Joseph Mawhinney MD

Good doctor who is helpful and knowledgeable; however the office staff in La Jolla are unprofessional and under trained.
They refused to schedule an appointment, so I can’t get my prescriptions refilled. They don’t understand how insurance works and have unnecessary red tape to mask their lack of knowledge. They should have just apologized and listened while I finished sentences rather than interrupt repeatedly.
I didn’t yell, swear, name call etc., wouldn’t schedule the appt. or transfer me to a manager (they couldn’t they said). In the age of patient experience, this lack of professionalism is not acceptable.
After seeing him for years, I will look elsewhere since he can’t be reached for scheduling.

This dr is really hard to get a hold of. Not the person to manage depression

I completely disagree with the initial review of Dr. Mawhinney. He was very professional, knowledgeable and took time to address each and every one of my concerns. I highy recommend Dr. Mawhinney for anyone searching for a new doctor.
