I like the had Italian ice with the soft serve on top. I thought it was very good & will definitely be back. My only complaint is that they don’t open until 1pm. If they opened at 12 noon I could go on my lunch hour & would probably go more often. I watched 5 different people walk up between 12:15&12:45 today all of whom left disappointed-those lost sales would have more than paid an hour’s worth of wages.

I like this place. Tasty treats. Their custard is delicious. Their location is nice. I like how close they are. I like to go the the Mexican place on the corner, and get dessert here.

Love the crème Brule icy and personally for me I DO like their vanilla custard. And I am usually a soft serve lover! I also like the mango and strawberry ice to mix… very refreshing!

Average ice cream shop experience. Found the prices to be a little high for the quantity of frozen treat you receive. The custard was good, but left a weird aftertaste in my mouse.

New to custard. Found it too eggy and opted for soft serve. Soft serve kicked Allied Garden’s Fosters Freeze’s butt(the creamy, chocolate and vanilla poo swirl of my youth is now crystallized ice milk). Very nice in 100 degree weather! Place was meticulously maintained(always a plus when food is involved) and the counter help was delightful. Ices and gelati/o were interesting and I’d try them in the future if the soft serve doesn’t seduce me(unlikely!). Suggestions: get a tip jar and some seating(even just a small row of chairs would do). These college kids deserve a little gelt for their exceptional service and I’d like to enjoy my cone in the comfort and safety of AC!

Came here on the day they were giving out free ice, and unfortunately they ran out. They could have totally closed shop and say there was no more, but instead they graciously gave us a free ice voucher that we could use at anytime. Their hospitality and awesome customer service convinced me to give them 5 stars! Oh and parking is easy

No custard because of an egg shortage?!? No restrooms either. Don’t bring your little ones here if they may, possibly need to use the restroom. All the businesses in this strip mall have signs in the window«No public restroom». They direct you to the store — Windmill Farms. They were closed so I don’t actually know if we would have been allowed to use it. Over half of the flavors were gone when we got there. Don’t go close to closing, your selection will be slim. I will not be revisiting this location. Ever.

Im new to this area, but my boyfriend is from around here. He wanted to grab some sweets since he’s heard a lot about Rita’s. I wasn’t sure what to expect from custard ice cream, but it reminded me of shaved ice in a way! Very smooooooth and I loved it! Swedish fish was an interesting flavor to try, but when I did, it was on point ! I would totally recommend all you swedish fish lovers to try it! My boyfriend tried the blue raspberry and it tasted nothing like blue raspberry to me. It was a bit disappointing, knowing that’s my favorite flavor. Other than that, I look forward to trying the many other flavors they do offer :)

I had been hearing about the cherry yogurt slushy for months so I had a coupon and have it a whirl! YUMMY! They have many different flavors but I went with the original cherry slush and it was very good. It was pretty thick so I had a hard time eating it all. Next time I will get a small. There are always 2 for 1 coupons floating around so check them out. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because there is no where to sit since there is no seating inside and maybe one bench outside.

I was so excited to find out that Rita’s made its way from the east coast to the west coast. Now my favorite ice cream shop is near my house! YAY! The italian ice and the custard are both so good. I recommend the gelati with strawberry italian ice and vanilla custard.

Yummy, yummy, YUMMY! I have daydreams about this place and the delicious combination of custard and Italian ice! The customer service has been great the few times I have been in the store. It hasn’t been busy, but hopefully it will pick up over the summer. I would hate to see this place close due to poor foot traffic. The location is a bit inconvenient but not too bad overall. Definitely worth finding it in the back of the parking lot — you will not be disappointed!

I had heard of Rita’s before, but didn’t know there was one so close by. It was great that they were holding a fundraising event for SCLL so decided to head down and give it a try. The service was great, the product to me was average. I had a frozen chocolate custard and it just didn’t live up to something like a Moo Time in my mind. It wasn’t bad… but in my mind there are still better places out there in San Diego.

Just left this place at about 6pm, as I was going to try for the 1st time after leaving Windmill Farms. I thought the concept sounded interesting and had a coupon from the local paper. I went in to order and told the guy behind the counter it was my 1st time and could he explain how the flavors of custard mix with the ices. He said that 3 of the 6 custards weren’t available. Ok… well how does it taste when mixed… he thought for a second and said, «ummmm, I’m not sure, I really couldn’t tell you. I’ve only worked here for a few weeks». REALLY, it felt like a simple question and something he should be taught in a manual. I left… and won’t be back! The place was empty too… I feel bad for the Owners for such horrible training and representation of their product!

It’s totally worth the almost $ 5.00 I paid for my Gelati. I’m from Philadelphia and I can’t believe something so good from my childhood is around the corner from Cowles Mtn. I always get Cherry. Mango I’ve tried and I thought it was really tropical and smooth. Nice service also. Thanks ladies.

I first had Rita’s in Philly, where it was called«wooder ice»(water ice), and it was soooo good, so I was so excited when I heard they were coming to Del Cerro. We went this weekend and it was everything I wanted and more! EXCEPT they did not have the Lemon flavor. WTFFFF? That’s like opening a pizzeria and not having pepperoni. I got Mango and it was still 5 star delicious, but I was shocked. Don’t turn your back on the classics, Rita!

I becoming a fan of Rita’s the more I visit their locations around town. This time around, I had a small vanilla custard cream on the bottom, topped with iced chocolate chip mint, and then coconut ice for $ 3 and some change. Not a bad deal… Both the coconut and the mint chocolate chip ice were great, but the mint chocolate chip really had a great flavor. The mint flavor with the burst of sweet chocolate chips were bliss( ). Then when I reached the creamy vanilla custard coupled with the mint chocolate chip. Eating the custard together with the ice was just terrific( ). That frozen custard was extra creamy and rich. The coconut ice on top was good, but it just did not have as strong as a flavor profile as the rest did and it tasted a little watered( ). Great frozen custard with some nicely flavored ice at fair prices, well how can I not be a fan of that. Nice service too.

When I initially wrote a review about Rita’s in Rolondo, I didn’t provide a fair assessment. I was too hung up over the difference in prices between Philly and San Diego. The truth of the matter is that EVERYTHING in San Diego is more expensive, than on the east coast. Well, New York is costly as well. Now, onto my experience at Rita’s. The atmosphere was comforting. The staff was very courteous, and patient. Cleanliness was not an issue. They are located next to a Subway, and across from H&R Block, and there is ample parking. I recommend a lifelong favorite, which is the Gelati. I always go with cherry Water Ice, and the Vanilla custard. Bravo!

They’ve done sales at the local school, invited us to the friends and family opening, then the public opening today. Great community business — lots of friends dropping by, local kids, local families supporting a new local shop. Flavors are so true to their name — Swedish Fish is amazing! When the option is 31 Flavors vs FroYo vs Slurpee, Rita’s seems like the best option. Okay, so it’s loaded with sugar and you don’t want to eat it daily, but it’s close, tasty and reasonably priced. No more driving miles to get the kids a quick after school treat.

We were lucky enough to attend the friends and family event tonight. The root beer and vanilla gelati was perfect. I am so happy Rita’s has moved in practically next door. We are so happy to have you as our neighbor. Frozen custard, milkshakes, sundaes, blendinis, and more. Can’t wait until you guys officially open next week so I can go back and try more menu items. If they are anything like this gelati I just had, they are gonna be great.

Soft opening was tonight. Finally got my frozen custard, and my wife, who complained she was cold 10 minutes before we arrived, enjoyed a three flavored Italian ice. Go figure. Glad to have Rita’s in the neighborhood!
