McGregor’s Grill & Ale House

We came here for lunch and it was pretty good. They have a pretty diverse menu with everything from seafood to fries. I ended up trying the fish and chips. It was pretty good, but greasy. The zucchini bites were also very greasy. They ended up being soggy due to the way they were fried. The service was good though and the waitress was friendly. One thing that looked good was the taco salad. It was quite big and wasn’t quite hungry enough to get it but it did look good.

Large bar, pretty decent bar food, energetic atmosphere, quick service, but medium parking.

Great atmosphere and staff are always great!
Whether during the day, on a weekend or weekday at night they are always nice and fast! The food is great and the beer is cold!
Four pool tables on top of that make this my go to pub in the area.

Great sports bar. I highly recommend the fish and chips and their buffalo wings. Live music in Fridays. Pool tables and shuffle board. Good beer selection. Parking some times difficult to find. I recommend this bar. Cheers!!!

I normally have decent experiences at this place, but for some reason, this evening was not the case. I came here with a large group of friends, on my recommendation on a Thursday night. At the beginning of the evening everything was great, and then my waitress changed. I ordered a beer and a dessert. I waited an 30 minutes and asked the waitress if she had it, she replied that she had not yet placed the order, and would do so asap. I gladly accepted and anticipated my order. Another 30 minutes passed, and I went up to the bar and asked for an update on my order. The bartender replied (in a snarky way), that if I had ordered, it would have been out by now and that I should relay to my waitress. I’m not unreasonable, so I figured she was attempting to redeem the means of the waitress, only I couldn’t understand why it was so rude. 20 minutes later I saw my waitress and I asked for an update. She told me she had not placed my order and she would do so immediately. I asked if she could only order my beer, I no longer wanted ice cream as it had gotten chilly. She brought my beer and offered ice cream on the house about 15 minutes later. I declined, after an hour and 45 minutes I chose not to take any chances. I asked for my tab instead. I received it another 45 min later. My tab was 33 $. Only to discover it wasn’t my card and tab, it was a verification tab. After i confirmed that the amount was correct, it took another 30 minutes to receive my actually singable tab.
I normally do not leave bad reviews, and honestly, I love this place, but between a rude waitress and bartender, and the lack of customer service, I will not be recommending or coming here again.

Stopped into this place on our way back to Phoenix. It was a slow Tuesday afternoon yet we still had to go to the bar to order our drinks and food.
We moved to the out side seating and our food followed shortly after. Both the wings and burger were great. However only six wings for nearly $ 10 was a little much IMO.
Beer selection was good and glad to find a place they carried local brewa. All and all not a bad experience yet it could have been better, would most likely return.

Went here on a Friday night for a Fundraiser a Co-​Worker had here. The staff were all great and so friendly and the food was also great! Will definetly return!

One of our favorite local bars! When you’ve had a long day and you just want to grab a beer and chill, this is the place to go! If you want to watch sporting games, this is the place to go. If you want to play pool, this is the place to go.
As far as drinks go, they feature a great happy hour from 4 – 7 Monday-​Friday. We usually drink beer when we’re here, but we also like their margaritas!
The bar food is great too! We especially love the zucchini strips, fries and chicken tenders. But also had a decent burger here during SD burger week.
If they’re busy, the parking lot can be crowded, but we’ve never had a problem getting a spot.

Came here with the wifey for lunch off of a whim. Glad we did! Service was great, very attentive. I was craving fish and chips before coming here and was very glad it was on the menu. Wifey ordered the California burger. Food was delivered quickly and both were DELICIOUS! Not to mention, lunch was inexpensive. Atmosphere was quiet, we ate lunch during the week and seemed like almost everyone there was business people on their lunch break. We will definitely be eating lunch here again! Wouldn’t mind coming here for happy hour either :)

I love this place. Always have. It’s an awesome mission valley neighborhood bar. I wish mission valley had more!
The service is always great.
The food is decent. Some of the food is kinda. mehh BUT the fries, fried zucchini and fish tacos are pretty legit.
They always have a pretty good selection of beers on tap. My only gripe is that they are kinda pricey with their beers. For a neighborhood mission valley bar, they shouldn’t have downtown or pacific beach prices. Where’s the hometown discount?!

I had a fundraiser here last night and Ian and Dan are amazing. They went above and beyond. I will be back again and again

I went to McGregors for the first time last night. My co-​worker held a fundraiser for the Susan G Komen 3-​day walk. It was the first time she does this at this bar. Last year’s was at another bar in downtown San Diego. The staff were so nice, helpful and supportive at McGregors. They reserved the upper deck for our group and provided us with some appetizers. The drinks were really good too! I love the Limerick Lemonade! The bar is big inside and has outdoor seating also. Great spot to hand out with friends!

I would always come to McGregor’s after a shift near by and when I use to live in the area. In all those times I loved their Irish Nachos and when I visited recently my opinion has not changed. Parking can be tough sometimes but overall this grill and ale house is a good time. They have pool tables, juke box, darts, and much more.
Its a fairly big bar and they even offer private parties. It’s just great casual place with great service. I will admit though, I haven’t been there during the busy times in awhile but in all my experiences, bouncers and servers were always kind and friendly.

McGregor’s is in my sister’s neighborhood, great local spot! Huge sports bar, lots of TV’s, bar games, and good food and drinks. They have a large wrap-​around bar plus proper tables with servers if that’s more your style. I really appreciate that they have local craft beers on tap here and a nice variety of bar food. You can’t go wrong with good beer and good company.
We like to sit at the bar, the perfect perch for TV & people watching! We’ve always had an excellent time and great service. The bartenders are fast and attentive, even on crazy nights like comic-​con costume and Halloween. Those were definitely fun crowds but demanding too. I watched those ladies behind the bar smiling and slinging drinks every few seconds like «no big deal, everything’s cool here». The focused calm in the center of the storm. Haha. Major kudos.

Soooo my new friend/​roommate wanted to treat us to drinks and a meal and this place is across the street and said it was yummy so we went here.
The food was yummy, the drinks coming fast, and the company great. They also have TVs everywhere so yay we could watch the games.
My new friend/​roomie is foreign and has not solos English so when her gift card was declined she couldn’t understand why. The manager was sooooo sweet about it, he explained it and even though she couldn’t fully comprehend he comped our bill and let me tell you it’s wasn’t a 20 $ bill. I want to THANK this establishment so much for the GREAT customer service and I will definitely be back .

I’ve been here about a dozen times. Food is decent. Drinks the same. The staff is really nice but last night i sat at a table and although Sarah was super duper nice and attentive, the drinks were sooooo slooooow. I’m assuming it was the bar and not her but twice we thought we were forgotten. Really good chicken noodle soup!!!

I sold my chargers Broncos tickets and headed over to the bar. Had a stone ruination and order 3 burgers to go for me and my roommates. I live 7 minutes away the burgers weren’t old or cold. However, they tasted terrible. Bland, no flavor, fries were bad. I do not recommend the burgers. They tasted like a poorly done attempt at in n out for 3x the price. Worst bar burger I’ve ever had, and my fat self has had a lot

By far the best bar in CA, been here so many years in a row for griz cat it’s not even funny — I recommend you get the chicken strips for sure oh and the whiskey

Fun trivia nights on Thursday, good food and a friendly staff. The management treats the regulars very well.

Neighborhood tavern with good bar menu. Have had their lunch special fish and chips. Great lunch portion… reasonably priced… delicious and tasty. Love this place!!! Come here all the time. Staff is great. Drinks stay filled! Play pool while u enjoy your drinks. Food is good and not too expensive!!! Also a patio outside to smoke

Back again for the Oktoberfest special «BAVARIAN PENNE PASTA» and beer of course but this dish should be on their permanent menu! SO DELISHHHH

Great neighborhood sports bar with friendly bartenders, a decent tap list, and good quality food (love the lettuce wraps).
I have to say that I really take issue with their table service — not the servers themselves, but with the system. Typically, we like to sit at the bar, but the last time we went, although the place was actually really quiet, the bar itself was full. We opted for a table near the bar. Our server arrived promptly to take our drink order. When it came time to order food, however, she explained that we would need to place our order at the kitchen window, but to make sure to give her name so it would end up on the same check as the round of beers we’d ordered.
Okay, fine, I have to get up and place my own food order, even though a server just came by to take my drink order. After placing our order, we were given a buzzer, which meant that we had to get up again to retrieve our food once it was ready. So even though I’m basically serving myself, the server gets a much larger tab… and I’m supposed to tip on the entire thing?
Our bill came to $ 36, which included the two beers plus an entrée each. Look, I have no problem getting my own drinks and my own food, but I don’t think it’s a good system to obligate customers to tip servers for more work than they’ve done. The kicker for us was when our server came by to pick up our dirty dishes and made a comment about how slow it was, saying she was looking for ways to stay occupied. So… maybe take our order for us? I dunno, in the grand scheme of things, it’s certainly not the end of the world, but it left a bitter taste in our mouths and we left shortly after our first round. Maybe this system is intended to make it easier for the servers when the bar is completely packed — and it DOES get packed here — but when it’s so slow that the servers actually make comments about how bored they are, maybe they should do a bit more.

Atmosphere was pretty calm for it to be a Charger Football Sunday. We were looking for a place to turn up, eat and drink during the game. We ended up leaving at the half. I ordered Teriyaki Wings and they gave me buffalo. I also ordered a basket of fries that took about 25 min. The waitress and busboy were nice just not sure I’d be back.

Good neighborhood bar with yum grub. It is always busy so don’t expect a quiet bar this place is mound and full of Chargers fans on game days.
McGregors is a must if you are on a budget and want a good food/​drink experience.
Check it out even if you are far is definitely worth it!

I finally made it in! I like this place. I met Dawn, Kevin, and Lenny the other night.
My friends told me that I would like it and I do! I can’t wait to have an after work event here since I noticed pool tables and I believe my team members would enjoy a game or two.
It’s very large place w/​nice music. I enjoyed my snack and will try something else tonight or tomorrow. I liked the wine prices and selection. Thank you for making a newbie feel at home.

First time here and it was the season opener for football. My friend told me we need to get to McGregor’s no later than 9am otherwise we won’t find a seat. He wasn’t lying! We arrived just in the nick of time as it was filling up fast. With Qualcomm Stadium being a short walk from McGregor’s this is the «it spot» for sports enthusiasts. Secured a table i the back and immediately got service from a cute blonde waitress (forgot her name). Ordered a round of bloody Mary’s and looked at over the menu. You go up to the counter to place your food order. Burger for me, breakfast burrito for my friend, and fish tacos for his cousin. Food came up quickly and bloody Mary’s were on par. My burger was awesome and huge. Everyone enjoyed the food and we ate, drank, and basked in the pregame excitement taking place. Several waitstaff came over to check on us and see if we needed more drinks. Great game day sports bar!

Been here for a hour already and they just keep walking by.

I’m blown away away by the amazing service we got! I reserved the upper deck for a birthday and we had nearly 50 guests. The food was fabulous and the service was over and beyond. The owner Ian was awesome on the phone, the manager Dan was super helpful in assisting me with party set up. 2 other employees offered help. The night manager Kevin was very nice and professional to all of our guests and the bartender Lenny was hilarious and provided stellar service. I spent many years in the industry and I know how hard it is to find one place that has it all. We will definitely do it again. Thank you McGregors!!!

This is a fun bar to hang out in. The staff is always friendly and service fabulous. There are pool tables. And darts. And shuffle board. I find the more I help their bar revenue, the better I am at their entertainment options. Except darts. Darn hand-​eye-​coordination.
Food is good, too. Check it out.

Who doesn’t love this place? Super fun place to meet up with friends within walking distance to the stadium so you can pre game here before the Charger games.

They have Ping Pong, Pool Tables, Darts and my most favorite thing a Juke Box.
I love a place that has a Juke Box put $ 10 in and blast some Rock n Roll and have a good time.
My favorite snack is the fried zucchini they slice it fresh and batter em up nom noms.
I also love the fact that they have a private area so if you want to have a private party or a meet it up.

Not much to base my review on…
i came here to meet up with some friends before going out…
i pulled up to the bar solo… i had the HH menu and full menu in front of me… not feeling hungry, but I was curious. There were some pretty good HH deals… none of them healthy! (what do i expect?) …so even though I was tempted… i opted out of food.
I decided to order a vodka soda with lime… it was $ 8 for HH and was a good stiff pour.
the bartender was very friendly and kept my water full too =)
I finished my drink and a few glasses of water and was done drinking… friends still not here…
I decided to sit closer to the door and wait… I felt a little silly sitting at the bar alone and not even drinking. the door guy was super cool and we struck up a conversation while i waited.
Finally they arrived and we were off…
I would absolutely come back here to hang with a large group of friends. There is tons of parking, tons of seating, pool tables, good HH snacks and friendly staff

I visited McGregor’s my first night in San Diego more than four years ago. Finally, last night, I returned and now I’m wondering what took me so long.
This is my kind of bar. Not too loud, not too crazy. Just a chill place to grab a drink, play some pool and hang out with friends. I was pleased to see that one of the many tvs was playing the Apple Cup, which is the rivalry game between Washington (my alma mater) and Washington State. I wasn’t sure how easily I’d be able to find a Washington-​based game in San Diego but turns out it wasn’t too difficult!

We also tried the Irish Nachos, which are potato chips with melted cheese, a jalapeño cheese sauce and jalapenos. Very good!

Looked intriguing from the outside and the name. So I decided to give it a shot. Can’t tell if you seat yourself at a table or have to be seated, so I asked the bartender. You just take a table. But it’s a whack ass concept. A gang of so called servers are hanging on the side. Then 2 come up and tell me they can take my drink order but I have to get up to order food at the counter but it can all be on one bill and they need a credit card in advance? Huge turn off and bad idea. Almost walked out because of that and the weak looking menu, but I was starving.
Nothing on the menu appealed to me. I notice the prime rib sandwich and said what the hell. The thing is monstrous. Big piece of prime rib with lots of fat not trimmed off it, lots of Applebee’s funions on it and a shit ton of chopped lettuce. Thing was falling a part. I knock through it and there’s still a ton of lettuce that covers the plate that fell out looking like a salad. I get it, sports bar mentality and trying to make the food big over quality. This place wasn’t anything close to what I was expecting from it’s name and exterior. If you like sports bars and sports bar type of food, you’ll probably like this place. It’s just not for me.
