Great haircut She really knew what she was doing and great price! Then catch a beer at Thorn Street Brewing afterward!

I’ve been coming to this barber shop since I first met my wife. I’ll say this, she does an exceptional job, gives you a conversation that is honest and straightforward. She’s old school in that sense. Always leaves me looking clean and like a gentleman. I also appreciate her fairness in pricing. She’s not out there to try and sell you a corporate experience, this barber shop is a little of what America used to be.

Josie is awesome! As a regular customer I can tell you that the shop is quaint and the neighborhood is cute. Josie is personable and does a great job with every cut. She’s thorough and never rushes. There’s a small town feel when you get a haircut here and there’s the assurance that you are getting great service from a trusted professional and friend.

Perfection with location. Tried this for the first time because of the reviews. Very cool little shop in one of my favorite areas and even walking distance. Josie is very talented and she doesn’t do any fluff. She gives a great haircut and is meticulous. Excellent conversation and advice. Very cheap prices, so tip her well! She’s gonna be cutting my hair for however long I live in SD.

I’ve been getting my haircut here for a couple years now and always have a pleasant experience. It’s a true neighborhood barber shop where you get to know the owner/operator and she gets to know you. Is it a place you go to get the latest hair trend the fashion world is pushing? Probably not. It also won’t set you back $ 50 like one of those places. Not even close. If you’re the kind of guy that wants a no nonsense cut and a straight razor shave to clean up the back of your neck, this is a spot for you.

Josie is awesome. A good haircut for $ 12? GTFO here! But seriously, folks, Josie is meticulous and pretty quick, as rare and worthwhile combination in a barber. No reservations, just roll up and see if there is a wait(usually only 0 or 1 person). Don’t be scared of the guard Chihuahua. If there is a line, I go across the street for some pizza or just down the block for tasters at the brewery. She also cuts my kids’ hair, and is really good at keeping them happy and sitting still(prolly because she’s a parent too) and they look great when she is done. I am simple man. My hair is just a plain Don Draper cut, but she gets it right every damn time. All men in the 92104 area you have been overpaying for your haircuts! Check out JV Barber and Josie. You can thank me later…

I had the most uncomfortable experience at their shop today. I have been here before and came back unsuspecting of the mood. The barber went out of his way to start a conversation with me that was borderline intrusive and offensive about child rearing and spanking. I left with a sour taste in my mouth, shocked because these are paisanos and they had always been nothing but friendly. The only thing left to do was to leave a review and say ADIOS! Thank god for the decent haircut but sadly Ill have to find another barber to cut my sons hair that is a little more friendly to their clientele.

Great little local barber on Thorn next door to the market. Twelve bucks for a full haircut. Four bucks for a clean-up. Support your local small business!

I used to live in North Park right around the corner from JV Barber. I decided to give JV barber a shot simply because of how convenient the location was. To my surprise, Josie was a great barber. She’s funny, cute and most important; cuts hair the way you ask for it. I’ve since moved to Bankers Hill and still drive to her spot for a good cut! If you’re in the vicinity and need a cut, check her out. you’ll leave happy and better looking!!!

This is my regular barber and I’ve been coming here for 3 months now. I found out about this place here, on Unilocal.I love Josefina, she cuts my hair just like I like it, for the price you get a lot. A straight razor around the edge of your head, neck. We always chat and discuss funny family stuff, and we speak mostly in spanglish, switching back and forth freely between the two(and much to confusion of my fellow customers…). The location is perfect for me, it’s a short bike-ride from my house in South Park. De Luca’s pizza is right across the street– it’s almost like the area that she’s in is surrounded by other small businesses turning it into a little commercial district only a block long. Very cool, small part of town. I will always come here, and so should you– enjoy!

I can count the haircuts I have been happy with on one hand and I have never had a 12 dollar haircut and thought: Hmmm… ill come back here. Well this is the first. I walked up to it and almost kept on walking but I got what I wanted Cheap and good and the lady gave me what I wanted instead of a haircut she knew how to give. i also got tips on keeping up my hair and the beatles were playing on the radio. what more could you ask for

I just went there today to check it out and was thoroughly happy with the place. It’s a very small barber shop that you have to kind of look out for while driving by it to actually see it. I drove right by it my first time and then had to slow down after u-turning around because it suppose to be across the street from the pizza place. Anyways the haircut that she gave me was really nice and i was very happy with it. Oh and i think that they are closed on major holidays. Conclusion: I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a good cut.

I’ve only been there once, but I think the place is great. There was only a 5 minute wait, I got exactly the haircut that I wanted, the barber and I had a nice conversation, and the price was excellent. What more could I ask? JV made a new regular customer today.

Went to JV based on Unilocal reviews… very happy with results and the price… ten bucks… I visit upstate NY many times a year to visit my aging dad and always get a haircut up there because it is nine bucks… needed to find a reasonable place here, and I found it thanks to Unilocalers… leaving there, i stumbled upon the Mariscos German fish taco truck at 35 th and university. another fabulous find… two in one day! Walked in Josie’s and no waiting… sweet…out of there in 15 to 20 minutes looking as good as I get…

The place is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. But look for it, JV Barber is worth a try. I’ve been to the grocery store next door several times and to DeLuca’s Pizza across the street a few times before I realized that a great little haircut place right there. Josie is a pleasant professional and made easy conversation with me. For $ 8 she gave me a basic trim, nothing fancy which is exactly what I asked for. She told me the name JV comes from the initials of several people in her family. You certainly get the feeling this is a family business. It’s convenient, clean, and not at all crowded. Plus I feel good about supporting an independent business in my community. Not like the retail chain places that have a different stylist every time you go in. I definitely feel like this is a place I will go to every time I need a haircut.

I stopped in today just to get a haircut a couple of days before my interview in San Francisco on Friday. Judging by all the little cool neighborhood shops around, this place probably wouldn’t be cheaper than a place by State that I normally go to. But it is! I got a haircut for only $ 8! For only 8 bucks, I got: Hair maintenance tips; Found out that I was actually a number 3 around the sides all along(how could those other barbers neglect this fact?); Food recommendations from the pizza place across the street; Quite a few laughs from the hanging television set. This is definitely a neighborhood barber shop. Like Chuck says, this place is cozy — and very comfortable. There’s also a salon next door if the lady friend needs a little grooming as well. Open on Sundays. Cash only. Oh, this place happens to share a common name with my favorite Taco Shop in San Diego by the way! Visit Josie today! She’s nice.
