Yummmm! Was very surprised to see a new Thai restaurant just around the corner from the ever popular Amarin Thai(which was my fav Thai until tonight) — decided to give Veganic a try and WOW! The flavor was amazing — had the hot Thai basil w/veggie faux chick’n for a guilt-free, spicy, healthy meal. So dank! Also the summer rolls are tasty too. Bf had classic spicy fried rice w/the Veganic twist faux crispy«chicken». Cruelty-free and delicious! No need to worry about MSG here or dirty fish sauce or GMO oils like the other Thai restaurants — this place is clean, high quality and cheaper than the neighboring Thai restaurants in Hillcrest, which is why this will stand out and become a new favorite for a lot of people who are vegan/vegetarian and omnivore/meat-eaters alike. Plenty of organic produce as well(not canned or frozen crap). Def going back here again and avoiding the line at Amarin. Veganic is a win! :-)

I immediately loved the atmosphere. It was very warm and the staff were super inviting. The food was FAST and very good. I had the summer rolls, tempurah veggies, the woo sen soup and the drunken noodles with fried tofu. My ONLYONLYONLY complaint was the out of place MASSIVE flat screen TV. It was playing terrible advertisements during my whole experience. Other than that everything was great !

Wow, this place is really good. The tom ka soup was amazing, and the pad see ew was really flavorful and clean. All of the flavors came through without any of the heavy fish oils coming over the top, which is what often happens with the best Thai spots. Pretty-pretty-good…

We were craving thai, and wanted something a bit on the healthier side… So here we are– vegan thai! They’ve only been open for about a month and a half and wow, we can’t wait to go back! Everything we had was fresh and tasted excellent. We started with summer rolls which were crisp and refreshing, as well as the flower cup appetizer that was filled with curried lentils and served with a great cucumber/vinegar sauce. Our main dishes were green curry– amazing!!! The curry was so light but packed full of coconut and green curry flavor, and the vegetables were outstanding. The pineapple fried rice was a bit underwhelming probably because my husband chose the faux chicken as the protein. Next time we’ll go with a simple tofu protein. All in all, fantastic service, great food, you won’t be disappointed!

I’m definitely not a vegan, but I really enjoyed eating here. The cashew nut & veggie plate was absolutely delicious, and surprisingly filling. The service was friendly, if a little slow, but I’m not one to rush anyway. I will definitely be back :)

That was awesome! I had the green curry with mock duck and it was all sorts of yummy flavors and textures. I also had the spring roll which was fresh and with a nice amount of Thai basil. Also, the ginger tea was so nice and strong just the right thing to chase the cold away. I’m so grateful to have them so close to my office!

Veganic did not disappoint. Overall, lovely service and good foods. Not extraordinary Thai foods, but a heaven for vegans! It’s hard not to compare to its distant cousin Plumeria. Personally, I like Veganic better with its specialties(5 thumbs up!) and homemade desserts. Romantic and fancy setting perfect for a date night! Food-wise, it’s trying to be more creative with specialties dish — something I really appreciate because I’m sick of some version of Kung-pao-stirfry in «special» menus. CLASSIC Pad Thai with mock duck — Very solid. Ask for toning down the spicy if you want it less spicy. I had this twice and the default spicy — IMO — is a 5 – 6 out of 10. Drunken Noodle with mock duck — Can use a slice of lemon, but I like intense flavor. Again, solid dish. Green Curry with Tofu — To be honest, it’s similar to other dishes at other Thai restaurant. Bottom line for these classic dishes, they’re not bad. Thai Fried Rice with Mock duck — Had this to-go. Honestly, it was okay. Sort of what I can make at home given the ingredients. It’s missing the smokiness and separateness of the rice that I’m looking for from fried rice. Noodle Soup — Nothing spectacular. Tom Kha — My sister got this due to the Unilocal recommendations. It’s much better than the Tom Kha I had in other vegan restaurants by far! In comparison to other Thai restaurants, it’s more well made. Definitely recommend if you like sour and creamy soup for one of those El Niño days. SPECIALTIES Duck Curry — Like Red Curry ish, but overall, love it. Totally recommending this! 3 Flavor Fish — Not too spicy. It’s mostly just sweet, sour, and soy-saucey fried fish in a batter type thing. One of my favorites.

On par with Plumeria, which is saying a lot! The Panang Curry was outstanding as was the Crispy Duck(add it to any order).

Straight up delicious. Holy mock cow! I have tried Thai food all over the country, and can say(not only because I am vegan) that this is the best Thai I have ever had. The flavors and colors in the dishes are spectacular, and the ambiance is cozy and warm. I have been twice now with a different group each time. Both nights I had Tan as my server, and he couldn’t have been nicer, or more personable. I will continue to take guests here. Even the carnivorous ones! Try the: Garden Wrap(I get a little side of peanut sauce) Green Curry with veggies Pad Thai w/mock duck Drunken Noodle w/mock duck Sticky rice w/mango and coconut ice cream Tom Yum Soup

After a peaceful stroll through the Japanese Friendship Gardens, my friend and I decided we wanted lunch. We just typed in locations offering vegetarian items and picked the closest restaurant hoping we enjoy it. Upon entering Veganic I felt like I knew instantly we struck gold! All of the tables were neatly set with China and glasses. On the wall was an elegant mural and soft music played in the background. Our waiter immediately greeted us and offered some water. Since it was cold outside we went with hot water. He understood body language very well and understood that we were deep in conversation and that we hadn’t look at the menu. I never felt rushed. I ordered the drunken noodles and spring rolls as an appetizer. I normally don’t finish my food when I dine at restaurants, but their food was so appetizing I couldn’t leave anything on my plate. By the end I was salivating for more. They’ve only been open a month, but I know with service and food this great they are around to stay! I will be coming back on my next visit to San Diego.

By far the best Thai vegetarian restaurant I have tried. Food was so amazingly delicious. Very friendly atmosphere. It was 7 of us and we all cleaned our plates. I had the spinach with bean sprouts and gat a taste of what my friends were having. We brought our own alcahol since they are still working on a license. Even better . You got to try this place. It is next to Baja Betty’s.

Ok, so this is such an unbelievable gem. We love this place and intend to become regulars. We are Vegan. We had such a delicious meal, we could hardly stop talking about it. We ordered the Garden Spring Rolls appetizer which came with a divine, minty sauce. Then I ordered Basil noodles with mock beef and my husband ordered Larb with mock duck. For dessert, Lychee ice cream made in-house. All fresh, lively ingredients. Cheerful décor. And best of all, superb service from Tan. Truly a wonderful and much needed gastronomic addition to Hillcrest.

Saw this place as we were driving down the street and decided to try it out. So glad we did because the food was great and the service was awesome. Our server was very nice and had a warm personality. We even got free dessert which was sticky rice with homemade taro shaved ice. Can’t wait to go back and try their other dishes!

Hillcrest needed a good Vegan specific restaurant, but this spot might get lost in the heavily established asian food market in the area. It’s best chance of survival is to capture the growing Vegan community’s business. The problem is despite the insinuation in the name, the restaurant is actually just vegetarian thai food. Nothing that you can’t fetch at Asian Bistro or the even closer nearby Amarin Thai. I ordered the Tom Kha Soup, Drunken Noodles, and Sticky Rice w/Taro Ice Cream. All were decent but the standout of the meal was the housemade ice cream. Velvety smooth texture that captures the butterfat essence of the traditional type. The service was attentive and kind and I was happy to give them my business, but I feel the chances are likely grim for this rather ordinary thai fare.

So thrilled there is now a vegan place in Hillcrest, and it’s charming, delicious, and reasonably priced — triple woohoo! I had the Pra Ram with mock duck and my mom had the Tofu Supreme — both were sooo yummy and flavorful. The menu boasts a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes, stir fries and curries — most of which can be customized with your choice of fried tofu, steamed tofu, veggie chicken, veggie beef, veggie duck or veggie shrimp. The décor was super cute and the place was really clean. Our server was personable and attentive and brought us a complimentary coconut ice cream for dessert. I’ll definitely be back!
