Miquela Millard – Heart Centered Birth Doula & Placenta Services

We were very fortunate to have Miquela as our doula and I highly recommend her as a doula! Miquela is a compassionate, caring, and highly skilled doula. She provided excellent support before, during and after my delivery. Miquela fielded my questions in the weeks before I delivered. When I walked into our hospital room, I felt like I was stepping into a Hyatt hotel room because she had set it up with dim lighting, battery operated candles, and an aromatherapy diffuser :) Miquela was upbeat, positive, and helped keep my husband and me calm and focused through a very, very long labor. She even fed me snacks when I was hungry and unable to stand up! Miquela also took some awesome photographs of labor and delivery on our camera that we never would have gotten without her. Finally, she helped me process my labor and delivery afterwards. I truly appreciate the confidence Miquela had in me, which helped me meet my goal of avoiding an epidural during labor. I would love to have Miquela as our doula for our next baby!

We had an amazing experience with Miquela as our doula. She provided us with consistent energy throughout our 24 hour labor. She was support for both my husband and I, and was an asset to have with us. We successfully had a natural birth at a birth center and this was largely due to her support. I can’t say enough good things about her and highly recommend her. We will use her again if when we have another child!

Let me start by saying I don’t think there is anyone in the world I trust more than Miquela when it comes to a mommys health & a child’s well being. She is nurturing, kind, smart, experienced & gentle. I had a scheduled c-​section for my baby this past Sept 2015 & I unfortunately didn’t hire Miquela as my doula for that reason but I did use her placenta encapsulation service & I am SO GLAD I did. I was very hesitant at first but have heard so many positive things about placentophagy & after learning so much about it from Miquela… I knew it was the right choice for me. Miquela coordinated the pick up with my husband after birth. She was thorough with her instructions, prompt, easy to work with & I had my placenta pills so FAST! They made me feel like a real woman again after birth. They gave me energy & I really feel like they balanced my hormones & emotions. Miquela was there every step of the way & answered all my questions & concerns. She is a wonderful doula. I am so lucky to have worked with her & to be able to call her a friend! She is an asset to any mommy about to give birth! Love her!

Hiring Miquela was one of the best decisions we made. Both my partner and I were instantly comfortable in her presence. She’s very calm, caring and extremely knowledgable.
Our birth was an epic adventure that didn’t go as planned and involved a couple location changes and Miquela was able to assist, keep the vibe calm and made a crazy day so much easier.
Leading up to the birth I most appreciated that she would message and call me to check in — it always felt supportive and like she truly wanted to know how I was doing.
She’s just so lovely. I think choosing a doula is a little like choosing someone you would want on your life raft out at sea. I highly recommend her.
She was excellent in both birth preparation and making sure my partner felt okay. And she worked well with both the midwives and their staff at the birth centre and the staff at the hospital. She was excellent to have at our side through everything. We love her.

I’ve wanted to post a review for sometime now. I am so happy that we found Miquela for our doula. We were hypnobirth gone belly birth and even with the change in direction Miquela remained calm, sure and was pure delight to have along the journey.
Being the only other in the room with my husband and I, only we knew she was there. Playing my music for me, taking the most amazing photos and providing a continuous feeling of strength and support by just being there and steady. Truly an amazing woman and doula.

I loved working with Miquela. she was always very professional and prompt at getting back to me/​showing up on time etc so I felt like I could rely on her. She was a good listener and has a very mothering/​nurturing energy so I felt comfortable opening up and talking to her. I also felt like she respected my thoughts and opinions and was willing to help me in any way that she could. My partner and I took a hypnobirthing class and leaned lots of different positions etc. for the birth and Miquela was knowledgable about that as well and was helpful in making us comfortable experiencing the birth that we had visualized. At my actual birth, i contacted her the night on labor when I was pretty sure it was starting and she was encouraging and just told me to get back to her when I needed her next. We called her at 3am to tell her we were going to go get checked at the birth center and she was there when I came out of the exam room (at 7 cm!) so that made me feel good. When I got into the birthing room, I was kind of expecting some sort of direction from someone but nobody gave me any. I was in charge. so I just got comfortable in the tub and Miquela was quietly helping me get more comfortable in ways I would not have thought of on my own. I labored on my knees in the tub, and she gave me a pad for my knees as well as a pillow for my elbows and was on top of helping if I needed to move the pillow or pad, or change the pillow or water if they started to get cold. She was massaging my shoulders during contractions and would help encourage me to eat or drink water in between them. My mom and partner were in the room and I felt like they followed her lead. I was worried my mom would start to freak out of something, but Miquela’s calm energy really set the tone for everybody to just chill and let me do my thing :) She also took pictures for me of the actual delivery and it was really amazing to get to see the birth from the other side! Overall I felt very comfortable and supported by her and also very important I feel like she is very trustworthy and reliable and I would definitely recommend her!!!

Hiring Miquela as our doula was definitely one of the best decisions we made when prepping for a natural birth. Of course you can never be fully prepared for how you are going to feel when you give birth, but you can try.
We took a birth education class though Best Start Birth Center which was great but we also really benefited from our meetings with Miquela. Not including our first meeting, we met with her 4 or 5 times, many more times than we had agreed to in contract. We often discussed topics that had come up in class that we were interested in. She showed me stretches and labor positions. We also practiced comfort techniques like rebozo and relaxing touch.
During labor, I was so happy that Miquela was there. She remembered everything that we had wanted during labor that for me went completely out the window when trying to deal with contractions. She got our music and oil diffuser set up and even remembered that we wanted some gemstones from home around the tub. My labor was long and Miquela stuck with us the whole time. She was also a great comfort to my boyfriend who was rather overwhelmed.
We also hired Miquela to encapsulate the placenta. She delivered the capsules less than two days after baby was born. I definitely think the capsules gave me a little energy boost and I have had a great milk supply.
I would definitely do it all over again for my little one. Having Miquela around helped keep labor a beautiful and positive experience.
