So bummed they closed! Maybe they just moved? They had the best spring rolls and papaya salad!

CLOSED as of June 1. =( Giving them 5 stars though because when they were open they were great — great value, well-done, friendly staff. Apparently they’re affiliated with Koon Thai down on the other side of Convoy so I’ll be giving that location a shot.

Stopped here for lunch today by myself during a nearby conference. I was looking for something fresh, tasty, healthy, and quick. This hit the spot! I would go out of my way to return. Enjoyed the Fresh Shrimp roll and delicious soup.

One star for their new hours. I could never go to this place now. They close before I get off work and they aren’t open in the weekends when I’m actually off. What’s the deal?

Came here for a quick dinner and was very satisfied. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the menu had lots of very tasty items. Ended up ordering the crispy mock duck salad which came out pretty quickly, and was very good. I think I should’ve ordered a side of rice with it, as it was very tasty with lots of flavors, but I needed something to balance with it. Overall, nice place to check out and I’d welcome a return visit.

just stopped by for a quick snack and i got the fresh spring rolls $ 5! really fresh quick and the place is very cute. i think how the spring rolls are huge and stuffed with veggies and no vermicelli noodles in them i’ll have to come back again to try more things since the prices are too great to pass up!

I dropped in for a quickie bite at lunch, and they did not fail at all. I tried the curry puffs in both flavors, and the fried gyoza. SOMUCHYUM!!! The spinach curry puff was good, very pleasant. The chicken and potato curry puff was awesome and YUM. The gyoza were good too, but the curry puffs really stole the meal. For my next visit I have my eye on the duck over rice dishes.

This is a nice place for weekday take-out. They’re in an office area, so they’re only open Monday-Friday and they close comparatively early. They have seating space and will serve you food on real dishes, but most people come for takeout and it’s clear that’s their main business. Their actual menus is a little different from the website. They have three noodle dishes, and a few curries and stir fries. You choose a dish, brown or white rice(not for noodle dishes), a protein, and a spice level. I really like that they don’t charge extra for brown rice, but I wish their«extra spicy» level was spicier. The big draw though is the price: with tofu dishes are just $ 6. The portions are generous too, and if I eat lightly I can make one dish last for two meals. Or not. I’d pass on the fresh rolls; they’re a little boring and the peanut sauce wasn’t the best. The noodles dishes are good though. And there isn’t much in the way of lines in the evening, so you can drop in, grab your food, and be home eating in no time.

This place had decent food but it’s never freakin open. I can only be in San Diego on the weekend and when I am, I would like to be able to come here. However, every time I go, it’s not open! I came on a Saturday one time before 4pm and I was able to get food.(Checked the sign for next time and it said Saturday 1030−4pm). Then I check Unilocal to make sure it’s open before driving down on another Saturday and the time frame hasn’t changed. Then I get there and it now says closed Saturday and Sunday! You got to be kidding me! Good Food– if they were ever open!

I tipped them and they didn’t even bring my food to my table. I ordered the duck with rice($ 8) and for my boyfriend I ordered the chicken with rice($ 6). The food was pretty good and the Thai tea was delicious! I’d definitely come back! I would have given them 5 stars if it wasn’t for the fact that they didn’t bring the food to me and did it for everyone else. Duck is yums! I also like that they are a MOGL restaurant! I highly recommend this place.

Thai food baby baby baaayybbeee ohhhh, come to me… especially Green Shallots. I’m honestly a little surprised at how delightful my Spicy noodle was(pad kee mao, drunken noodle, whatever variation there is out there). I had my share of skepticism and desire to just toss this place aside, but nope, I’m hopeful. I’ve lost hope for Bieber’s recovery from his attention-seeking behavior, but I will gladly give my attention to this place. Somehow that all makes sense in my mind… Food: — Spicy Noodle with Chicken($ 7): A decently sized portion of some al dente fat rice noodles stir fried with the sweet soy sauce. It begins with the noodle, and it totally had this firm yet soft bite, which is a win in itself(i’ve had way too many failed variations!). Add in the TENDER chicken(yes, it was abnormally soft for chicken breast!), just surprising in all directions already. Yes, the chicken didnt carry the marinade, but that’s okay, sort of. Toss in the beautiful peppers and mix it around and life just became beautiful. Great option, and solid choice if you like chicken! Will get again! — Thai tea($ 2.25?): Not on the menu, but you can order it. Lovely and thick(ANDSWEET) consistency, so please be aware of that. Refreshing and a beautiful combination with the savory and homey entrée. Maybe ask for less ice — ¼ was ice for me. Boo! Pros: — Great portion size for the cost! — Surprisingly impressive taste. — Try Groupon for a deal. Yes, a beautiful deal. — Take-out fast food type setting, but they make the meal on the spot. Truly convenient if you’re on the go. If only I lived closer… Cons: — Since it looks so take-out-y, dont expect anything fancy. They will bring your dish to your table if you dine-in, but please leave your dishes on the clean-up rack when you leave! Reminds me of Ikea… — Their tables are sticky. Like noticeably sticky. In the end, I have no regrets going here for lunch. Oh man, the happiness I experience. So much win. I’ll be back for more!

Excellent tom kha soup mine had shrimp! A little concentrated bit nothing a little water won’t fix. Great combination of flavors! Everything I saw looked really good I will be going back. I love the fact that they open at 1000 am cuz my lunch break is at 1030 and close to my job. Can’t wait to try other stuff.

Their staffs were very friendly specially the girl at the cashier. she helped me pick the right menu items. The food was delicious. I tried the roasted duck over rice and chicken satay. The food came so fast. I love how they cook the food right on the front, so you can enjoy the show when the small guy cooking your food! I love the peanut sauce that comes with chicken satay. It exactly the same taste in Thailand!!! The duck skin is not crispy like Chinese style but I love the way they cook it. The duck was very tender, juicy, and tasty. words can’t even describe how delicious is it. The prices were so cheap and you got a huge portion. Also, I noticed that the music there was wonderful :) All in all I recommend this place to anyone who looking to catch great Thai food in budget.

I’m so picky when it comes to Thai and I am so pleased! I think the place has gotten better since the reviews in January because the service was so fast. Called from my office and they said 10min for pick up, I got there as soon as it was ready and I got my food hot and fast. For less than $ 8 I got chicken pad thai that was actually pad thai and not some slimy concoction that i usually get here in SD. Will certainly be back!

Green Shallots strikes me as an attempt to do Thai at a fast food pace, but not with the poor quality one finds when visiting whatever passes for Thai at the local Westfield malls. As such, the service was in fact quite fast, and the result was surprisingly tasty. In fact, I would say that my dish, the spicy basil duck, was better than duck dishes I’ve tried at other, less casual Thai places. That said, the prices also struck me as a little high. In our case, we had a Groupon, but the normal prices just didn’t fit the atmosphere of this casual joint in its out of the way location. Nonetheless, it’s worth a try especially if a Groupon deal is available. Summary: The shallots may be green, but I have faith that they will mature.

The food here is great and is always served hot. It is always served within a reasanable time, given they only have one cook. The only two waitresses whom I’ve seen there are very friendly and polite, not to mention that they also handle everything not coming out of the hot wok. The only reason they do not get five stars is they do not have a soda fountain machine and the establishment is very small. I guess this way they can keep operating costs down. Overall, the food is delicious, the portions are big and the prices are fair. Their tai tea is good too. Forgot to mention that the establishment is newer and has a modern, trendy feel and it is always clean.

Who hired that guy? Against by better judgement I bought a Groupon. At least this was a good chance to teach my kids about the trouble that usually accompanies discounts: Took 30+ minutes to ring up orders(ironic that«express» is in the name) Didn’t know how to use Groupon and eventually had to phone for help Accidentally charged my credit card for the wrong amount Had to reboot the system at least twice Ran out of 1 out of the 2 types of noodles for sale(how do you do that?!) Now let’s gets to the dishes:(portions were not as large as some of the other reviews suggested; standard if not smaller compared to other Thai places) –Thai tea– pretty good –Roasted duck over rice– decently duck, but a bit fatty even for duck –Duck pad see ew– duck didn’t taste very fresh and a bit tough(tasted like canned) and the noodles were not as seasoned as I would have liked –Shrimp pad thai(wanted pad see ew) — shrimp was decent, I got about 8 shrimps in my dish and the pad thai was so sweet that I couldn’t finish eating it –Vegetable and tofu pad thai– not as sweet as the shrimp pad thai but still pretty sweet. Didn’t have a lot of flavor and the green beans just tasted weird in there But man oh man did the frustration give me an upset stomach even before sitting down to eat. By the time the last dish came out the first dish was way cold and my poor kiddos were sitting patiently waiting for all dishes to be served prior to digging in. That was some terrible customer service. Hopefully they smooth their operation out a bit. Will not be recommending this to anyone. If you want Thai go to Thai Pepper!

This isn’t a fancy schmancy place, as I’m pretty sure the décor(chairs/tables) and plates are from Ikea, but it’s darn tasty and affordable! To start off, I loved the Thai Tea for $ 2.99.(The small is like a large.) The roast duck reminded me of a BBQ Chinese duck. Just don’t use the soy-like sauce with the floating jalapeño in it; it’s waaayyy too salty. The regular duck sauce(the yellow one) is sweet and a good complement to the duck if you’re the savory type.

I love trying new places, and love Thai. I’m not sure if today was an off day or not — but my experience was not that great. Four of us came for lunch [around 12:45−1pm], we each ordered separately. Items were missing from the orders and my yellow curry took forever. My friends were about finished when my dish arrived. We each ordered different dishes to share. The Pad Thai was so-so, the yellow curry was very salty, the chicken satay was probably cooked yesterday and heated up today. I typically like to give new places 2 runs before I decide — however, this one probably won’t get a second visit from me anytime soon. I know how it is when places start up — getting settled in is not always easy — so, I hope my review helps the owners and maybe encourages other diners to prove me wrong. Good luck Green Shallot!
