Well I guess I didn’t learn my lesson because I went back to give this place another chance. The service was good as it has been. I ordered oxtails and THEYHADTHEM! I was so excited after expecting to be disappointed. Knowing they’d be delicious(bc they always run out) I couldn’t wait to get home and try them. WORSTOXTAILS I’VEEVERHAD! Tomatoes and onions in oxtails? I like tomatoes abs onions but this dish just wasn’t good at all. One of the pieces was cold too. Ugh. So disappointed. My husband ordered the curry chicken as he obviously didn’t learn his lesson the previous time either. The chicken was dry and the flavor just wasn’t there. He described it as baked chicken with curry sauce poured over. Oh, and even the fruit punch wasn’t good. I Almost feel bad for giving them one star bc the girl was so nice but that’s all the stars that this food deserves. Rant over.

Visited Layla’s recently with a taste for some great Jerk Chicken and a beef patty. This restaurant did not disappoint, all food was delicious and service great. As a bonus, this restaurant also serves good Mexican staples.

I’ve been there twice recently first time I order the oxtail from a Mexican girl when i got home the oxtail was frozen I could not believe it. My second bad experience I order the jerk & curry chicken combo when I got home I had jerk chicken and stew chicken. This will be my last time going here.

What a shame of a business. Started off amazing, and I would come here every week for either jerk pork, jerk chicken, oxtails or ackee and salt fish. We stopped going to Island Spice to come here. Collin was the best cook. The one girl that works the front is some kind of special-none the less rude at times. She can be classified as almost special. She works at a snail’s pace. Absolutely terrible service. Laylah’s slowly went down hill. They took away small & large plates. Then cut portions of the only size they had. For $ 14 and hardly any food. 3 pieces of oxtail. Then they hired a new cook and Collin was hardly ever there. Other guy’s food does not taste the same. Hardly any flavor, dry as hell. They are always out of food. If you’re craving for something, don’t expect it to be there. NOW they are a Jamaican/Mexican food restaurant like they didn’t have the clientele to just be Jamaican. Ok, now if you ask me… Jamaican food & Mexican food are no where close to each other. They were better off turning into a Cuban/Mexican place. They had the market for good Jamaican food but fell off and I will not be returning ever again.

Summary: 1. It’s a Mexican and Jamaican Restaurant mixed together. So the expectation of authentic Jamaican food was not met. 2. My Rum BBQ chicken was cold as it was out of a cooler; however, they replaced it with a new hot plate. 3. The price is doubled of ‘Island Spice’(IS) and the serving portions were smaller than IS. Remarks: the menu may be longer than IS but everything on the menu isn’t available. IS wins!

No clue what the food tastes like. I did try placing an order for delivery and I was sent to the«order up» website. Upon checking out the website I had to sign up and this brought me an inconvenience killing more time. I don’t understand, I had already called and I could’ve placed the order over the phone to begin with. No the order up website says that there is an additional 3.99 delivery fee plus .75 processing fee and of course this is not including tax. I don’t know what kind of service this is but to pay for another meal just for delivery doesn’t make much sense. What’s the point of having a listing with your phone number that connects you to your restaurant? What is the point if you can’t conduct business through your business phone? No we have to sign up to another website give up more information about ourselves just to be able to place an order ridiculous. So this brings me to my next question, if I go in person place an order since I’m picking it up in person and I’m placing the order in person do I get 3.99 off my food for all the extra work I’m doing? I saw the reviews and figured I’d give it a try, but this is a rip off and inconvenience.

Turning this place half Mexican is a good business love. But the quality of the Jamaican food went from great to horrible! Thanks for messing it up.

I had it just to try it a few weeks ago and was not impressed. I’m not a food snob by any means, but I’m always willing to try everything at least once. This time it was a fusion of mexican food and Jamaican food. That was not a good mix!. No thank you! The cashier was exceptionally nice though.

Delicious!!! I got the Jerk chicken sandwich and it was heavenly! I love that they toast the bun(much better than a cold soggy bun). I only knocked off one star because the fries are not good at all, cold and hard… My husband got the Jerk chicken tacos and said they were really good too, he plans to go every Sunday after his haircut right up the street. Other than that it was great. I will be returning and recommending this place.

Best Jamaican food I’ve ever had! Great Jerk Chicken here! The sauce is spicy and amazing! I absolutely loved my Jerk Chicken Sandwich with fries that had the sauce on top! I cleared my plate! Couldn’t get enough and started eating my husbands delicious cole slaw or whatever version of it they have there it was so good! He had the Jerk Chicken plate and asked for Ox Tail Gravy on top! Yummy! Next time I wanna try their patties, this flavored doh pocket type of thing with chicken, beef or vegetable inside! The gentleman who was working took my order, went to make it and had an amazing positive & friendly attitude. He was jammin’ out to his reggae which was awesome! I’m so happy we now live super close by! I can’t wait to go back for another sandwich!

I’m torn about whether to give this place a two or a three, but I’ll go with a three just on the basis of the patties(think: meat tarts), which are very, very tasty. The rest of my experience was not as tasty. It’s hard to know if the flavor of my jerk chicken sandwich went much beyond the presumably pre-fabricated sauce, which itself did not offer a very extensive spice palate. In other words, it provided the foundation of deliciousness but not the whole house. We also ordered the«jerk fries,» expecting them to be the Jamaican equivalent of Carne Asada fries… They weren’t. Instead, they were just fries(possibly of the sweet potato variety) covered with the same middling jerk sauce. Summary: Laylah didn’t get me on my knees, begging darlin’ please. Instead I just walked out the door and didn’t look back.

Tried this for the first time yesterday with the boyfriend and we were not disappointed! FOOD: I ordered the rum BBQ chicken plate while he got the jerk chicken plate. Both came with delicious steamed slaw, beans and rice, very sweet grilled plantains, and so much chicken. I had zero complaints about the food, only compliments. The plantains were so so so sweet and yummy. I even saved one slice for my last bite haha. The rum BBQ chicken was perfect for me. Tangy and the rum taste runs deep. The jerk chicken was really good but I can’t handle spicy at all. It’s sort of sweet and spicy but not way too saucy. Both chickens were cooked perfectly. So moist and tender. Everything was just great. CUSTOMERSERVICE: Um there’s not so much service here. There was only once waitress and she was nowhere to be found. The cook was out watching the Chargers vs. Seahawks game with us so I ended up asking him for some more water. I mean customer service doesn’t really bother me but they should probably be more attentive. Other than that they were really sweet though. I’d definitely recommend this place to others. Already have actually! I want to try their jerk pork next time. I’ll just take it to go though because I might need gallons of water.(I know I’m a baby)

Thanks to Unilocal for directing me to another winner! Just down the street from another Unilocal favorite, Alforon, Laylah’s Patties & Jerk offers delicious Caribbean cuisine that doesn’t empty the wallet. My date and I shared the spicy beef patty. The orange outside shell was soft and flaky, but didn’t have that much flavor. The inside with ground beef had a wonderful array of spices and seasonings. For my main dish, I had the Rum BBQ chicken dinner, which includes rice, 2 pieces of plantain, and a warm mixed veggie coleslaw. The chicken was very well seasoned and moist. The sauce was tangy, but not too spicy. I was surprised by how tasty the veggie coleslaw was.(It looked like steamed cabbage and veggies at first glance.) I also enjoyed the rice which had some kind of gravy/curry sauce for added flavor. Even though dinning room seating is an option, I would highly recommend take out. On a hot and humid dag, this place lacks air conditioning. Perhaps they were going for an authentic Caribbean atmosphere. The fans were in full force, but the hot air was just pushed around. Also, there are no restrooms for customers. So, if you gotta go, you’re going to have to hold it. Just as an FYI, bring cash to avoid the $ 0.75 fee.

Tried this place for the first time this pass weekend. Disappointed they ran out of veggie and beef patties but the curry chicken, red beans and rice, and cabbage was great! Wish there was a good place closer to me(Oceanside) but if we happen to be that way again we’ll be making another stop

Came here for the first time after 4pm on a Saturday. They were out of oxtsils. I’m not even sure they ever made them. They were also out of beef patties, chicken patties, and coco bread. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too surprised. However, I was disappointed. My Jamaican meal is never complete without a patty. I can do without the coco bread — but not the patty. Ordered one brown stew chicken meal and one jerk chicken meal, both $ 10. They came with the traditional cabbage and a couple of plantains. I loved the brown stew chicken. Reminded me of my favorite Jamaican place in D.C., Mr Browns on Georgia Ave. I like that give you large portions, so you definitely get what you pay for; I really appreciate that. Service was good. The cashier/cook/server was singing Jamaican songs as he rang up my order, added some nice Jamaican flavor to my take-out experience. My order came out lightening fast; the food is already cooked and ready to serve. I give Layla’s 3 stars. The food is the bomb, but running out of food that is listed on the menu is a real pet peeve of mine. I mean really — you’re out of patties and oxtails before dinner time AND on a weekend? Not cool. I’d like to return for the oxtails. Next time I’ll call first in order to establish what they do and do not have on deck.

Hearty food in a very casual environment. Even though we were the only people here it took a while to be noticed and served. We had the curry chicken and the jerk pork. The jerk sauce had great flavor and spice but the meat by itself was a little lacking. Perhaps worth your while if you’re in the area and in the mood for this type of food.

Great place for some oxtail stew! The chicken patties are great as well. My type of place. A whole in the wall joint with a great menu. The only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 is because many items on the menu are not available.(Ie. Saturday afternoon, there is no beef patties nor coco bread). Downer! This place is good. however, it is a bit on the pricey side for the amount you get. For Ex: Only 4 oxtails in one order. However, I will def. be back when I am ever in the area again.

After work and watching Food Network, I craved Jerk Chicken. Reviewing all the reviews we decided to head here. I knew what I wanted Jerk Chicken. The place is small and street parking only from what I could see. It didn’t take long for my meal to come out, my Jerk Chicken was served with Beans and Rice with Plantains. This is the first time in a long time that I enjoyed the Jerk Chicken. It wasn’t dry and the spice meter hit it for me.
