First United Methodist Church of San Diego

This church has literally changed my life– warm and friendly community, great children’s program and wonderfully thought provoking sermons from Minister Craig Brown.

Went to this church with my mom for a Christmas Eve service. My mom had been in a serious accident a couple months prior and was still recovering, so she had casts and was on crutches.
The people at this church — pastors included — were giving us some of the nastiest, dirtiest looks I’ve ever seen. The service was packed, and in spite of her hobbling on her crutches, no one would make room for her and instead side-​eyed her. So disgusting.
We found an empty spot toward the front of the service, and as soon as we sat, a DEMONIC old lady seated behind us informed us the seats were for the choir (who was currently on stage performing). According to the program, they were on their first song and would be up on stage for 5 songs, so we felt we had ample time to enjoy the seats before moving to another spot (especially with my mom’s difficulty moving around). Not so. The evil old lady behind us proceeded to maliciously and violently hit me with her Bible (!!!) over and over again. She was literally hitting me with the Bible with all her strength. On Christmas Eve. While I was with my heavily injured mom.
I’ve been to many great churches. To be perfectly honest with you, I go to church to enjoy positive, uplifting experiences and inspirational sermons. The Bible is to be read for inspiration, not an object to attack people with for no apparent reason on Christmas Eve. This church feels like its members are very hateful and negative.
The Christmas Eve pageant/​show itself was okay. A little overhyped and bland, but a cute thing to see for the night before Christmas. I liked that they brought out all the Biblical costumes, and did a late night candle lighting vigil. But again, the environment feels too hostile for my liking. And certainly, I didn’t enjoy being attacked with a Bible.

I have loved being a part of this wonderful community. Everyone has always been so friendly and welcoming.
They have many styles of worship from a lovely traditional service with a great choir and church organ to more informal services with folk or rock music.
There is a lot of outreach to the community and I feel I can really do some good here.
It has wonderful programs for every age from babies to K-​6, middle school, high school, up to and including seniors.

Love this church. It is by far the most welcoming, uplifting church in San Diego. I’m so happy to have found this church, and am glad to be raising my boys going to Sunday School.

I attended the annual Christmas service this year and it was phenomenal from start to finish. Great fellowship which included a large gathering of people, a full orchestral choir, and a poignant sermon which was fitting for Christmas day. A nice reminder of the true meaning of Christmas, which has nothing to do with gifts and commercial spin.

Great atmosphere! Linder hall is a great place to hold events and the church was very helpful with that. It’s a wonderful church and very pretty too. Their staff are all so friendly and very kind at heart. I went to a dance last night here and it was amazing how they treated us with respect. If you ever come to San Diego and want to find a church this one’s it!!!

This place is chocked full of the kind of Christians you never hear about on the Fox News channel. Loving, open-​minded, kind and humble.
There are traditional and contemporary services, Wednesday night vesper’s service, tons of great classes, and so many other ways to get involved. Wanna feed the poor? There is a food ministry! Wanna tutor inner-​city kids? There is a tutoring ministry! Wanna serve some other need in San Diego? First church has got the connection.
