Went there at 6:30pm to grab a beer while I waited for my take-out Mexican food next door from Sara’s(which was very good btw). Sat down at the bar. There were only seven people there. I sat there for nearly 10 minutes and was completely ignored. Granted I could have spoke up, but after five minutes I started to get curious about how long I could sit before someone took my order. When a local came in and ordered a drink I got up and left. Ironically, the guy next to me was talking to the bartender about The Pennant’s low Unilocal ratings and the bartender said she was thinking of hiring someone to help improve their Unilocal ratings. The Pennant doesn’t need to hire someone. They just need their bartenders to do their job.

When I sat down the bartender made me try his drink, it was delicious. This bar is like a fucking Motorhead song come to life. Come here to get rad, go somewhere else if you want to cry about your shitty little life. Pennant FTW.

The Pennant is a great bar. It has cheap drinks, good food and good bartenders. You gotta go on Sunday and head to the deck. Bullet the bartender will take great care of you…

This place is horrible. I don’t know how it stays open. Worst bartender, worst service. Disgusting overall place! The only reason I gave it a star is so I could post my review! Don’t waste your time or money!

This is a local dive bar at definition not for squares. Alot of salty old timers in here. Yeah its a little run down but that’s its charm. Food is banging bar food. Everyone who comes to hang out with me in mission beach I take here and they love it. Dogs are welcome! Beer selection is weak so order cocktails. Be polite here if your an out of towner and tip well!

Crusty beach bar and it is amazing that it’s still open. They offered this bar a «bar makeover» for a reality TV show and the owner turned it down because he is a dick. Sorry I mean his name is actually Dick. There are drinks because it is a bar. There is pool a table but it’s got a missing leg. There is a kitchen but they don’t have any food you want to eat. The upstairs is open sometimes and downstairs smells like toilet in specific areas. COD stands for crusty old drunk, a type of fish you can catch at this bar. One plus is there is a ping pong table upstairs. Also there are a lot of pretentious surfboards on the wall and it just makes you want to take one down and go into the ocean and actually surf it.

They said they would not serve us since we are from Arizona. They were rude which is shocking as the place was empty… You would think they would have welcomed our money. The place smells gross and we decided to go next door to the Beachcomer where we were welcomed right away. This place needs to hire people with customer service skills.

The service was horrible! We walked in(a party of 12) at 11:40pm and the bartender was rude and said«I wanted to close at midnight and now because of you I have to stay open until 2» even though the bar is open until 2 that night! Will never go back there!

Ok. So for starters, this is a local mission beach bar. In other words«members only jacket required». What a joke. For starters, they have illegal horse race gambling on the top deck of the bar. It’s $ 5.50 for a corona unless you are a local then it’s half off. Bar tenders are unfriendly. Also someone should have the place quarantined. There are wires strewed all over connecting God knows what to what and as soon as you step foot in the bathroom you get the odor of a Mexican sewer. I’ve lived in mission beach in my single years and my parents have owned a house in mission beach since the early nineties. If that does not qualify me as a bonafide fraking local I don’t know what will with these douche bags. Good luck!

You have to come when Charley is here! This is my favorite bar in mission beach. Comfortable environment and good food! They are friendly and and get you involved in conversations with everyone. The square bar encourages conversation and Charley is awesome at introducing you to everyone there! Love it!

Definitly the best bar in Mission Beach if your local to the area. The drinks are priced right. Charlie the Bartender is super friendly, always remembers your name. If you dont enjoy all the PB and Mission Beach drama, this place is a good place to chill. They also have great bar food.

Theeee best Bar & Grill in Mission Beach. Staff is friendly, atmosphere is cozy. I enjoy relaxing on the rooftop bar as well as eating a great meal in the back at Karma Concessions. Free pool is a plus.

Pennant is an interesting place… It’s a dive bar that smells like urine cigarettes and alcohol… That been said drinks are cheap and strong and the beer is cold… I think they have a place to buy food however I’ve never tried it or seen it open There is a rooftop bar as well that’s actually the highlight of this place… The night I was there… There were a colony of cock roaches that were invading my space at the bar… I began to name them… That’s how eventful my night as there… Andy is a good bartender… So is the dude with mustache up stairs… The atmosphere was cool… Mostly a bunch locals who all knew each other… Some poor college kids as well… Mostly dudes. As you would expect at a dive bar.

Fun sports bar a block from the beach. Has fun facts on the walls of legend and news. Lots of seating and friendly service.

The Pennant is great. It’s old and a little smelly and a kick ass time. I love bringing friends to The Pennant from out of town. The G-Spot in that back serves some bomb wings and fries and Bullet at the bar upstairs is great. Rude and crude but wouldn’t like him if he wasn’t. I recommend ordering your good then heading straight upstairs to the patio. Bullet makes great drinks and is down to have a blast with anyone. Billets makes this place the shit! Can’t wait to go back for another beer.

I do love the pennant, but it’s all about the experience. I love Aimee Lynn and Michele to death, they provide a real experience. If you’re Midwestern, or love a local dive, you’ll get it. Everyone else hanging out in here is a trip, some interesting characters for sure, and the rooftop is the best part. Don’t bother hanging out here on Thursday nights, the aggressive USD kids definitely take it over to the max. But rooftop deck is epic, do it!

I love this bar!!! It is a «dive bar», but it’s a great«dive bar»! I have been a few times for different purposes, but my last visit was for football on a Saturday morning. I went up top and had a view of the beach, 3 large screen LCD TVs and not bad pricing at all on drinks. The enviroment is very friendly and I was lucky enough to be next to some locals that were friendly and a total riot. Bartending was very quick to get me another beer as soon as I ran out. I ordered breakfast as well which has to be done separately and you have to walk down stairs and order it, I wish it was something I could just have ordered through the bartender and then have it served to me. Not a big deal, but something that could improve the experience. The good was decent. I ordered a breakfast burrito which had eggs, cheese and bacon. It looked and tasted like something I would make at home… But that is a good thing. The eggs were fresh, the tortillas were soft and the bacon was tasty. If you are going to be in South Mission and are looking for a drink, this is a great location. If you are looking to get a drink with some sun on your shoulders, this is a perfect spot.

Reading through some of the previous reviews, I find it funny that people don’t like this place, mostly for the same reasons I DO like this place. The one thing I can’t stand about living in San Diego is its lack of dive bars at the beach. Because I live at the beach and I like dives. I’m sick of the touristy Guava Beach with their overpriced drinks and crappy food. The pennant has something those places don’t, LOCALS. They have a rooftop bar, the owner has had it for 30 years, and the place is just cool. The tuna melts are the bombbbb too! Plus the first time we were in there, the owner bought us drinks. After the gazillions of dollars I’ve spent at the other Mission Beach spots, I’ve NEVER gotten hooked up with anything. Sure, it’s got that dive bar smell and feel. It’s a dive bar! All I know is that I’m super stoked to have found an awesome local spot within biking distance from mi casa. Nothing beats a sunny sunday afternoon, a view and a brew at the Pennant. Yeah!
