I love Dr. Shahbaz. He is a fantastic doctor. His office staff is not that great. They even have a reputation with other doctors offices but if you stick it out and make it past the front office then you will undoubtedly be happy with your service. He listens when you say something is wrong and he thoroughly investigates everything. He’s found answers that other doctors have failed to. I have been seeing him for close to 10 years now and will always see him. So what the front office is not that great. We’re reviewing the doctor not the staff.

Dr. Shabaz was assigned to my mother-in-law about 6 months ago when her insurance coverage changed. She has a complicated health history. He made significant changes in her medication, including medication she had been prescribed by previous doctors for more than 20 years, without a plan for handling the transition. She has been hospitalized with extremely high blood pressure multiple times since she has been seeing him, but he and his office have not been responsive in calling her back or setting up expedited appointments to address this serious issue.

I have been seeing Dr. Shahbaz for 5 years now. I have found Dr. Shahbaz and his staff to be professional and very helpful. Running a practice has many challenges one of them making every new patient happy when you have a popular/good doctor that you are trying to see, Sometimes it is difficult getting started in a new office. That is the only reason I can fathom some of these other reviews which I find highly inconsistent with my experience. I think it is also important to note that my father-in-law is ALIVE because of the direct intervention Dr. Shahbaz made on his behalf at a local hospital. He heard he went in to have emergency surgery and was struggling for his life. Care at the hospital was negligible and Dr. Shahbaz as I like to say, took a flame-thrower to the place and got him elevated attention that SAVEDHISLIFE! I will be forever thankful for this DOCTOR! I am a fellow healthcare professional with a busy practice and I look up to his clinical expertise as he is a role model for myself and many other physicians. I send many of my patients to this doctor because HEPROVIDESEXCELLENT and thorough care. I can’t thank him enough and I will remain loyal to him and his practice for many years to come.

I recommend Dr. Shahbaz; my experiences with him have all been positive. He is extremely caring toward his patients and a nice guy. He is also an excellent diagnostician, a very skilled and experienced doctor. Both my husband and I have been patients of his for over 4 years and I haven’t had a problem with his staff. It’s true that we have a shortage of Primary Care docs in San Diego and it can take longer to get in or the wait in the lobby is longer than we would like, but this guy is a gem. We will continue to be patients of Dr. Shahbaz.

My mom is new to dr Shabz and I bring her to all. of her appts and we went and sat there for 45min waiting .The staff is rude my mom ran out of pills she has to have to walk and funtion so I called his office and his receptionist gave me nothing but a mom had all new assigned heart, neourology, general doctors and they couldnt refill her meds untill seen. So make an appt and the office was moving so couldn’t see her for a month. I called dr Shabz and talked with his nurse and she gave me a hassel and said it couldn’t be done he could not prescribe the medicine she needed. I went to my moms pharmacist and ask what I can do and she said that’s not true the general doctor could prescribe her the medicine ??? So I called dr. Shabazz’s office once again and told them what the pharmacist told me and miraculously my mom got her prescription after two days and probably 5 phone calls later. just awlful. front desk staff!!!

This doctor was assigned to me when I enrolled through Covered California. The person answering the phone asked me if it was through Covered California right off the bat and the immediate disdain in her voice was clear. She went from being pleasant to telling me it was three months until I could schedule an appointment as a new patient. I get the distinct feeling if I had insurance through another source I’d have an appointment much, much sooner. Sorry my health insurance disgusts you so much. I do not recommend any doctor who has staff this rude and condescending.
