Had lunch here today. Service was pretty bad. We were seated promptly, however, everything else was slow. Our sever Jenn had a nice demeanor, but she just wasnt a good server. She took our order and was nice enough, but she just was not attentive. Food took forever to come out and the manager had to bring it. You could tell it had just been sitting because it wasnt even piping hot. We were here to celebrate our bosses birthday and when he put his card out to pay the bill, we asked Jenn not to accept it as we were going to pay for him. This request seemed to really frazzle her. She said she didnt know what to do and still took his card. One of our group ended up following her to the cashier booth so that we could pay and not have his card charged. It was just weird! Also, there was no offer of a bday dessert and she didnt even tell him happy bday! Our group eats here often for birthdays and what not and today was just not good. Im giving 2 stars and not one because the salad and meatball I had were good. But service was terrible.

Thanks Abigail for your excellent service. My ½ pizza was totally awesome with anchovies, while keeping hubby’s side free of anchovies. Great meal with your small antipasto salad! Thank you for making our dining experience positive! You are awesome! Thanks, Renee & Bert

I’ve been eating Filippi’s pizza since about 1968, it’s the first pizza I can remember eating and it’s never disappointed me. My whole family loves their pizza. It’s a great family run business that has grown up over the years but still has the small business neighborhood restaurant feel. Great job guys!

For as long as I’ve been in San Diego, the Filippi’s line of restaurants seem to be synonymous to our city. It’s a go-to local pizza restaurant with an affordability/value in the high side. I bounce back between this location and the Mission Gorge location most and it’s safe to say the consistency is good between the two. We typically start off with a Antipasti salad which has salami, Italian ham, green olives, black olives, onions, and beets on top of a clean and crisp handful of iceberg lettuce. Its a nice way to start your meal especially coupled with the warm bread served promptly upon seating. Spaghetti pasta and their meat sauce or meatball option is very good. The sauce isn’t your run of the mill and it does indeed taste like fresh tomatoes were used. We typically get a large pizza — the one with pepperoni, sausage, onions, and optional anchovies. The cheese is what I like — thickly layered gooey and mildly chewy mozzarella. The service is very good here. Pleasant table servers and attentive. We’ll keep coming back.

I’ve had great experiences with this store! Great service, kind fun staff. I am give my review based I just got off the phone w/mgr named Tony. But I’ll say this the store in Chula Vista on broadway sincerely needs to get back to work. Honesty $ 1.75 for extra sauce when my order was $ 28.00 it’s pety folks. That then the pizza it self wasn’t even saucy to the end of the crust. That and atmosphere seemed sad, nobody smiling. Coming from Chicago home of the double decker pie I’ll still stop on by but may consider making Clairmont Mesa our go to store.

I had dinner at this restaurant last night with my family(19 people) because they charge tip in automatic in big groups, the service was horrible. They forgot about orders, my husband was the last one eating, when everybody was done eating. The waitress did not offer refills… really bad service. I don’t feel like going back to this location again.

Great pizza and service! We loved the Margherita, Alfredo pizzas, the fresh garlic bread and antipasto salad. The toppings on the pizza were just right and the cheese is awesome. The kids also loved the spaghetti. We had a great party for our son and everyone loved the food, and service was excellent! Our awesome servers helped make recommendations for the food choices and quantity to order so it was a great help!

Tonight was one of those nights when traffic was so horrendous, I just needed an oasis to rest. Thank you Ashley for your outstanding service. The beer was great, and the lasagna even better! Regards, UB

Used to live around the corner from this place and I haven’t really gone back as much as I would like to since. After some errand the other day I decided to stop by and grab a bite. Ashley behind the bar remembered me and the things I usually order. She mentioned that there were a few new things on the menu since I had been there last and based on what I usually order I would really like a couple of them. Since it had been a while I decided to stick to my usual order but I glanced at a couple of things and will make it a point of going back soon.

Came here with some co workers for a going away celebration. They seated us in a big room for ourselves. We were a group of 10. We were seated and our server came in and gave us our menus. Our server was rude and seemed like he didn’t want to be there asking everyone«what you want» he didn’t even give us time to go over the menu or ask if we had any questions. We order our food and our server suddenly switches to a female server who was great! Now it’s time for our food which took forever! The male server ends up forgetting(don’t know how) 2 of my co workers orders. Please explain when he went one by one??? The female server apologizes(which it wasn’t her fault) and states that it will take anther 45−1hr min to replace the orders. My co workers end up leaving and head over to Jack in the box smh because they couldn’t wait any longer. The food was ok. Had the calzone but the service was def not on par.

We were there last week as part of a large party. We had reservations for the back room, which was ready when we got there. There was probably close to 30 of us, so service was pretty good for such a large number of people. We just ordered a pizza and garlic bread. The salads though looked amazing! Our server was nice and tried to be on top of it all. I’ll admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of the sausage used on the pizza. That aside it was pretty good. The garlic bread was so good! The bread with melted cheese on top even better. Not sure why this place is only rated 3 stars, it was packed when we were there! I’d definitely give this place another try.

I attended dinner on 11÷21÷15 with my friends and family for my birthday, ordered plenty of food as the seven of us, clearly stated in the beginning of dinner there would be 4 different checks. We were sat in Ashley’s section that night. We did not order beef ravioli, was argued with by the waitress that we did order the ravioli and she would not take the plate away! SO we took the plate and later paid for it. Why are you arguing with a customer? Drinks were NEVER refilled, plates were not cleared, «she said I do not like to reach in front of people» Then WHY are you a waitress??? Then, we got the ONE bill, we sat at the table to make it clear and made it easy. We asked her to split it up. She came back with 2 checks, one was incorrect and we paid for the other. Waitress took 35 minutes to clear things up but did not clear things up, we just made it easy! Then, I got my bill, it was finally correct at $ 54, my slip came back with my card at $ 84 and we were upset, she apologized and said that the batch that night would not close out and charge the card the $ 84 but the $ 54. We left in dis belief that the service we got was a nightmare! Dinner and a show? I called the next day after seeing in my account was a charge of $ 84! I spoke with a Javier(who claimed to be the chef and a manager stand in), he was aware of the employee’s problems and would have a GM call me Monday and that it would be taken care of. Today is 11÷23÷15, 6pm rolls around and I call them because I did not get a call. My call was transferred 5 times by asking, «how can I help you?», «Yes, Javier is here», «sorry, he is not here» and«we do not have a GM tonight» WITHATTITUDE! I was told that the GM would be called to come into the store for my refund and she would call me back(Jamie). An hour and a half later and I have not received a call back. Delicious food what a disastrous nightmare, not worth it! Just filed a complaint with the BBB as it is not just about the money, it is the integrity the crappy customer service, the waitress that is employed and can’t do computer math and now the bird brains that answered the phone, lied and no GM watching the class act!!!

My office ordered a staff lunch for all of us from this place, I have to say it was pretty good. I ordered the manicotti, and although I wasn’t a fan of the dryness of the cheese stuffing, the melted cheese on top was on point. Also wish the tomato sauce wasn’t so chunky, but maybe that’s just because I’m not a fan of tomatoes and will only eat tomato sauce practically puréed. Although the food wasn’t totally wow, I bet it’d be better if I actually ate it hot and fresh at the restaurant rather than after sitting out a while at the office.

I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid. Probably the best Italian food I’ve ever had. Food quality was excellent. Service was superb. Mozzarella sticks were amazingly filled with cheese. And had good choices of beer. Would recommend to anyone :)

Went there with a group of four people so we split some appetizers and a pizza. The server was very engaged and made sure that we always had beer. The coconut shrimp and garlic bread appetizers hit the spot. They also brought out house bread before the pizza came out. The pizza was great! The crust was on the thicker side and the toppings were all under the cheese. The meats and cheese were of high quality. I will go back to try many of the different pizzas that they have to offer.

First of all, most of the workers here don’t know how to greet you. They’ll stare at you walk in and when you’re finally waiting at the front counter, they would say something. For a place thats half empty, it also takes them a few minutes to seat you. Finally when we left, there were about 5 employees behind the front counter doing random things, and not a single person said«bye» or «thank you» Customer service is slow and sad. Food: We shared between four people because we weren’t that hungry. Filippi’s Family Combo (Spaghetti, Ravioli, and Lasagna) I was soooo shocked to find that they put all of it mixed together on one single plate. It was like a kid just slapped everything together. There was absolutely no presentation what so ever. You got the ravioli sitting on the bottom, got the lasagna sitting on the side, and the spaghetti tossed all on top and covering everything. It was a big mush of everything together. And there was no flavor to anything. We also ordered meatballs on the side for everyone which, of course, was an extra charge. At least the meatballs were large in size, but very flavorless and tasted like recooked frozen meatballs. They are definitely not fresh meatballs. The Works Medium Sized PIzza Th pizza had a ton of cheese on it, and a generous amount of toppings. But as soon as you pull a slice out, everything sticks to the whole pizza and all your cheese and topppings want to fall off. The pizza itself is very dense and chewy. It was also like eating pizza dough that was not fresh. Overall, I assume this place is decent, but for only people who don’t go out to eat as much and havn’t experimented with many new restaurants. Those people who go to the same restaurant every week, or every month, or every special occasion and don’t know what else to eat out there in the world. This place sucks.

I’ve never been to any Filippi’s Restaurant other than the original location in Little Italy, which I love. However, it was very convenient to visit the Kearny Villa store today, and I’m glad I did. My two college friends and I arrived at noon, straight up, and found the parking lot to be full. Fortunately, a spot opened up and we took it. As one would expect, the place was doing a great lunch business. The interior is nothing at all like the Little Italy store. It is a more generic pizza house style, no wine bottles or cheese counter or Italian food store in sight. Plenty of occupied tables, and despite the crowd, the restaurant is quiet enough for normal conversation. My meal consisted of the personal pizza($ 7.95) and a side salad for a buck more. I opted out of a soft drink, since at $ 2.95, the price struck me as too steep. My «works» pizza was delicious, sized right with a diameter of seven inches. It was served hot, perfectly cooked, and had a nice amount of meat, cheese and other toppings. There are five or six versions of this excellent pizza listed on the lunch menu. It was a tough choice. I thought the salad was an extremely good deal for a dollar, a nice-sized Caesar, with a super tasty dressing and the usual croutons. I’ll get it every time, it’s that good. OK, there was a bit of a wait for our food, maybe 35 – 40 minutes. I think this was due to my friends both ordering from the regular menu, not the lunch menu. Our server was very attentive, and kept the soft drink glasses and water glasses full. A good experience, and Yay! I’m(still) a fan.

I came here one night for dinner and I would have gladly gave it 2 stars, but since then I’ve enjoyed lunch with some coworkers and will gladly bump it up to a 3. They have a great little lunch special with personal pizzas, and Italian sandwiches for about $ 11. I had the personal pizza, caesar salad, and a side meatball, which was not $ 11 because I’m a fat a$$! haha. The pizza was on point, perfectly cooked with lots of sauce, and the caesar was crispy, creamy and spicy. Lastly, the meatball was my favorite, it was about the size of a softball and came with lots of sauce. I can’t complain anymore! *Service is ehhhh, mediocre, but it’s a good middle of the road Italian joint that is better than an Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill. Check it out for lunch homies!

Filippi’s is one our very favorite restaurants and we often order pizza for pick up(since our three young children lack the ability to behave in a restaurant). We live in Serra Mesa, so sometimes we order from the Friars road location. But, this review is for the newly renovated and completely redesigned Kearny Mesa location. The façade is still the same, but wow the inside has been updated fantastically! Some changes include: ~ New higher ceilings ~ Newly located and rebuilt restrooms ~ New bar added ~ Brand new kitchen ~ More seating ~ Same great menu ~ Same great taste!
