I don’t always train Jiu Jitsu, but when I do I prefer the Robert Lovi Academy of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. What I just typed was pretty awful but this academy is not. I have trained at other places but have found a unique vibe and energy that surrounds this place that is ideal for me. Rob is a very talented practitioner and teacher of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I love how technical the classes are and I really enjoy training with all the other students. There are people of all shapes and sizes and a growing number of female students, which I think speaks volumes about a place that teaches a grappling and self defense art. I always have fun in class and I can say that my Jiu Jitsu has improved exponentially from the time I have been training here. I feel very comfortable with Rob teaching me and also with all the other students I train with. Some of the higher belts are a great help to me and are always super friendly and willing to roll and work on techniques. Rob is a black belt under Master Pedro Sauer. If you’ve studied Jiu Jitsu previously and the name isn’t familiar you need to open another tab and get to googlin’(right after you read the rest of this review). The mat area is large, the mats are high quality and a pleasure to train on. The training area is on the 2nd floor of the building which is great because you don’t get people gawking through the windows or hanging out being distracting. The vibe here is very respectful and easy going. The academy also offers Kettle Bell training and Muay Thai throughout the week. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to better their Jiu Jitsu technique, have fun and learn a challenging and exciting skill set or just get in shape and improve their confidence. Ps. Their kids program is really good, too!

Okay I’m just going to go a head and say it, in so-cal there is a high concentration of douch-baggery if you will. These awful males seem to gather with their fellow fucktardains at certain places and/or events. Such as by certainly not limited to PB Bar and Grill in fact all of PB, Stingera, Tilly’s, Off-roading events(They normally have their own«Clothing line», No I don’t want your logo on a T-shirt, Thanks), All of North County and most of all FIght gyms! These Tap-out roid dens make me want to take a cheese grater to my skin and do a crying game shower. No thanks on the«personal lessons» guys. I’m good. My Vag will thank me later. Rob’s gym is a different for more than a few reasons, they’re not trying to be bad asses or be «fighters» they’re to Gasp! LEARN. Jiu Jitsu no less. I know it’s shocking but true. Everyone in here is super respectful and the classes are small so the face time you get and the one on one time is actually very good. After taking a class there I’d recommend it to anyone either who is serious about Jiu Jitsu or someone who is just looking to train or a girl that never wants a good old fashioned rapin’. As a girl that’s 5’6 and kicking it at round 115−120(I haven’t weighted my self in months!) Its good to have something like that under your belt(oh pun-tastic!) The place is nice and clean and not covered and tacky stickers and half assed crap. Nay simple and clean. They’re motto is Jiu Jitsu is medicine I’m not gonna lie I was super hungover and by the time I was done with the class I was so proud of myself(mainly for not vomiting on Rob’s nice mats) I felt pretty good. Jiu Jitsu on my friends.
