I was excited to try Meskerem. I went there on a Wednesday at 7pm and the place was closed. There was no indication of the normal business hours to be found.

One of my favorite restaurants, period. Amazing service with equally amazing food. They also sell the ingredients in the store in the front of the restaurant so you can try to make it at home, which is really nice because it’s a challenge to make injera!

The owner and the women working here were so sweet and loving. It felt like I was at a hospitable person’s home being fed carefully and lovingly made food! Afterwards, since nobody was around, I even joined them for some coffee and popcorn! The injera was amazing!!! I’m so stoked on this place and intend to tell everyone about it.

Been coming here for years and have come back even when owners have changed… the food’s always been the best Ethiopian in town, and now the new owner has sprouted the place up a bit. Try the vegetarian sampler with the chicken ‘n’ egg thing.

I have been coming here for years. New ownership, but the food is still great, better than any of the other Ethiopian restaurants around. With the new ownership they have improved the interior(which was sorely needed). The injera is the best around, and that is one of the most important things about eating Ethiopian food.

Came here to get my shiro fix. The owner/chef– I think her name is Jeanette– was really sweet. The shiro(chickpea/onion/garlic/berbere/etc. purée) was exactly what I was looking for. Spicy garlicky oniony goodness. I’ll have to come back to try other things. Street parking was easy but it was a weekday afternoon. The hours are noon-ish to 9-ish I believe. Cute space. Third Ethiopian/Eritrean resto I’ve tried in SD — not as expensive as Muzita but further off the beaten path.

Amazing and authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. Huge portions. Affordable prices. Clean restaurant. Casual and basic place. Friendly service. What’s not to love? Ordered the meat combo(for 2) and veggie combo(for 2). It was more then enough food! Also the meat and vegetable Sambusa. All was good. Highly recommended!

This place is AWESOME. I’ve never had Ethiopian food before and was very curious to try it. The owner, who was a very sweet lady, helped me out by giving suggestions and explaining what the food was since it was my first time. I ended up getting a spicy beef dish(I can’t remember the name of it) but it was DELICIOUS. The flavor was great and it was just the right amount of spicy. I definitely recommend trying this place!!!

Food was amazing! Jeanette is the owner, cook, and waitress! She was awesome, we had no idea what we wanted to eat and she made us beef and lamb tibs and they were so delicious. We will be back!!!

The moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted with warm smile of a beautiful waitress. The food was awesome: tasty soft bread, variety of meat, vegetarian combination, local and imported(Ethiopian and Eritrean) beer as well as soft drinks. Price is reasonably fair and best of all the experience of traditional coffee ceremony.

Wow I couldn’t believe what I saw. OK I called to order some meat cambo and the lady told me 15 minutes so I got there and I as try to tell the lady I’m here to pick my food I see the lady warming up my food in the microwave I was so pissed I couldn’t say anything I just paid and left and throw the food outside.

Went on a date with my bf who visited Ethiopia in 2006. We were hoping for the authentic cuisine and we got it here. Rayel was our server and she was a delight. Recommended the lamb dish ½ spicy and ½ not spicy with the vegetable combination and a lentil sambusa. Man oh man was this plate HUGE but everything on it was delish. We took the rest to go :) I asked my bf where the utensils were. He said you don’t need him. He just grabbed a piece of the injera(ethiopian bread) dipped with his hands. I’m Filipino so I’m always down to eat with my hands. :) the flavors were amazing and just a great overall date experience. We will be back.

OK, I love Ethiopian food and I’ve eaten at ALL the Ethiopian restaurants in San Diego. This one is brand new and it’s hands down, one of my favorites. This restaurant is legit Ethiopian. They have a TV that has an Ethiopian channel on it. That’s enough proof that this place is totally authentic: p There was only one worker when I was here. She was the cashier and the cook. I looked at the menu and I was overwhelmed with what I wanted to order because it all sounded so delicious. I settled down for«Ye-Sega Tibs»(Prime beef sauteed with onion, garlic, and sliced, seeded jalapenos) and a «Katenga» for dessert. The food arrived 20 minutes later. I was so happy that I was gonna eat fresh Ethiopian food. The Ye-Sega Tibs was insanely delicious. I felt happy and grateful when I was eating it. That’s how good it was Now, I’ve never eaten«dessert» in an Ethiopian restaurant before so I ordered Katenga just to see how Ethiopian dessert tasted like. In my opinion, it’s not a «dessert» at all because it wasn’t sweet whatsoever. It should be considered an «appetizer.» I can’t describe the taste, it’s pretty unique; it reminds me of Indian cuisine. So, please Unilocalers, come to this restaurant if you’ve never tried Ethiopian cuisine or any type of cuisine from Africa before. You won’t be disappointed. I want this business to prosper, I want them to stay for a long time. That’s how much I love it.

This place is great. Very personal service, plenty of choices(spicier and more diverse than the other Eritrean places in town – not to denigrate those!), and lots of customization allowed. Try the lamb, the misir wot, and ask for any of the Eritrean beers. Like any Eritrean place, they won’t have them all, but they’re all worth trying(so far we’ve had Asmara, Hakim, and Meta).

Great hospitality! Awesome flavors! Check this place out! We were greeted by a kind lady who made us a meat and veggie combo even though they don’t normally offer that. The meat portions were my favorite. But the side of spinach was phenomenal!
