Go there on a Wednesday for cheap wings and make sure to have some garlic fries. The rest of the food on the menu only reaches average and their drink prices are pretty good(at least on Wednesday evenings). The staff here is pretty chill and if you go in a few times to where they start to recognize you’ll start to have some pretty fun conversations with them. Go there to drink and eat wings midweek.

Point Loma Sports Grill and Pub is really fun! We went last Wednesday and had a great time. Like other reviewers said, the mild wings are spicer than I would have thought. They also had a pitcher special; Coors pitchers for $ 10. If that wasnt awesome enough… they had a trivia guy come and do a trivia game for a couple hours. It was fun because we got a chance to talk to the tables around us and talk a bit of smack! I did take away one star beause it did take a while for us to have anyone talk to us when we initially sat down. We kind of gave the server(it seemed they only had two for the entire restuarant) the stick eye to give us service. After a while it slowed down and we got a chance to chat it up with our server and she was a sweetie pie. The hostess also… she helped us get some of our trivia answers right also. Yeah!!!

Wing Wednesday is the only thing that gets me past the hump. There is a place that our friends go to EVERY week at 7:30 pm but we decided to see what else was out there. this place does not disappoint wings are 6 for $ 2 the breakdown is 33 cents a wing ALLDAY! no waiting til 7pm like some other establishments no extra charge for veggies or ranch/bleu cheese wings hot from the kitchen in less than 15 minutes (had to let them cool they were so hot!) plenty of seating lots of flat screens tip: the medium is what I would say is other bar’s hot. not your typical wing sauce. very tasty :)

In search of a place to get good wings, someone suggested Point Loma Sports Grill and Pub specifically because of wing Wednesday. I love wings, so I swing on by and order different flavored wings. They have a variety of spice levels and some different flavored ones as well. The thing about wings is that you never really know how hot something is until you try it. What might be considered medium spice here could taste mild at another place. I take my chances with some medium flavored, red pepper flaked, and very spicy wings. I think they had a sweet barbecue flavor as well, but I could be remembering them wrong. Well, I know that the red pepper covered one was supposed to be the hottest one, but the plain old spicy was was killing me instead! Just breathing in the general area of those wings could singe the nostrils, I kid you not! It was actually pretty painful… I ended up mostly eating the less spicy wings instead. I’m not one to avoid spicy foods, but their spice meter was higher than I expected, that’s for sure! Oh yeah! I remember they also had some good deals on beer, but I’m more of a soda gal myself so I skipped it. This place is a good spot to go to for Wing Wednesday, but having tried Buffalo Wild Wings, I can’t give this place four stars. Cheap wings are always awesome, so if you don’t want to make wings at home on a Wednesday, you can get your fix here.

Great value and quick Sunday stopover to watch the Charger Game… great location with easy /free parking… love Liberty Station. First saw PL Sports Bar from after visiting Joao’s Tin Fish and Ace Hardware in the same lot. Dog friendly place with a simple outside patio setup for those that want to bring their pets. Like the numerous televisions on all four walls surrounding the interior with different sports options, although a few TVs in the center of the room would be awesome. Great game action vibe except for the man behind us dictating every move of his game that wasn’t being highlighted… too funny… shhuuushhh. Service was slow, but friendly… possibly due to full crowd which was not standing room only… everyone had a seat. The smiling Manager stopped by the table and chatted for a bit with a story regarding the«Best Bloody Mary» in the US… waiting for the video link on YouTube. We plan to try Sunday specials next time… Mimosas or the large tempting Bloody Mary? They look yummy! Food is good, no frills, a simple menu selection~~Shock Top with orange slice(due to minimal Beer draft selection) and Hot Wings ordered medium hot and were not hot at all, but appetizing. More celery and carrots on the plate please… maybe all the Bloody Mary orders were priority. Hmmmm… cocktails versus food. My friend ordered a bottled beer with a tasty burger with garlic fries(missing garlic which would’ve been better). We think they took the garlic off, due to ordering«no onion»…didn’t try to ask. We plan to stop in another time for a second try… good location.

I’d never thought I’d ever say this about a Sports Pub and Grill but this place is horrible… really. I came here with a group of friends because we were looking for a good place to eat and drink. We had just finished walking the«Making Strides: Breast Cancer Walk» at Balboa Park this morning and had built up a very hungry appetite. It was 10:30am when we got there and the place wasn’t full, so we were able to get a big enough table to seat us all… the problem: they weren’t serving lunch until 11:00am…so we delt with it and waited until 11:00am so that we can order lunch. In the meantime, we ordered some coffee to start us off but the problem was, we didn’t get our coffee until 15 minutes later. I’ve ordered coffee a lot of times from a Sports Bar but NEVER have I had to wait for 15 minutes for a cup of coffee. Anyways, 11:00am came around and we already had our orders set(that’s what happens when you wait a half hour to order lunch.) We placed our orders but unfortunately it took 55 minutes for us to get our food… I’m not exaggerating. I can understand when a place is busy, but this place wasn’t. I’ve been to many Sports Bars around Southern California to know what busy is and what isn’t, and even the busiest of Sports Bars wouldn’t take that long. And let me tell you about refills… it’s almost non-existent here at the Point Loma Sports Grill and Pub. Getting a refill on Coffee and an Iced Tea(that’s what I had) took 20 minutes. I remember getting a refill at Oggi’s in Point Loma during a busy night and the longest it took was 10 minutes… ridiculous. When I got the Cajun Chicken Sandwich I ordered, it was very dry and there was hardly any meat on the sandwich. I will say that there was a lot of bread that made the sandwich look big, but there was no flavor or even a hint of Cajun. If there is a plus… it’s the Garlic Fries. This was the only thing in the restaurant that was good. This is not a good place to eat or watch a football game. The service is horrible, the bathrooms were dirty and the food wasn’t really that good. I’ve gone to a lot of Sports Bars and given them good reviews but this one I would not recommend to anyone.

A friend discovered this place when visiting Ace Hardware over a year ago and suggested the alumni group I chair look into it for our football viewing parties. From the first time I went in until just yesterday, they treat our group like royalty. We now host not only football viewing parties there, but also happy hours and are proud to call it our Official NIU Huskie Headquarters. They have 2 private rooms, one smaller and one larger, both with plasma tvs, leather couches and chairs and additional seating. Whether we have 5 people or 25 people, are in the bar, on the patio or in a private room, the service and the food are always great. As for the reviews about the beer pong antics, they do beer pong on the patio on the weekends so it is avoidable. They did several tournaments for charitable organizations last year so you have to give them credit for that, even if you don’t like beer pong. I’ve had breakfast, brunch, lunch, appetizers & dinner there and have yet to be disappointed. The food & drink prices are very reasonable and they offer great drink specials and a TON of free parking. Bottom line — this is a super clean, super fun sports bar so check it out for yourself!

I still love this bar. I used to come in for the lunch specials, but this time came in for an evening drink since I was in the area. Came in at around 7pm on a Saturday night. Not a lot of people here, just a private party and 3 or 4 more at the bar. Only 2 people were working out in the bar/restaurant area so it took them about 5 minutes to finally get my drink order. I was kinda not surprised that this place wasn’t full. I mean even thought it was college FB day, still, the location doesn’t really favor visitors of all kinds. I sure hope it would pick up. So it made sense that 2 people were working the floor tonight. No happy hour tonight either. Dang… just Monday through Fridays here. But hey, you’re never going to know unless you ask. But since my last visit, looks like they added some video games, a breathalizer machine and a juke box. They also do charity events so if you need to do some fund raising, give these guys a call and have your event here. Plenty of parking here. and I mean plenty… like I said before, no one comes here and no goes to the Ace hardware right next door, so the parking lot seems so desolate. So if you are in the area such as visiting Liberty Station park, this is a cool place for some sports action.

Nice quiet pub. Totally out in the middle of nowhere but I made the trip because they were the first bar in San Diego to buy a keg of Airdale’s seasonal Bombshell Belgian & I just had to try it. So yes, excellent beer, the fries are pretty tasty and they have an ample outdoor seating area. The bartenders are friendly, the place is spotless and really all it needs is a more trafficked neighborhood so they can actually have some patrons!

Disclaimer: Review of the atmosphere, drinks and service ONLY. Most of my friends ordered food, some of us only ordered drinks. The place was practically empty on a Saturday night. Yet, the service was terrible. My friend’s salad dressing came out ~8 minutes after the salad came out. A bar with greasy bar food. That’s what this place is. Not looking to come back here.

So I was down in San Diego for 3 months on business. Stayed in Liberty Station, just down the street from this place. What a GREAT place to catch a game. Tons of plasmas. Really friendly service: Joe, the GM, didn’t hesitate to switch around games and audio for me, whenever I rolled in… After a couple of months, he would switch a TV(or two) over to FSN(looking for a UW game) as soon as I walked through the front door. Literally. Will definitely miss this place. Oh, the BBQ wings and Pig Wings are pretty solid and a great deal during Happy Hour. Burgers are decent. Garlic fries very addicting.

Beer Pong on Friday’s is a lot of fun. $ 10 for a team buys you in. Mystery Beer for $ 8 a pitcher/$ 2 per pint is usually always decent. The place is well lit(way too well lit), lots of tables and seating at the bar and in the restaurant. Tons of patio space, in & outs are o.k. no cover/no door guy. Laid back bartenders which are generally fast will mix up fun shots. Dirty bathrooms. Douche baggy competitive types. The $ 1 tacos served all night are really good and big! They don’t seem to stop people from drinking too much though, by the end of the night there are always LOTS of really drunk folks… so be careful if you’re driving.

I cannot believe how long its been since Ive reviewed this place. Weve probably been here 15 times since then. Ha. /fail on me. At any rate. We went again on Wednesday and I decided it was definitely time for a review update. We havent been in two months as we have been traveling a lot and a few things have changed. Gilly and Scott dont work there anymore. Such heartbreak. I was absolutely shocked to find out. The server that was helping us, Eric, was nice enough but he was no Gilly. Shes what made this one of our favorite places! (So Gilly, if you ever read this, youre awesome!) Otherwise, the french fries were out of this world good. I dont know how any whiney ass person could ever complain about them because they are amazing. Ours have been hot and crispy every time weve gotten them and I make myself sick eating as many as I can. The wings were hot and had a perfect amount of sauce. The only change I would make to the wings is instituting an ‘all drums’ ordering option for an extra charge. I HATE the regular, non-drum wings and really wish they would add that to the menu! The potato skins that we moved outside the box to get were somewhat of a disappointment. Too much potato left in the skin, not yummy. Overall it was a good experience as usual. Let this be known though, it will never be the same without Gilly and Scott…

Fantastic choice to watch sports — they have tons of screens and lots of beer options. No microbrews really but enough variety to keep most of us happy. Full bar of course. The food is surprisingly good for a bar and the menu is lengthy. Sliders, garlic fries and wings are great deals. Wing Wednesdays is awesome at 30 cents a wing i think now. Big outdoor patio, all kinds of random people and clean bathrooms. It is usually quiet most of the week, busy on Fridays b/c of beer pong and what you’d expect on Saturdays. Nothing fancy to it but reliable if you live nearby. Joe the manager is a cool guy and occasionally v entertaining. Former rugby player and has great travel stories. Right next to Ace Hardware on Historic Decatur.

IF I COULDGIVEZEROSTARS I WOULD. I thought Id check this place out with a friend who lives in the neighborhood. the most productive thing was being able to cross it off our list of places to go. We strolled in in the middle of the day, with about 3 other people there, tops. Talking to the bartendratix, we asked about the lunch specials we saw in those dining catalogs that get mailed out. She didn’t know anything about it, and it stopped there. No, «let me check». ok fine. we ordered our sandwiches and wraps. nothing too complicated. I figured, well at least they should be delicious since we’re the only ones who ordered in this dead place and the cook won’t be in a rush to slap it together. i was very wrong. refills were ignored, and even when i asked for one, she continued to be putting away glasses, bottles for a couple of trips. bad food, bad service under the most unnecessary conditions. now i know why the place was dead when we got there.

The parking is easy, they have decent food, they have beer, their bartenders smile, the room has good acoustics so it’s not loud as hell, and they have a TV in the bathroom. What’s not to like?

This recessionista will do anything to avoid cooking. Hence, my love of the hour that is happy and any theme night. Wing Wednesday? I’m in. 3 wings for $ 1, available in multiples of 6 only — so a minimum of $ 2 is required. We ordered 12 to share, both the Diego(super hot) and the La Jolla(regular hot) along with garlic fries — we were there early enough that it was still happy hour so those were $ 2.50. Add in a $ 9 imported pitcher and we walked out with a $ 20 tab for two people. Score. The Diego wings were meh, the only reason they were hotter than the La Jolla ones was the chili pepper sprinkled on top(think red pepper flakes that go on pizza). It felt like cheating. I’d stick with the La Jolla version. Hot enough to be okay after a few(it doesn’t seem hot at all on first or second wing) but not over the top. Now the garlic fries, well, dang. One bite and I knew it was pure joy in a basket. Just call me Buffy the Vampire Slayer because I ate enough to kill any within striking distance. In fact, I ate enough to kill anyone within sniffing distance — man after all that garlic my breath was hummin’. Ambiance was very, very meh. I felt like they painted the walls, put up the TVs and called it a day. The only real decorations they had were the neon beer signs. It just needed a little something — the walls were blank, maybe a jersey here and there, or surfboards. Something. Anything. Points are on the board for the pool table, random punting game and boxing game. Put a dollar in one of those last two and you’ll get to take out any residual aggression from your team’s loss. All in all, Wing Wednesday is definitely a worthwhile adventure. Happy hour isn’t too bad either. Recessionistas MOUNTUP!

Last night Point Loma Sports Grill sponsored a fundraiser that my team was having to raise money for the Susan G Komen 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk. They gave us a deal on beer and food. For just our fundraiser, we had around 80 people. First and foremost, they were awesome to do this. They did a great job in feeding everyone in a timely manner. It would have been nice to have an extra cocktail waitress, but other than that, they pulled off taking care of our large crowd very well. As far as the bar goes, there are a ton of flat screens everywhere. There is even one in the bathroom so you don’t have to miss a minute of the game. It’s a pretty wide open place with additional table seating on a large patio. Also, since it’s kind of in a hidden spot right now(next to Ace hardware) it is a great place to catch games since it won’t be overly crowded. It’s definitely a locals place with mostly people that live in the Pt. Loma neighborhood hanging out here. As far as the food goes, I had a steak sandwich that was delicious! My friends had the chicken alfredo pasta and the burger. The burger was awesome. It had crisp bacon and huge avocado slices on it. The accompanying fries were delish as well. I definitely plan on making this place one of my regular sports bars.

Point Loma Sports Grill & Pub is a new sports bar in Pt Loma, tucked into a pretty non-descript corner of Liberty Station. The food was actually pretty good if unoriginal: I had a green salad with chicken and my date had a bacon cheeseburger. The fries were battered and pretty yummy, and the salad had a hefty amount of grilled chicken on it. The place was pretty loud, but I am just being bitchy because what did I expect from a sports bar? Yeaaah… Not exactly the place to have a quiet dinner discussing the future of your relationship, but I will don a jersey and come back for Charger games in the fall, to drink beer and yell with the rest of the military boys.
