Jacky was awesome! I purchased her groupon for wash, cut and color (highlights) and I was impressed! She really worked with me on what I wanted to do with my hair. It’s been over 10 years since I’ve gotten any color on my hair so she really helped me with what color I should get. I was looking for a balayage highlights look and she ended up doing subtle brownish highlights. My hair is really dark brown/​black. At first I was afraid the color wouldn’t come out since I didn’t want anything too light but the color was perfect! She took her time with my hair and did the balayage look I wanted. She also put a glaze on my hair. I also appreciated how she uses cruelty free products. She was very friendly and it was nice chatting with her as my hair was in foil.
I definitely recommend Jacky — she’s super sweet and really listens to what you want and really works with you on achieving your look.

I have been getting my hair done by Jacky for 5 years+ and I have never left unhappy with the way my hair has been cut or colored. I have followed her since she began working in a salon. Jacky is meticulous, attentive and just down right talented. She has skills to pay the bills for sure. I have anxiety when it comes to getting my hair cut and she never fails to make me feel comfortable. Always personable and has great customer relationships. I came across Totem Salon through a groupon deal. I texted Jacky one of the hairstylists there and she booked an appointment for me the next day. When I got there she offered me something to drink.
I came for a haircut, wash, style and condition. The products she used are paraben and cruelty free. I really liked how attentive to detail she was. I loved how healthy and shiny my hair looked. The ambient was very calm and relaxing. I enjoyed the music playing in the background and the rustic, natural theme going on. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a professional hairstylist.

I finally found the perfect salon for me. Totem is low key, relaxing and a fun place to treat yourself. Jacky has done my hair 5 times now and I have left each time feeling excited about my new hair! She always takes the time to listen and understands vision. She is precise and meticulous, but also a creative hair genius. I recommend her to anyone who will listen.

I have been going to Jacky for the last year and a half and she is simply wonderful. I recently decided to cut my long wavy hair to a very short bob and Jacky nailed it! She is professional, sweet and ALWAYS delivers a great haircut.

After a year of searching for the right hair stylist in San Diego, I found Jacky and I have been seeing her for a year now. She has saved me from hair disasters. This visit came upon because of a slight moment of insanity when I thought I could cut my own hair with kitchen scissors. Don’t judge, we all have those moments. Jacky knows I like to keep my hair short/​asymetrical/​femine and she does it perfectly. She even gave me the most perfect of purple hues while making my hair look and feel healthier than before.
That wasn’t the best part of the visit. This little Totem Salon was a great place to hang out. The conversation flowed between hair dressers and clients and we had a great time amongst a variety of topics. This made the 3 hours I was there fly by.

Kayla is amazing! She has a true professional eye and takes the time to figure out exactly what you want. I have never had such a great cut and color job in my life! I will never stop going to her!

I was referred by a friend of mine to Kayla after a few too many okay kaircuts and I must say I am only going to Kayla at Totem Salon. She cares, takes her time, and is very easy to talk to. Oh yeah did I mention she has a full bar while you’re getting your hair cut?! Yeah its true! Beer, wine, whiskey, you name it, this girl has got it. I look forward to my next cut. I went to see Jacky for the first time yesterday after a friend of mine recommended her… she was amazing! She really listened to what I wanted, and delivered a great haircut. I left feeling like my hair looked healthy, shiny, and expertly cut. I finally found a San Diego stylist after a year of searching! Also, her prices are more than reasonable. No excuse not to get regular haircuts now!!!

This is not your ordinary salon! Going to Totem is relaxing, quiet, and FUN! Not to mention stylist that will be honest and professional giving you the best advice for the look you are going for. I won’t go to another salon because I know I won’t get the same personalized, skilled, and experienced service that I get from Jacky! She has been doing my hair for over a year now and always delivers what I want and goes out of her way to make it happen. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field for both men and women cuts and colors.
I’ve had many hair salon horror stories (as I’m sure we all have had) and Jacky puts all the uneasiness aside and makes you feel secure in her hands.
I love their cruelty free products by Kevin Murphy, which always make my hair feel brand new and not like the other name brand products used in other salons. I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t come to Totem Salon for any hair styling needs.

Love love this place! Kayla is really good and she knows what she’s doing. The place is really nice and they use animal cruelty-​free products. I have curly wild hair and some stylist don’t get what I want. She knew exactly what I needed.

Best haircut I’ve ever had. Kayla cut my hair before my wedding and was a total perfectionist. Then I figured that’s how she always is. Do yourself a favor and hit her up.

Love love love Kayla! She’s extremely talented and keeps up with the latest techniques and styles. She’s also very friendly so its always a pleasure to chat while she works. The salon is adorable and cozy… you dont have to worry about noise and trying to have a conversation over 10 other people.

I first met Kayla (one of the stylists/​owners) while she was working at another salon. She decided to start her own business and without hesitation I followed her to her new location. Kayla is awesome! She’s personable, loves what she does and is a talented and passionate stylist. I can honestly say I’ve never been happier with a stylist.
The last location she worked at had a really weird vibe, as many salons do, and I never felt comfortable there. I loved Kayla as a stylist so I stayed with it. I’m so happy for her and her new location. Kayla and her business partner did an excellent job decorating the new space which is conveniently located right off 30^th in North Park. You can stop by Café Calabria on the way in and get some of the best coffee in town, it’s right next door. If you don’t have time for Café Calabria, no worries because Kayla keeps a well stocked salon with coffee and other refreshments for her guests.
I like that it’s just Kayla and another stylist. It makes getting a cut so much more chill and relaxing. When you’re getting your hair done by Kayla, you feel like a friend, not a client. I highly recommend Totem Salon!
