My friend took me here for the first time today and I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the food and drinks hit the spot. I ordered a tofu sandwich with a lychee smoothie/slush with boba(#14). Can’t beat the price for the sandwich – it was $ 3.50. The tofu sandwich probably would have been better with more veggies, but it was still tasty. I liked the fact that the tofu was thinly sliced(I’ve never had tofurky or tofu cut to resemble deli slices before so this was a first) and that some of the vegetables were pickled(I love pickled vegetables.) The lychee slush was refreshing. It wasn’t sickly sweet and it comes with whipped cream. I would probably get it without boba next time, because it had so much. If you’d like, you can have two flavors mixed into one slush(the customer after me got a strawberry-pineapple slush and that looked pretty good.) My friend ordered a #2, which came with meat and an egg. If I ate meat, I probably would have ordered that one because of the fried egg + toasted bread combination. She also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, which she let me try – it was pretty good. I don’t live close by, but if I did I would be going there more often. Cheap prices and good food. Place doesn’t accept card, so don’t forget your cash!

a friend recommend me here and I finally came. The sandwich is a little pricey but worth it. Boba’s are sold here too. They make them in a cup with a lid. They don’t seal the top. It’s pretty good I got a Thai Tea but for some reason they add whip cream. Kind of pricey too but not too bad. Overall a good place to try! I would come back! Oh and they are CASHONLY :(

Hole in the wall type deal but the sandwiches and iced coffee are so fresh and authentic. I go here whenever I’m feeling homesick.

CASHONLY. So far, it’s cash only but who knows they will accept credit cards in the future? :-) I used to go to K sandwiches until sadly their building got burned down. My coworker said that she got banh-mi at Saigon sandwiches as an alternative because she didn’t have good experience with Cali Baguette most of the time. I tried Cali Baguette once and was not satisfied with their banh-mi at all. I found out that Saigon sandwiches do offer better quality of banh-mi compared to Cali Baguette. Their prices are decent as well, slightly more expensive than K sandwiches, but from now on, I’ll be going to Saigon sandwiches only for my grilled pork & beef banh-mi, maybe until K sandwiches reopens someday. The only 2 things that I don’t really like about Saigon sandwiches are because they’re closed at 5 pm while I’m off work at 5 pm, which means that I can’t get banh-mi after work, and they don’t have the vegetarian banh-mi with shredded tofu skin like the one that K sandwiches had.

Was recommended here by a Vietnamese lady when I was staying at Barona casino. She said they made the best banh mi sandwiches in town so I thought I’d check it out. Well they are definitely one of if not the best I’ve found in San Diego. Been here twice, had the bbq pork the first time then this time had the grilled chicken. They were both equally great in their own way. Great bread, plenty of veggies and great flavor. All of their sandwiches are around $ 4. The place is in a small strip mall near Marlborogh & university AV across from the Burger King. If I could just eat these every time instead of a burger, I might drop a few pounds !! Much much healthier!

Ugh, I’ve been craving for a sandwich here. Unfortunately, the pâté in my sandwich tasted OLD today. Way to ruin my impression of this place.

Suggestion to the new owners: Add LOTS more veggies. All your customers will love you for this and keep coming back if you stuff all your sandwiches with amazing crunchy vegetables. If you want to keep more customers, ADD more veggies and make us HAPPY. Currently, it’s not enough. And just increase the cost of all your sandwiches by $ 0.50. The world needs more veggies.

Old owners, new owners, it doesn’t make a difference. This place is freaking amazing. I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu and my favorite is still the bbq pork. I prefer it with a warm baguette versus room temp, but that is the only variance I’ve ever had in my stellar sandwhiches, they’re always the same and that’s why I love this place.

This place was a big disappointment this morning… after reading the reviews and looking over the pictures, I had high hopes for this place. I came here around 8 and ordered their #1, which was the egg banh mi with meat. The lady at the register seemed friendly but was busy chatting on the phone. She just took my order and went back to the phone. I waited for 15 mins? Which was insane because I was the only person in the shop. The two women were busy handling their business before they took care of my food. Already a bad customer service. When I receive my order, the egg was not like the picture. It was scrambled and the flavored were not there. VERYBLAND. After reading the tips, I guess the old owner had sold their shop. I think that’s a big reason why their quality had changed. Be aware of the bad customer service and bland flavored food.

Helen has been serving the very best Banh Mi for a very long time. I’d like for this shop to be around forever. If I could give her strength and energy I would. Saigon Sandwich are the best you’ll have because Helen runs a tight ship, no joke, she is serious about her specialty, only serves the very best ingredients she can offer.

I was looking for a place for fresh bread or baguette to eat with the chicken curry I made. I looked on Unilocal and found Saigon Sandwich shop about 2 weeks ago. The outside of the shop didn’t look too promising, but went inside to take a look around and compare food choices as well as prices. My first time experience was great. The older Vietnamese women as I call Auntie, was very friendly. My boyfriend and I was debating to have a smoothie or not, but the Auntie convinced us its really good and she knows we will love it enough to come back. My boyfriend ordered a Coconut smoothie w/boba & I ordered Taro smoothie w/boba since she said its a popular choice. Sure enough, it came out looking refreshing and tastes really really good, yummo. I’m definitely coming back to try other flavors!!! Was worth it for the price, think it was $ 3.50. They didn’t have french baguette but instead a bread roll. It was $.60/roll, so we got 8 to try it out. We didn’t intend to buy sandwiches, but I wanted to try it, so my boyfriend ordered a BBQ grilled beef and I ordered BBQ grilled pork with extra jalapeños. It was a bit pricy, I think $ 3.95 or $ 4, but we wanted to give it a try. I fell in love with the bread roll since I put it on the stove to make it crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. It went perfectly with my chicken curry. Mmmm The meat was delish and both sandwiches was filled with extra veggies and jalapeño, so it was spicy and we both loved it!!! Totally worth every penny. Now when I have my Viet sandwich and Smoothie cravings, im going to Saigon Sandwich!!! :)

Saigon is my Banh mi «go to»…it’s just so consistently good! :) The only bad things are that they only take cash and are slow paced. Make sure you have at least 15 minutes to kill. I always order the number 3 and number 5 extra meat(one for now and one for later).

Ok so at first I was a little sketchy about this place, but didn’t doubt how good it was because 1. Hole in the wall places are almost always pretty good and 2. All the reviews have been great. I’ve never had banh mi with egg… Until today. I got the bbq pork sandwich with fried egg and holy crap it has changed my life! There’s no other way to describe it, but delicious. They aren’t stingy with the veggies and it makes the sandwich even better. I also had 2 egg rolls which weren’t as crunchy, but still yummy. Oh and also, the prices are great! My banh mi was only 3.95 or something minus tax. Total for everything ended up being $ 6.20

Went here based on reviews from Unilocal.By far our favorite Banh Mi sandwich anywhere! Spicy with jalapeños! The staff was super nice. The place is small, mainly sandwiches and groceries. Everything is fresh and you can tell in the quality. Bring your cash, because they don’t accept cards. Price are great for the quality you receive. Highly recommend!!!

*Someone* had to go and mention banh mi sandwiches to me recently and I. haven’ .head. since then. It’s been a real problem, is what I’m saying. But I remembered that I had bookmarked Saigon Sandwiches a while back and on my recent jaunt into City Heights for Asian groceries, I had the perfect opportunity to try it out. The sandwiches are all super cheap(all of them under $ 4 except the egg ones which doesn’t really make that much sense, when you think about it), but they still don’t accept credit cards(and no ATM in the strip mall, although the grocery will give you cash back with a small fee) so make sure you have some dollars on hand. I went for the BBQ pork and couldn’t have been happier. The lady taking my order asked if I wanted the(pickled) onions and mayo that came on the sandwich; I didn’t and I also didn’t think to request that they be held off, so I really appreciated that! The bread was the soft variety, so if you have a soft, girly mouth that’s easily cut up by hard bread, then you are in luck at Saigon. :) The pickled veggies were crisp and perfectly pickled and there wasn’t an abundance of the soap herb aka cilantro so that worked out for me, too. There is a cooler full of a variety of drinks as well as three small tables in case you choose to eat in. It was a bit warm in there the day of my visit, but there *is* a heat wave happening in SD so I guess it wasn’t actually all that bad, all things considered. I will definitely go back to Saigon Sandwiches the next time I have a bahn mi craving that needs to be banished!

I’m so happy I’ve finally found my go-to Banh Mi place! Herbivores, you MUST try their #14 Tofu Banh Mi. It is delicious. It has more flavor than any other tofu Banh Mi that I’ve tried. It is FILLING. Please, you gotta trust me. Everyone else, you HAVE to get the #3 Combo. My boyfriend never gets full when he orders a banh mi at other restaurants, but here, he is satiated. He said the amount of meat stuffed in that baguette is overwhelming in a GOOD way. Watch out for the jalapenos! And bring cash!

Located in the city heights area off University is another banh mi sandwich shop. First off, this place is CASH only, bring the cash. Second, the parking lot is jammed packed with people, even on a lazy Sunday afternoon, so you might have to resort to street parking, which also sucks in this area. This place is located in a little strip mall, next to a Vietnamese Café. As you enter, you can see how serious this place is about their Vietnamese food, they have all the signs up, Vietnamese products, drinks from Taiwan(love Mr. Brown coffee) etc. They have their menu held up high and they offer a big variety of different sandwiches, smoothies and big train coffees. I’m rather traditional, so I ordered a Chicken sandwich with extra peppers, because I like them spicy, I even added some chili sauce to it. I also ordered my favorite coffee drink, a iced Vietnamese coffee. To my surprise, the lady at the cash register asked if I wanted it strong or sweet flavored, I’ve never been given this option. Strong of course is what I ordered, I want a more bold coffee taste and not so much condensed milk. I sat down at their tables inside and ate my chicken sandwich. Its a regular sized banh mi sandwich, not like the huge ones you get at K sandwiches. The chicken meat they used was kinda tough, I really didn’t care for the texture of it. The pickled veggies were good though, especially adding some chili sauce to it. The baguette was great, warmed up and tasted fresh. The coffee was spot on as well, it was strong liked I had wanted, the way a real iced coffee is suppose to taste like. All in all, this place stacks up to the other banh mi places in the area, I kinda dig A-Chau a bit more though.
