Great place to grab a big juicy burger! Not a fan of pineapple on burgers, so I just get a double bacon cheese burger! gotta try it!

Their Moco Loco will fill you up; it’s my «go to» meal nearby. You know the saying… «You can’t knock it until you try it;» tasting some will do the same!

Well… it’s not gourmet anything– let’s just start there. But as I’m beginning this review, I’m reflecting on all the parts of this meal that tie together to make a pretty satisfying lunch. My last time there, I got the chicken combo, which comes with a(brined???) section of chicken that I wasn’t able to identify what part of the bird it was from. Either way, it was very moist and not fatty. As I am led to believe, a staple in Hawaiian cuisine is a nice helping of white sticky rice, which was included. I happen to really enjoy sticky rice, regardless of what it is paired with, so it checks out. Lastly, they serve a delicious(read– fatty) macaroni salad as a side. For around $ 8, I got more food than I could eat and left happy. My one complaint is that every time I have gone in there, it takes a REALLY long time to get your food, even if you’re the only one in there. This one thing would put it into three-star territory. When you only have 30 minutes for lunch, waiting 15 to 20 minutes for your food just won’t do. However, I’m feeling generous, much alike their helpings, so let’s just agree to a 4 star. I’ll pop back in there and check them out a little later and we can see if I still feel the same.

We went there at 11:30am but it was so crowded already. Ordered the Beef and chicken BBQ combo and chicken Katsu Bowl. –The service was very fast and very friendly. –The tables are not enough for the customers so we waited outside for food to be ready. –Thank God that not more than 10 minutes that we waiting outside with the scorching sun, a nice young man brought our ordered for us. –The Parking is very hard to find –The meal are very worth with every dollars we paid. We have to share one combo for 3!!! Maby our family eat not much lol. :) My so love Chicken Katsu. It was very crispy not not salty at all.

I had to wait 20 minutes for my order. Just cause they wanted to push out all of the orders at the same time. Not fair! The rice was nasty and hard. The tables are dirty. The crew seems unorganized.

Get the mini plate for lunch! It’s 20 minutes later and I can’t move! Their portions are filling and never disappoint. It’s a staple lunch location whenever I’m in San Diego, Their kahlua pork is my go to favorite dish with brown rice and macaroni salad. Perfectly cooked pork and you can’t go wrong with brown rice. They also have unique juices like«strawberry guava» and«pineapple orange.» Parking can be a little tricky so get there off peak during lunch times(1100 anyone?). Have gone multiple times and will return many more.

I walked 6 miles from Downtown 5th and E Streets to get here. I was anticipating to find some lost deliciousness from my years of living in Hawaii. I get here and the service leaves much to be desired but I’m not gonna let that stop me from reminiscing on some Hawaiian food. Place is nice and neat but confusing. The walls pretty much have pics of all the food so you can see what you are ordering. I got a spam Musubi and Loco Moco. Both added up to be over $ 11.00 so I really felt like I was in Hawaii. The Loco Moco was delicious and the Mac salad was as I remembered after my taste buds had a chance to kick in and remember. The Spam Musubi was dry. The Spam was over cooked. The rice was old. May have been made awhile ago. It felt like they just nuked it for a few minutes and served it. Oh and there’s some kind of pay/token lock for the bathroom. Of course I looked like a sweaty hotmess walking 6+ miles to get here and the bathroom was locked. The person behind the register just watched me and did not get the puzzled look on my face that I was throwing at her. After I ordered and ate, I did ask about the bathroom situation to which she just gave me a magical token to get in. It was odd but by no means a bad experience. Anyone who goes here is going to be used to the«Hawaiian kine time».

I don’t care what anybody’s review is. L&L is it for island style food. They can nitpick about all the small stuff. But, if you ever been to Hawaii, eaten and got hooked on L&L, then L&L stateside is the sh@t! If you’ve got a complaint about the places stateside and never been to the ones in Hawaii, then you’re just a spoiled SoCal bum. And… The mac salad is LEGIT!!!

I usually get great food from here but I guess they have new management or new workers because they suck now. I ordered BBQ short ribs, which are usually my favorite, but they ruined it for me. They were not even fresh and basically like jerky. Hardly any meat, mainly bone… With dry meat. Way to f*ck this is up.

I love and L&L but this place has gone to shit. Horrible customer service, and stingy cooks. I’ve been eating l&l for ten years Hawaiians are never stingy with food but tell me why this place gave me one piece of beef with my bbq mix plate?! Save ur money and time this place ruined my appetite. NEVERCOMINGTOTHISLOCATIONAGAIN!

I love L&L, but don’t go to this one. Horrible customer service and horrible management. I went after work on Friday and grabbed a late lunch/early dinner to eat when I got home. Picked up my meal at 2:43pm, got home in Mira Mesa at 3:38pm and opened it up. I ordered a Loco Moco with scrambled eggs and extra gravy. What I got was an over medium egg cut up, a burger patty in shreds, and no gravy. I love this place but what they gave me looked absolutely disgusting and inedible, plus no gravy?! I called and spoke to their manager, requesting a refund to my credit card. He said because shift change happened at 3pm that they could not offer me a refund to my card, but if I brought him the receipt he would give me cash. It’s now Friday at 4pm… you want me to get on the south bound I5 and drive from Mira Mesa all the way back to National City? Please refund my card. Apparently that is not an option. The manager was unwilling to help me in any other way. I threw my food away and I will never go to this location again.

For the price you can’t beat this place for some bbq that’s better than most places in Waikiki! The Loco Moco is super delicious! A must try if you’ve never had it before! The chicken katsu is hit or miss… sometimes its perfect, other times its way too fatty to be considered katsu. This location is also in a shady area… with a coin operated door for the restroom… classy.

I have come here several times — mostly because when I lived in HI it was good! I have been disappointed every time — but this last visit was enough to finally warrant a review. My husband got the Loco Moco and his first comment was that is tasted like dirt — and then it was apparent that the grill had obviously not been cleaned due to the residue on the burger. The BBQ Chicken bowl was ok… vegetables were soggy and unseasoned and the rice was mushy. What really disturbed me was the fact that although the place had been open for roughly 30 mins, and we were the only customers, the place was filthy. The soda machine had residue all under and around it — the trash was full probably from the day before. The bench portion of the seating was filthy as well, with all kinds of dirt and food residue in the gaps. Needless to say, this will be the last time I come to this establishment. Perhaps I will give one of the other locations a try — or go elsewhere when I need some«Hawaiian» food.

Food was ok. The chicken was burnt and fatty. I wont be back to this L&L, but I will definitely try a different location.

L&L is an interesting taste of Hawaiian Barbecue that sneaks it’s way into random strip malls. I discovered this place a few years back when I first moved to San Diego and was looking for a lunch spot. I ordered the Katsu Chicken, and I was pretty pleased. It’s honestly nothing special, but the plus side is how big the portions are. They’ll load up your platter with white rice and macaroni salad and your belly will expand real quick. So… I guess the real plus side there is that it will fill you up. They have Pu Pu platters, teriyaki chicken, pork, steak, and even breakfast platters. There’s a menu item that has eggs, rice and gravy — hmmm… They serve the breakfast stuff all day. I tried these sushi-like critters that had spam on them too, and I felt like a lard ass afterwards. Spam is a staple Hawaiian snack, so i had to. L&L is a decent meal stop that has good prices, but nothing to get overly excited about…
