So I started having a growth on my tragus, and I went into UCSD Student health to have it checked out. For the next 3 months I was on different antibiotics because they thought it was a bacterial cyst. They concluded it wasn’t bacteria b/c it wasn’t responding to the antibiotics, so then they referred me to Dr. Gosman. I went in and was kind of disappointed with the service. With the several times we’ve met, it was really impersonal. I know they have a lot of patients and they’re pushed to see as many as they possible can, but this is my health and I should be entitled to a detailed explanation of the prognosis and plan of treatment. She would give me a real cursory explanation and then dash off to the next patient. In addition, Dr. Gosman apparently went to Africa the time I booked an appointment. I didn’t get a call back about needing to change schedules however. They said they called me, and then they didn’t try calling back. So service gets a 1. Maybe a 2. Post-op: I was too doped up on drugs to really get the clear idea of what to do after the surgery, but they should informed me better. I knew I was to take antibiotics and remove the iodine gauze after a day, but there was this incessant ringing in my ears and it was completely clogged up with stitches just jutting out. Didn’t say anything about these kind of details. However alls well that ends well. It turned out to be a benign tumor that was normally seen in young children… A hemangioma. They excised it and my hearing has come back to normal and the stitches are dissolved. All in all, I’m pleased with the job, although it doesn’t seem like I even have a tragus anymore. There is a little swelling though and I have to go get my 1 month check up soon. So after spilling my guts out, I don’t know what to say. I guess its just the nature of doctors these days, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you got the same quality of care anywhere else. Good luck. Another thing to note, I was really surprised that she was so young(and pretty: o). I was expecting a little more experienced of a doctor, and would probably request one next time.
