Filippi’s Pizza Grotto

Oh my God what a pizza. ⁷⁄₈^th cheese and toppings and ¹⁄₈ bread which is good because bread makes you fat. And get a carafe or two of Chianti with it!!!

If it’s your first time here, order their lasagna and a glass of their Chianti Bellagio. You will be impressed! Lasagna is not extremely heavy like other Italian restaurants. This place can be casual but also romantic depending on where you sit haha. Parking is FCFS street parking so plan it out. :)

Jessica was AMAZING! (: Best restaurant experience in a while. She was very sweet, attentive, awesome and knew what she was doing. Great experience! I will definitely be back.

Nice setting and the pizza is always fresh and so good! I got the large special pizza and stuffed me and two of my friends. Good amount of food for the price

Nice, family friendly Italian restaurant with a low key, casual atmosphere. Staff was attentive and efficient. Pizza was delicious.

I always get a pepperoni and sausage pizza and I swear the pizza weighs at least 3 pounds. Great tasting pizza too

Tonight I ordered a large pizza for pick up. Came home and served the pizza to the family. After taking a bite, it was apparent that it was not the pizza I ordered. I had to return back to Filippi’s to pick up the correct order. I asked for a coupon but was told that because the first pizza that returned had slices removed that they could not offer any compensation.
I am disappointed at the customer service tonight. It was disappointing that instead of apologizing for the mix up, blame was placed on me.

Decent pizza, service and its right in the thick of it in Pacific Beach. I do find the tables tend to be a bit too close for their own good and a feeling of being «caved in» by the low ceiling and rather dark interior. If it was a bit more open and lit I would give this more.

The food is subpar at best. I ordered the veal parm dinner with ravioli. The soup was definitely from a can and the salad was absolute garbage. I didn’t touch either of them after the first taste. The staff was nice, yet inefficient. I won’t be coming back.

So yummy. Stopped by here for lunch today. Rode around OB on our bicycles. Had a delicious antipasto salad. Came here years ago on a date before we were married. Loved bringing our son back to the beginning. He loved his pizza

Not sure where to start here. Understand that my grading scale for pizza is tough — from NY — so my pizza standards and requirements are high…
I stopped in for a slice of pizza and a soda. The place is old-​school Italian restaurant (needs updating, but I don’t include that in my review rating). The pizza is really dough-​y with TONS of cheese, very little to no sauce. In short, no real flavor.
To be honest, I took two bites, had my server box it for me and I left. My server was really friendly and attentive, pretty much the only thing positive about my experience here.

Excellent service. EXCELLENT food. That’s my review. It was that good. Now my review is too short to be posted. Let’s see, the garlic bread was amazing. The lasagne had a unique presentation but still tasted very good. And the pizza was good. Definitely recommended when in the mood for
Italian and or pizza ;)

Pizza was delicious.
Staff was friendly.
They also offer bread and butter while you ‘re waiting.
They’re knowledgeable about the menu.
The wait time is a little long because they are right next to the beach.

They have done this with my
mom too. She asked for
crispy bacon and they said
we don’t have bacon but we
do have Canadian bacon.
Um she wanted bacon so she
got Canadian bacon instead.
HMMMM!

Superb friendly staff. Very attentive and they make you feel like family. Best pizza I’ve ever had. Sensational cheese that exudes quality. I also love the Anti Pasta Salad (enormous). The italian pasta items are also amazing. Everything I’ve had has been exceptional. If your a meatball lover (isn’t everyone) this is the place for you.
If you get a chance to go to the Little Italy location it is a truly unique experince.
I can’t get enough of this place.

Let’s just say we got sick once at this location. Beach towns seem to be that way, unless you eat at the bad places in beach towns, or are used to that. Yuck.

UPDATE: Last night, we returned for a great pizza. It seems hit or miss at this location. I like the Little Italy one the best; more to look at. I didn’t get it with Canadian bacon this time.
Even though they don’t offer bacon as a topping (my favorite, and who doesn’t like bacon?), they do offer CANADIAN BACON, which is what I ordered the night we got sick. Just don’t order the Canadian bacon at this location.
There is only one suggestion to management –please, please, please offer bacon toppings– SALES WILL DOUBLE, TRIPLE, OR MAYBE EVEN QUADRUPLE!!! Who doesn’t like bacon? NO ONE. LOL.

After a long afternoon of walking in PB with some friends we all started to get hungry. It was 3:00PM so it was too late for lunch and too early for dinner. We decided to get a snack to hold us over before going out to dinner later that night. What did we crave? Pizza. I opened my Unilocal app and saw there was Filippi’s right next to us so we went for it.
The decorations here are super tacky in an endearing kind of way. The four of us got a medium sized pizza so we could each have a slice or two. It came out piping hot and was just what we were craving. The pizza was good, but nothing to write home about. In fact, if I had it for dinner I’d probably be kinda disappointed but it was a great snack. The crust, sauce, and cheese didn’t really blend as one piece. It was more like cheese and sauce on an delicious pizza-​focaccia crust. The crust was pretty darn good.
Other than pizza, it looked like a pretty traditional Italian menu. I wouldn’t go back for a meal considering other options in the area but it was in the right place at the right time for a pizza craving.
