I came, I saw, I shopped ! «Honestly, it’s nothing but a headache keeping up with all those foreign climes you’ve conquered. No one ever speaks the lingo just right and you are forced to drink nothing but beer. Remember what your Mama told you about clean underwear and not drinking the water. Nothing brings out the skilled hunter of bargains like a rummage sale. The Thursday Club just held it’s 83rd Annual Rummage Sale at the Activity Center in Balboa Park. A two day event filled with excitement, trepidation and lots of bargains. They have plants, books, clothing, accessories, jewelry, household items, electronics, toys and anything else you can thinks of. Strike that, this is strictly a PG event not X rated. On the first day, Saturday(9 – 4), everything is for sale at posted prices. Closing day, Sunday(10 – 2) all items are half price. This is an annual event so mark your calendars for next year. If you go on the first day, plan on showing up at least an hour earlier then the posted opening. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a purse which leaves your hands relatively free. This year, I found a delightful DKNY shirt, True Religion jeans and a snappy red pair of sandals. My compatriot said admiringly that in that outfit I would look just like Satan’s concubine. Flame on ! Proceeds from the sale benefit various non-profits like Timken Art Museum, UN Association of SD, Helen Woodward Animal Center, Rescue Mission and others. It;s the green thing to do — re-use materials and reward yourself for doing so.
