Arguably a 5 star if you take the price into consideration. The food is pretty decent, large quantities in the lunch combos. You definitely get your bang for your buck. Great service. I could go without the egg drop soup. It was kind of thick and gelatinous. Overall a nice experience.

These guys get 5 stars for service! Always speedy and friendly. Next time you want panda express come here instead! Much yummier and they have a big selection to choose from.

We had the chow mein, orange chicken, egg drop soup and po po platter… Cheap ingredients, greasy and not good overall. Egg drop soup is fluorescent orange and very eggy. Orange chicken is fatty and overly sweet. Chow mien is way too smoky. Meh.

The food lacks flavor, really bland. The prices are okay. Except they charge $ 10 for like 11 pieces of black pepper shrimp. Which i think is wayyyy to overrr priced.

I have to change my review because I have continue to go to this place. I found my favorite beef & broccoli; chop suey lunch specials are great. Great customer service even though some days I do find them to get very busy. It’s a family own restaurant so most stuff is very authentic. Also if you like soup the hot & soup w/extra green onions is great.

It was Christmas Eve and we had just been to Mass. Now, we were hungry. Hubby thought that Roberto’s might be open, but it wasn’t. Knowing Christmas from times past, I knew that restaurants open on Christmas is Denny’s and Chinese Food. Maxim’s was right across the street, so that is where we went. It was very very busy. They changed the TV to the Chargers/Raiders game so that was good. Not expecting much for Christmas Eve on the fly, but the food was surprisingly good. We had the egg drop soup, veggie egg rolls, fried rice, and a combo dish with pork, chicken and shrimp. All was very good. We would return. After the meal, the waiter recommended the beef stew next time, said that it beats most beef stew anywhere.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Went here for takeout and was quoted 30 minutes. I understand, it’s busy, we can wait. Paid up front and waited. TWOHOURSLATER we finally received our food. The staff was apologetic and the food looked fresh, so we didn’t put up a fuss. When we got home I found out they had completely forgotten to put an item in my order. After a two hour wait for takeout, I had to drive back to pick up the rest of my order 5 minutes before they closed, giving the food time to get cold. I am very unhappy with the expectations set for wait times and the incorrect order, and I was not offered anything besides a half hearted apology. I will not be returning here.

This place is probably one of the few places in North park I’ll go to for chinese. The food is great. However they only deliver at random times. And the minimum for delivery seems a little high. Other than that I will keep coming back!

This seems to be my new Go-to Chinese spot since there’s nothing else besides Shitty-Dragon across the street. The food here is delicious, but unsatisfying. Remember the infamous Gen-Lai-Sen that used to be across from City College? This is the next best place. Maxim’s fried rice is always on-point, but their entrees lack meat. My $ 9 Snow Peas and BBQ Pork had almost 0 pork in it. My $ 9 Orange Chicken had very little meat inside of it. I guess i’ll only come here for the fried rice.

First time here & got take-out. I decided to order a few things which are my test of good Chinese food. First off, when I got home, I noticed they forgot my rice. WTF no rice! So I had Ma Pau Tofu without rice which was like eating a soupy stew. The portions were huge but unfortunately there were some disappointments. The egg drop soup was a weird neon orange. The taste was aight but there was a greasy mouth feel & oil slick in my bowl. The hot & sour soup was way too vinegary & the hot was from black pepper — again not quite right. I also ordered mo shui pork. The pancakes were super fresh & tasty but I really like some egg in my mo shui & there was none. Again huge portion but the sauce was too soupy vs silken. The pork was very tender & flavorful & the veg were cooked just right. All said & done, not a place I would go back to unless I was kinda drunk.

This is a great Chinese restaurant. The portion sizes are large and everything is fresh. We ordered at the restaurant and took our food to go. We ordered the salt and pepper wings and pork dumpling appetizer with curry chicken, Mongolian beef, and egg fried rice. Everything was really good, and under $ 45. We were offered hot mustard and chili pastes and soy without having to ask. The service was friendly and fast. Parking was easy. We will definitely go back.

This was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I ordered and picked up $ 47 worth of food only to get home and discover it was inedible. I didn’t know you could mess up something as simple as sweet and sour chicken, but Maxim’s Palace proved me wrong. Sweet&sour chicken was so overcooked half of it was impossible to even bite, but the pieces I could bite made me wish I hadn’t. Inside of a rock hard, greasy breading was a small chunk of greyish meat that didn’t look or taste like chicken. Ordered sweet & sour chicken, kung pao chicken, mongolian beef, crab rangoon and pork fried rice. The only thing edible was the white rice. Chicken was unidentifiable and the mongolian beef was as tough as jerky. To add to the mess, two different sauces(mongolian beef and sweet and sour) completely spilled out of the styrofoam(maybe not a good container for an entrée covered in sauce) thank god it was on the floor of my car and not the seat. After we each took a bite or two and realized how terrible it was, I called and asked for a refund. I then had to re-box the mess and drive back to get my cash back since they«couldn’t put it back on the card.» The only positive was that they didn’t put up a fight when I called and explained that the food was awful and wanted a refund– I guess they’re used to it.

Shrimp fried rice with broccoli is great from these guys! I reluctantly ordered from them as the reviews were mixed — so happy I did — now I have a great shrimp fried rice spot when the craving hits. The staff are friendly and the place is clean — well, the first time I went in the carpet was really bad, but by the 2nd visit they had gotten it cleaned and wow what a difference. Already been 3 times now… yummy!

So this was me going out on a limb but it was well worth it. This place is the bomb. I got the chicken teriyaki bowl to split with my five year old with two chicken egg rolls and two drinks. Total came up to less than $ 15. I was instantly greeted upon entering and the guy at the register is so friendly and helpful. I wanted to try everything. The restaurant is well lit, clean, with a nice size tv. First thing I did was take a bite out of my egg roll. Crispy outside but somehow a nice warm yummy not overcooked inside. Tasted like I bit into heaven. Everything was so fresh and delicious. This is my new Chinese place! Also was given free sweet and sour sauce for my egg rolls. This place is a hidden gem. Probably due to transfer of ownership but it is definitely worthy of a visit. Update: Also, they gave me a straw for my snapple and canned drink. I can’t stress how amazing this is. It’s such a simple gesture but makes all the difference. I’m a straw fiend. Also, I ate all my egg roll and asked my 5 year old for a bite of hers, yeah… it’s that good.

Maxim is a local Chinese spot that I go to probably way too much. Whenever I’m craving quick, tasty Chinese I know I can run down or phone in a quick order. Never had a bad experience with them and everything has been really good. Even if you are a walk-in your food doesn’t take too long to prepare. They deliver, but I haven’t used that service yet as I always try and walk since it’s only a few blocks away. Sweet and Sour chicken is a big fav of mine! I like how they give you a big cup of sweet and sour sauce so I have leftover for days! :) Service is always super friendly and I’ll definitely be a regular!

When I’m craving Chinese food in the hood, I make my stop here. We have been coming here for several years, which the food is very good. I do enjoy their Wor Wonton Soup. It is always a staple dining inside. The staff is very friendly, which is family run. They always remember us and put in our Wor Wonton Soup in before taking our order. The soup is always fresh, hot and delicious with every spoonful. I have tired many items, which my favorite are Magnolia Beef(served in thick steak portions) and wifey’s the Creamy Honey Walnut Shrimp. Every time we come here, we get great service and fresh food. The fat: Dining in service is always a great time. The skinny: Don’t be confused on the other Maxim down ECB.

I came here with two friends for dinner it was about 7 pm and they still allowed us to order the lunch specials! We did have to wait some time and the dishes came out at all different times. My friends were halfway done by the time my food came out. The schezuan beef tasted burnt and had a weird taste to it, I do not recommend ordering that. The Kung pao chicken was good and I would order that again. The hot and spicy egg drop soup was very good. The waiter was very nice but seemed to have a lot going on. We had to wait awhile for refills on water. Overall this place was just alright. Also you have to ask for no MSG.

I’ve been coming here quite often lately, so it’s time to update this review. I don’t know if the food is actually better or if I’ve just started ordering the right things, but I have been much more impressed in my recent visits than I had been in my previous review. The food is simple and delicious without being too greasy and comes in generous portions for affordable prices. The hot and sour soup is still my very favorite. I have to get it every time I come. It’s so very flavorful and warm and satisfying, I crave it anytime the weather turns cold or I’m feeling the need for comfort food. For $ 6-ish you get a huge bowl along with a side of crispy noodles — and this really is enough for a meal by itself, or to share as a starter for up to 4 people.(Please don’t ask me to share though!) My new menu favorites are the Mongolian Beef — tender beef cuts and green onions stir-fried in a light savory sauce, the lo mein — with a lovely smokey wok flavor, and the BBQ Pork. I served these to the boyfriend(who actually lived in Hong Kong for a couple of years) and he was also very impressed, as were my mother and sister who had the orange chicken and sesame chicken when I brought them to dine in. The service was fast and friendly and spot-on when we did dine in, but I still think of this as primarily a takeout place.(My current favorite takeout place, actually.) If you haven’t yet(or haven’t recently) I do recommend giving this place a try.

Ordered shrimp spring/salad rolls, and moo shu shrimp to go. The moo shu is packed, I mean loaded with med. sized shrimp and the sauce it is in [no MSGPLS] is excellent. Piping hot and served with those thin pancakes… this is just fantastic in flavor and the vegetables; carrots, bamboo shoots, mushrooms,…etc., just perfect. This is easily 2 full meals. The salad rolls are very good and I believe have finely chopped mild chilies of some kind adding great dimension. Overall, the service couldn’t have been more pleasant and attentive. I have been making it a point to seek out more places near where I live without having any presuppositions in my head about«the area»…being safe, etc. This is on El Cajon Blvd., and you know how funkified this strip can be. What a great meal I would have missed out on, and I never would have found a solid spot for a great Moo Shu! From the other reviews I saw they make their own mustard sauce… Yes! it tastes very unique. Like an improved version of the usual. Their peanut sauce is easily one of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend Maxim’s Palace! I’ll be back!
