I had a fantastic experience at salon del sur today! Was offered tea/​water as soon as I was greeted. Kim took the time to talk to me about my hair and what I wanted done. She was super nice and explained what she was doing as she was doing it. She did a fantastic job on my haircut. I love it! I will be back.

I started coming here about a year ago to get my hair done by Maggie. I used to think it was a little pricey, but I feel like I am definitely getting my money’s worth when she’s doing my hair. She has given me sustainable trims, saved me from a bad perm, and colored my hair beautifully. Her attention to detail while she’s working on your hair is also something to be admired. She explains things thoroughly if you have any questions, and gives her two cents on what she thinks would look good. I also became a Pureology addict after having her do my hair. Can’t help it — the products make my hair so soft and silky! From what I’ve seen, the other hair stylists who work there are also very skilled at cutting/​coloring as well. Either way, I feel like any one would be in good hands with any stylist at Salon Del Sur.

10 Stars * Kim is The Best! Top Expert in hair color. Im realy picky with my hair and Kim knows what she is doing. She is sweet and take her time to make sure Im happy. I love because not just Redken is a wonderful hair coloration but must have a professional that understands and knows how to make happen. I come since I moved one year ago to San Diego. Back than my hair red and this is a tricky color but Kim makes always my requests. And is also so relaxing and fun that 3 – 4 hours.

I’ve gotten haircuts with Maggie and she’s done them very well. However, it’s disgusting how her paddle brush and Bio Ionic square round brush aren’t cleaned. There’s hair from previous clients all over both of them. Also, the comb that she uses doesn’t seem to go in barbicide at all. Sigh, I am very disturbed!!!
As for the red headed receptionist, she isn’t pleasant over the phone or in person.

Amazing Salon, I relocated to SD. I bumped into this salon located next to Luna Grill, Mediterranean Restaurant. I couldn’t of been happier! I had my hair color and cut by Master Stylist, Jennifer Fonda. I was so happy with the results, she was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The salon uses all Redkin Products, even the whole line of Shampoos and conditioners. Their prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for. They have a great referral program!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Marissa is just the best! After moving here from the east coast I was hesitant to try a new salon, but coming to Salon Del Sur was a great choice! The staff is so friendly and always willing to work with my schedule if I need to move my appointment or reschedule. I love love love the work Marissa does and the service here is definitely worth the drive from Escondido!

I came here for the first time last night and colored my hair with Kim. The main reason I came here was that they use ammonia free color. Also I love their business hours, so I could come later after work. Kim is very friendly, and she did a great job on my hair! I definitely recommend Kim. My hair looks shiny and healthy!

Alli is the BEST! I got a cut to add shape and improve the overall health of my hair and then she did balayage highlights which are amazzzzing. I usually hate having my hair blow dried by someone else but she made me realize it’s all about the person doing the blow drying because I was OBSESSED with my hair after she finished. She is hilarious and professional and now the only person I will have do my hair. I recommend her to everyone!

I was flying into San Diego for work and I really really really needed a hair cut before my presentation with my new clients. Needless to say I looked around with the help of google/​yelp and came upon this relatively close by salon by my remote office.
Being an Asian guy (not to get all stereotypical here) I prefer to have an asian hair stylist purely based on previous encounters I had with non-​asian hair stylist that would totally butcher my hair. Luckily, this salon had one.
Maggie did an awesome job on my hair and boy was I surprised given this was a last minute deal. She took the necessary time and was very detailed in all of her inquires on what I was looking for. You’d be surprised how uncommon this is when I had to do last minute walk-​ins at other places just to get a hair cut.
I’m now ready for that presentation tomorrow… Thanks again Maggie for your much needed help!

I’ve only been here once to see a girl, Maggie, based on a recommendation from my friend’s girlfriend who also gets her hair done by the same girl at this salon. The salon is located in a strip mall off the 56 in the Carmel Valley area and isn’t a huge salon but it’s a nice area. The salon isn’t as upscale as some other San Diego salons are, but it’s clean and well-​maintained. They don’t have as many options for hair products and seem to be a RedKen-​based salon but there seems to be alot of young professional women working there giving it an energized vibe. Prices seem to be on the average for most haircuts with a senior stylist cut being around $ 50. Of course, I’m cheap and I’d been getting my haircut by the same girl for 7 years for $ 30 in Seattle, which was a steal, especially for a top notch salon experience! So, it was tough to bite the bullet and pay more, especially since I used to cut my hair every 6 weeks but I’ve lived in SD now for 2 years and have cut my hair 4 times– it’s a problem! Part of the issue is that I have really bizarre hair for an Asian girl– it’s naturally wavy, coarse yet thin, and I have tons of it! However, I felt like I was in good hands since Maggie was able to relay that information to me about my hair without me telling her. She didn’t butcher my hair and it looked really nice and smooth and felt great after! If the girls are as well-​versed as Maggie seems to be, I think you’ll be in good hands or at least you know your hair won’t get butchered :)

They do a great job and everyone who works there is awesome. I’ve had both Jessica and Maggie do my hair. Both were able to listen to what I wanted and work it out.
Jessica is awesome at hilights, I liked the blonde she chose so much that I came back a month later so I could have more of an all over color including hilights (Maggie did this). I got so many compliments after I had my hair done (both times), it made me feel good :)
Both girls were chill to talk to while they were working on my hair and did a really good job. I’m glad I came here, I would recommend it to friends.

Kim N. is the best. I’ve been a stylist for a long time so I am SUPER picky about how my hair is cut, and I know technical skills when I see them. Kim is so talented and friendly. She also is an expert at Ombré highlighting. Go quick before she books up weeks in advance, with her talent it won’t be long.

Today I walked in for a haircut. I was told to return in a half hour & came back to find I had to wait more which is fine with all the stores & food nearby. I came back & found they did have a sitting area near the back of the salon & I checked out their products section by the door.
My stylist was very sweet and gave me an amazing scalp massage while doing the shampoo. She did a nice job on the cut & styled it in a fun new way. She paid attention to detail & took it a bit shorter when I asked.
The salon was fairly clean & the staff friendly. I would return for another cut & maybe color next time.

This is a great local place for a haircut. Reasonably priced and they usually have availability the day of or the next day which is great for my last minute style family. Maggie usually cuts hair for my sister, my mom and myself and always does a great job!

I normally get my hair cut at Kearney Mesa. Since I have a newborn, it was time to look for a stylist much closer to home. A friend recommended me to this salon and I’m glad I had the courage to try someone new. I’m very satisfied with my haircut. I’ve actually scheduled my next appointment in the next few months.

I’m from out of town and was visiting my parents and in needed of a cut and color.
Rochelle was my stylist. I wanted a subtle ombré highlight. It turned out great. I love it. The scalp massage: amazing. She blow dried my hair completely so I could see what it looked like. We had to go back and tone down a few places that lifted to blonder than I wanted, but she took the time to make sure it was exactly what I wanted.
The price was great too! I think I probably got a discount for being a first time customer and it was also happy hour.
All in all, I wish this place was close to my house! Now any time I’m in San Diego, I’ll come here. Even for just a trim!

Nina is my favorite hairstylist!
She is very attentive as she asks what I would like done and gives me her input in what she thinks will go well with me. She always does a great job every time I stop by whether it be a simple color, cut or both. Unlike with other stylists, I never have to consider going elsewhere after I see her to have my hair fixed because she always does an amazing job.
I have always left pleased and would definitely recommend her to others.

I love this salon! When I first moved to San Diego, I kept hopping from one salon to another, trying to find one that I liked. The search ended when I found Salon Del Sur!
The first time I visited, I was a walk-​in. They sat me right away and my stylist really listened to what I wanted. I have very thick, long hair that needs to be cut in a special way to bring out the curls. Towards the end, I mentioned that I hated styling my hair. When I explained that I blow it out every time, the stylist showed me a much quicker way to style it using a curling iron. It looked great!
Since then, I’ve gotten to know the owner, Eddina, and have attended a few events that the salon has put on, including one where people brought their own styling equipment (i.e. flat iron, curling iron, blow dryer) and the stylists taught them the professional way to use it.
I’ve been going to Salon Del Sur for about two years now (it used to be called Rothman’s). I think what I enjoy the most about the salon is how laid back, but professional, everyone is. The stylists aren’t constantly trying to upsell you services or push products. I really enjoy my time there.

Noelle is talented! Wait, I think her name was Noelle. Great… What a helpful review. Anyhow I was wearing scrubby clothes and she gave me the «what’s your deal» eyeball which is not a great way to begin a haircut. I came in to get my long ass hair shaped into something more manageable. Too long. Too heavy. Too much.
Noelle worked it into a stylish cut with long layers. It’s still got length, but now with shape. I love it! It looks great so thanks and I will be back.
*update: Noelle did my wedding hair and it looked beyond gorgeous. So grateful!
