Ok, so this is no longer a MXN, back to Santana’s, I emailed Unilocal to change the name, but I think its falling on deaf ears… any who… I came here again after the name change and it has become even better, this is THEBEST quickie Mexican food you can get in all of San Diego. I have lived in San Diego all my life and I also go to Mexico quite often and this is as good as it gets this side of the border:). I noticed that after the name switch, the new owner must be less of a penny pincher because there is no more ‘cheesy’ sign on the salsa bar stating you have to ask for the carrots/peppers/onions. Also, the corn tortillas that are used for the tacos are totally authentic — they taste hand made and are 100 times better then the old MXN tortillas. I ordered the Adobada tacos and they are the best I have ever had. Every things was fresh and cooked with the correct spices perfectly! The salsa bar is soooooooo fresh and yummy with the perfect hot carrots– really crisp, not overly hot and just the right amount of vinegar; wish I had the secret recipe! LOL… I really hope that this place maintains its superiority over MXN and also over the other Santana’s locations because they quality does vary from place to place. Morena Blvd Santana’s keep up the good work!!!

It’s important to know that this restaurant has changed owners and is now called Santanas. So previous reviews are now invalid because while, yes, it’s still a Mexican Restaurant, at the same location, it now has a new staff. The new chef is from DF, Mexico. The Carne Asada is to die for.

Santana’s to Fresh MXN to Santana’s… lol so is the original owner buying it back or changing his mind or what? Regardless I come here for their adobada fries. I love that you can get a full order if you have company or a half order of you’re rolling solo. Their horchata is really good! Make sure you try their Chilanga sauce… it’s a mid spicy guacamole lemony sauce, my fave!

The best thing about this place is the salsa bar. Delicious variety of salsas with different levels of heat, plus hot carrots and charred banana peppers! And it’s kept clean. I can’t imagine that tortillas are made on the premises. But I certainly enjoyed the quality! Plus there is a large screen TV so you can kill time watching sports while waiting for your food.

This is the first post I have ever written** I’m a long time Mexican food eater from the area and never have I been charged over 9 dollars for a California burrito with guac and sour cream. This is absolutely ridiculous!!! I will never purchase another item at this establishment again.

Food was delicious. Service could’ve been better. I came in with a party of 10 and we all ordered food/drink. The wait time was not long at all. Parking is decent because you can always park along the street.

Went to this place with my boyfriend last night and they recently changed their name to Santana’s from MXN. We ordered two different types of quesadillas and before I go further I want to ask the reader, What is the main ingredient your are looking to taste when you order a quesadilla? If you guessed CHEESE then you are a genius. They use this specific kind of cheese that practically evaporates when you get it hot. After you are served a plate of quesadilla from this joint you will find yourself chewing on just bread and whatever meat you ordered. Terrible food at this place in our experience. Oh yea, and I also ordered a hard shell beef taco that was absolutely flavorless. It was like dried up beef or some would call it cardboard. Don’t disappoint yourself by going here.

This place makes me laugh. I’ve been coming here for years just for sheer convenience. I’ve lost track at this point on whether this place is MXM or Santana’s. Talk about an identity crisis. Anyway, this place is the home of the one pound California burrito as they so proudly display on their menu board. If this burrito is one pound, then the other places I go to must serve two pound burritos and at a better price point. The last time I ordered a California burrito from here, which was a few weeks ago, the OTD cost was $ 7 bucks(with added sour cream). Today, it was $ 8.08. That’s a one dollar increase. Ridiculous. My last visit for sure. Place has always been mediocre, at best. Cotixan is down the street and you can get a cali burrito with a drink for $ 6 bucks.

I’m gonna say they probably have the best California Burritos in town, and thats a bold and brazen statement! I think that by adding guacamole and using the green“chillanga” sauce that you have to ask for, you end up with a unique and tasty CB but not too big where you go immediately into a food coma. You can easily eat a whole one by yourself so don’t share!

This place has HORRIBLE customer service! Come here often for Mexican food. Received a disgusting tostada bathing in water. When I returned it, the ignorant«manager» stated she couldn’t give me my money back without my receipt(I had the grill ticket) and that there was no water in the package. I told her I wasn’t leaving without my reimbursement and attempted to show her the disgusting soggy mess on my phone. She completely ignored my picture and gave my money back. Not once did I get an apology, only accusations and rudeness. Screw this place and the employees

Was expecting a bean, cheese and rice burrito from Roberto’s on Morena… inexplicably my wife stops at this place… bean(check), cheese(check), rice(uncooked and crunchy)…WTF?

Worst breakfast burrito ever. I use to love this place coming here forever. Ordered buenos Dias with extra egg and got the smallest little burrito. Couldn’t believe it.

Do not go to this place if 1) you want decent Mexican food, and/or 2) you want your order to be correct. We moved to Bay Park a few weeks ago and were looking for some convenient, good Mexican food. The first experience was good in terms of the food, but they forgot to include a few items on our order, so we drove back to get them, and figured it was an isolated problem. The 2nd and 3rd trips were the same, so we soon learned to check our order before driving off. They miss something EVERYSINGLETIME. To boot, the last time I ordered carne asada tacos, they tasted like rotten fish and our son’s chicken quesadilla also tasty fishy. It was disgusting and I will never go back to this place.

Seems like there are definitely good days and not so good days here. I have come to this location before and have really liked the horchata, and my boyfriend always gets the California burrito. Came here for a quick dinner. I got the achiote chicken burrito and my boyfriend got the California burrito. We also ordered an horchata. The horchata was a bit off as it tasted a bit grainy and not as sweet as we have had it before. The California burrito has definitely been better(juicier and flavorful meat) before. This was the first time in awhile that I ordered the achiote chicken burrito– it wasn’t bad at all, I just feel like I’ve remembered it being better. The food overall is hit or miss. The drive thru was pretty busy, but the inside restaurant didn’t have too many people. I do like that they have quite a bit of variety in the salsa bar, I definitely like mixing the salsas.

I’ll be honest… I’m a little confused by the annual name change from Santana’s to Fresh MXN and now back to Santana’s. The food is good and relatively inexpensive. Check em out. Let me recommend the La Paz burrito — it’s bomb!

Best burritos in the world. I try and stop here on each of my San Diego trips. My last trip I finally had the Buenos Dias Burrito and it couldn’t have been more delicious.

Seriously one of the BEST fast food joints I know. All we have in Hawaii is Taco Bell, and Taco Bell has got nothing on this place. All we got and all we needed to get was the carne asada fries. It was amazing! I don’t know if it’s authentic or not, most likely not being it’s fast food. But these fries were so much better than what I’ve ordered at Mexican restaurants back home in Hawaii. The ingredients were also in perfect portions. You didn’t have too little meat, too much sour cream, or too much lettuce. Portions were on point. And, they really do fill up that take-out container. They are definitely not stingy with the amount they give. Oh, and don’t forget to order a cup of horchata. I was told by my friends that it’s not the best horchata out there. But I did enjoy it very much being it my very first time drinking it.

MXN was originally called«Santana’s» a few years ago. the California burrito is still good, but they were bigger back during the Santana’s days… those were the good ol’days… With a taco shop every other block in San Diego selling a California burrito, MXN needs to step up its game. We came solely out of convenience, and we might try it again, but our taco shop dollars usually go to Cotixan or Vallarta Express.

Smallest California burrito ever! Not worth $ 7 Too any French fries & they weren’t even cooked. Half of them were either hard & undercooked or really soggy & oily. No bueno. So pieces of meat were pink. Red & green salsas were both disgusting. They both smelled funny too. My friend only managed to eat about half since she was hungry.(She was drunk) lol I took one bite to try & decided I didn’t want any more. Would I recommend? No. They were fast at the drive they & the guy was nice so that’s what the 1 star is for. :)

use to come here all the time– because the food is amazing. Usually when i am done eating– I’ll always finish my drink– pop open the lid– and proceed to snack/suck on ice. When I opened the lid, there is a dead fly. Makes me want to vomit– disgusting and careless– never going back.
