tempting dessert case. 4 stars for all those free mimosas!

This place is a very cool place to hang out and drink coffee, eat desserts, surf the web, or read. I did the drinking of an iced Americano and some leisure reading. The place is very roomy and has plenty of seating area. I sat on a very comfortable leather chair. The Americano was great. It was stronger than I am use to, but I still enjoyed it very much. It was bold I tell yah! I added a little cream to sweeten it up a bit but no sugar.( ) While I was there I noticed they had a mêlée of pastries and desserts. I could not keep my eyes of the GIANT cookies in the cookie jar.( ) Unfortunately, I was already full from eating breakfast, but I definitely made a mental note of those cookies. They play some really cool tunes in the background that make you feel comfortable because the sound level is just right. The service was playful and right on. They sure made me want to come back!

I’m pretty darn impressed of this place. My friend and I had arrange for brunch one Sunday at Café Chloe but it was too packed and there was a wait. I had walked by Village 631 on my way to the café and noticed that there weren’t a lot of people. but I decided to Unilocal it and it had good ratings. Once my friend arrived we decided to ditch Café Chloe for that day and went here instead. The staff were very nice, welcoming, and very attentive. The décor of this establishment was fun. It was an outdoors indoors theme. The brunch menu was small but that didn’t bother me at all. I had their pesto scrambled eggs and it was very good. Fresh fruit and lots of veges which I appreciate annnnndddd. they had $ 1 mimosas! You’re probably thinking. it’s probably cheap and gross… BUT! It’s wasn’t at all! It was sweet and very refreshing. and that’s saying a lot– from a person(me) who only drinks in a blue moon. Oh! Another great thing was that they had live music so it was very nice! A great and relaxing way to spend your Sunday morning-noonish.

I had visited this place when it was formerly Java Jones and was happy to re-discover a new place to take our pup. The ambience is fresh and open, backsplash of amber brick walls, and dark hardwood floors with doors that invite passer-bys to come in. Prime seating are the more plush chocolate reclining chairs my girlfriend and I were able to get, after an old man & his dog finished his cup of java. This was a plus, having experienced the not-so-comfortable iron open seats on the sidewalk for a few minutes. I had to drape my Lululemon hoodie so that the seat was not so boney :) The pesto scramble is tasty, with hints of kale, asparagus, and ham, accompanied by tiny slices of watermelon and cantaloupe. My friend got the brioche, but we both agreed my pesto scramble was much better. They did a wonderful job with the drinks-the white mocha had the perfect artiste drawing on top. It was so pretty I almost did not want to drink it. My only complaint is that because this place is relatively busy & perhaps understaffed, the food is way better than the service. We ordered the pineapple upside down cake with cream cheese filling, but our male server completely forgot about it, once the Sunday Brunch influx arrived. I graciously went up to the counter, after clearing out my own table to turn in our bkft plates and asked for the pineapple cake. The man put it in a to-go box, & as he forgot that it was for here. With that said, I would definitely go there again, because it appears to be walking distance in the downtown area & is extremely dog-friendly.

How strategic of these owners to name their business after one of the WORSTMOVIESOFALLTIME. Customers unconsciously walk in with low expectations because that M. Night Shyamalan flick sucked so bad, and then walk out with an even more heightened coffee shop experience. The Village is pretty good to begin with though. There’s super comfy chairs, a great vibe, and a bar for when you’ve had a rough day at the mobile office. It’s an awesome spot to go to for a cup of Joe and a few hours of work. Food is a little scarce, and the acai bowl was about 3 bucks more than I’ve ever paid for one, but I’ll take what I can get when the atmosphere puts me in such an enhanced email mode.
