The Festival of Sail is an annual event of Tall Ship exhibition and exploration. This event is produced by the San Diego Maritime Museum and generally runs the three day Labor Day Weekend every year. There are a few things that make this event mandatory for families and solo artists alike. The first reason is that the admission to this event is about half of what the normal rates of entry are to the museum area. There’s also a bevy of new ships for you explore that aren’t normally in port so you get a lot of «cannon bang» for your buck. They also have a free vendor area with tickets, solar salespeople, and about 10 different shave ice/slush vendors. Add in a few Pirate re-enactors and you have yourself a fun festival. For those seeing an immersive experience you can buy tickets to various boat rides and experiences like a cannon battle in the bay. Tips Parking — if you’re not lucky enough to find it on the street, it can be found for about 10 bucks a few blocks up on Ash. Cheaper if you are willing to walk farther north. — Give yourself plenty of time. There are a lot nooks and crannies to explore on each ship. We were there for three hours and didn’t get to see all of the ships. — Wear earplugs if your sensitive to loud sounds or have a heart condition. The cannons are quite loud. Negative — The stamping of the passport books was insane. Soo disorganized. I would just cut this out of next year’s event.
