Where do I start… Me and my folks have been coming to this Siete Mares for well over 30 years. This place has seen better days but this past weekend 5÷9÷2015 they redeemed themselves. The Siete Mares soup is definitely the house speciality. We had the aguachiles, mmm-mmm, deelicious! The micheladas are pretty good too! They have a juke box and you can create your very own playlist!

I am sorry but the reviews posted here have to be that of a different restaurant and not the one on Logan. The worst service ever. The waitresses kids were there throwing dominoes all over the place and being loud. A member of our party had the siete mares soup and said it was the worst this person has ever had because it was extremely salty and lacked flavor. Restrooms were dirty. We went there based on the 4 out of 5 stars and comments on Unilocal.Never again.

This place is legendary. Could use a little cleaning but that’s part of the charm. The woman running this place is wonderful. Every item on the menu looks delicious. Prices might appear high at first glance, but the portions and quality of food is so worth the price. I wanted a mixed seafood cocktail but she let me know the 7 Seas soup trumps the cocktail, so I had to take her advice. The michelada was screaming off the menu at me, so I had to get one too. The michelada, chips and salsa come out. Just looked beautiful and hit the spot so perfectly on a hot afternoon. Chips were slightly stale, but still good. Out comes the 7 Seas soup. HUGE bowl with tons of beautiful seafood peaking out of it. The side tray with the special salsa for soup, onions, cilantro, fresh corn tortillas and the most juiciest limes you could ask for. A little salsa with that broth and it’s something magical. Can’t get enough of this place. Tastes of the Baja right in the city. Can’t lose.

Don’t understand the fuss about the Siete Mares soup?!? Yeah it has a decent seafood selection but the soup base has no fish stock flavor and it’s overloaded with oregano. Definitely the wrong spice profile for this soup. The fish was overcooked and the seafood used is frozen and lacking flavor. Still looking for a good Siete Mates. Help!

Damn good soup. Nevermind the ghetto location. This place is legit. Complimentary chips and salsa, onions, lime and cilantro too. Soup is so flavorful — tons of seafood, octopus, shrimp, cod, omg its like a tomato based ocean soup! Place is a little dingy but homey — ok to go to during the day. Have taken my family here and they love it! Make sure you get a michelada here too. They’re killer. Will be there soon!

This place is a very small local hole in the wall that provides some extremely flavorfull food. One could almost say their Siete Mares soup cures. Every time I feel from stomach pains to a killer cold, I have this soup and within a day I feel better. They cook amazing fish tacos unlike any other place I’ve been to. But, I will warn bring your wallet ready. Food this great doesn’t come at no cost.

Run, don’t walk… away from this place. The food is about double the price that it should be for the quality. On top of the already high menu prices, they added extra $ onto the check because we ordered shrimp. They said that the increase was posted on a sign by the register(which was covered by an Easter decoration and written in Spanish only). This place is a RIP-OFF. I love good food and don’t mind paying for it, but this place is NOT worth it. Never again.

I work down the street and am familiar with the neigborhood but today was the first time I’ve gone in Siete Mares. The name of the joint is also the name of a soup. I’ve had different variations of siete mares throughout the baja coast and san diego and I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad siete mares soup. Parking is on-street and is never a problem. The neighborhood may look gritty because it’s a mix with the industrial but I can assure you that it’s safe. It’s PRICEY! Not too much under $ 15-. I ordered the 3 fish tacos with rice and beans. They were huge fish tacos though and stuffed with fish and lots of onions. A single fish taco is a little under $ 4-. It would help if you know a little Spanish, but if not you’ll get by. Extra points for having one side of the menu in English and the other in Spanish… same prices =) I’ll try the siete mares next of course.

You cannot go wrong with the Camarones el Diablo. You get a ton of shrimp in a spicy sauce along with tortillas, rice, beans, and a salad with avocado on top. Not too bad for $ 9 — you’ll definitely have enough left over for your late night fourth meal. The siete mares soup is delicious — I’m a non octopus eater too so i know I’m missing something but i cannot exile the thought from my head as i eat. The soup is a bit pricey so if you decide to get it — split it with others because it is THAT good. I’m pretty sure they get their tortillas from Porkyland next door, i always had to stop and get some after our meal because they are so delicious. Sodas are served in the can, no glasses but you can ask for a straw. Chips and salsa are delicious — ask for limes to squeeze over your chips, YUM! The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly and willing to educate you on good Mexican grub if you ask. Parking can be tight, there is no lot so you’ll find yourself parking on a side street. I wouldn’t feel comfortable going here alone but in a group you shouldn’t have a problem.

After suffering sticker shock over the menu and small difficulties with my very bad Spanish, Carmen our waitress guided, cajoled and teased us to a special evening. We started with very good roadside stand style Ceviche. Not the best we’ve had in town but very good. Carmen worried when we didn’t want octopus in our Ceviche so she brought a small side for those of us who weren’t crazy. Ask Carmen what should we order and she said«soap». Per Carmen they’ve been making this spicy soup for 35 years. And they have it down, bouillabaisse has nothing on this soup. It is chocked full of all manner of seafood. One word of warning, some of our lobster pieces came complete with shell. So much deserves special mention devil shrimp, devil fish, rice and carne asada that you just have to go. They have a small section of beer and even smaller selection of wine. If you care about what you’re drinking I recommend you bring your own. A word about sticker shock. I’m not sure if we got the«gringo» specials as all the dishes were over $ 10.00. The soup for example was $ 15.00 but it provided 4 servings full of seafood. In the end we were happy with the price per kg forked into our gullets. As Carmen learned what we liked she would bring by a sample of other dishes and say, «you come back next week» and I think I will. 7 Mares is a few blocks south of Cuatos Milpas on the east side of Logan. You can’t miss 7 Mares as it is painted beautiful Mexican blue and has a sandwich board out front.

Best soup ever!!! There famous soup is Siete Mares soup, it has a mix of all sea foods(from shrimp — lobster tales). There SALSA and Chips are the very best in all San Diego. NOt kidding we go here at least once a month. It’s very similar to Mom’s «Chupe de Camarones»(peruvian soup), so I feel great after a bowl. By the way, one serving will feed two.

Wtf — how is it possible that I am the first one to review Siete Mares? Siete Mares is located outside of downtown in Barrio Logan and their Siete Mares or Shrimp soup is the shhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Five years ago I was in SD visiting native SDians who took me here and I vividly remembered the place and found it when I moved to SD. The wait staff is friendly, it is clean enough, and parking is no problem.
