Elixr Wax Bar – Normal Heights

After my five star experience with Christine at the Midway location, I decided to buy the gift card deal they were having during Black Friday. I needed a Brazilian, it was a busy Friday and Christine was on vacation. This is a five star wax bar so I thought let me go with whoever is available. I think I got Alicia/​Alyssa (?) blonde hair. She was super super friendly and I felt comfortable with her immediately. This was my third time ever getting a Brazilian. So I’m still a bit new to it all. As she was waxing, she noticed the wax was too hot, so she had to cool it off every time she applied it. She told me if it’s too hot, it won’t rip off the hair. She seemed very knowledgeable so I didn’t question her. She worked super fast. At one point my legs were shaking, I couldn’t hold the butterfly position any more. She commented on it, I told her I couldn’t hold, but she said hang on a bit more she was practically done. I hung on, but wished I could have stretched a bit. Christine let me stretch during her waxing, but since it was a busy Friday I just let it slide. As I said, Alicia, was super friendly and made me feel comfortable. I didn’t really pay attention to details since I still consider myself a newbie. She was done so fast, I was glad it was over, and I was on my way. When I got home and went to the bathroom, I had remnants of wax still stuck to my bottom and my panties. I was so bummed! I thought oh well, she was having a hard time with the wax being too hot, it’s just a little mistake. Then I took a look, there was still hair. Not a lot but enough to be disappointed. In the next coming days, my hair grew back so fast and furious, I felt like I shaved. And it was all ingrown too. This experience was so unlike my first with Christine. I don’t want to dock points as the experience was great. But the results aren’t worth paying for. My Brazilian didn’t even last a day. I don’t think it was Alicia’s fault but she should have gotten her wax at the right temperature. It’s her job. I don’t want to put her down. It was a very busy day and she must have just gone too fast. It might just have been an off day for her. But next time I’ll wait for Christine. Sh

I have been going to Elixr wax bar for a couple years now and have always seen Rachael for all of my services! She is such a kind and sweet person and she makes you feel so comfortable on the table. (Which was great for me when I got a first Brazilian a couple years ago)! Elixr wax bar is seriously the best! I highly recommend it for ALL wax services! And if you are going to the one on Adams Ave. I also HIGHLY suggest Rachael! She’s the best!

Got a Brazilian for the first time today! It hurt WAY less than I expected. Alicia was amazing! I was anticipating feeling very self conscious but she made me feel extremely comfortable right away and I had a great experience. I felt like her methods caused the pain to be as minimal as possible.
Price: $ 30 on Thursdays for students!
Wait time: Made an appointment for 2:40, got helped right away and was done by 3:00!
Customer service: 5 stars! The whole time Alicia gave me tips and told me exactly what she was doing so that I knew what to expect and how to breathe and prepare myself. I didn’t use a numbing cream before hand but I did take an ibuprofen about 30 minutes before my appointment.
Great experience!

After finding a great Groupon offer I decided to give this place a try after searching for a new salon to go to after being out of state for 2 years. the appointment process was easy, every girl I have scheduled an appointment with has been very welcoming and kind… I don’t have one go to girl. any time I have had to cancel or reschedule, I am met with understanding instead of attitudes. this place is clean, simply decorated and quaint. I plan on continuing to come here for waxing services for as long as they’re in the neighborhood.

I started going here for services after I moved to the area last July. Was previously visiting a salon in the university heights neighborhood. I was paying an increasingly higher fee for a less skilled technician.
I love Alicia! I have only seen her so far, but she does a fantastic job — above and beyond the other salons I’ve tried. I also love that they focus on doing a few services really well, and are not constantly trying to up sell you on products or services, whether you need them or not — this kind of customer service keeps me loyal :)

I love Elixr Wax Bar– Normal Heights! The shop is conveniently located right off the freeway, easy access and parking in the back. The shop is cute, quaint, and very clean. Alicia is my absolute favorite!!! She defiantly knows her stuff when it comes to Brazilians! She always makes me feel very comfortable and is easy to talk with. I always leave Elixr Wax Bar happy and satisfied with Alicia’s work!

So I came here on a random lunch break with one of the girls from my office & I am glad that I did! I was referred to Alicia & she was amazing! I appreciated that she asked me what I’ve had done, what I liked about it, & what I was looking for this time. During the whole process she was very concerned with the quality of her work & she didn’t mind my mindless rambling. I tend to talk so I don’t focus on her next move & she exchanged conversation like we’ve know each other for years! This was honestly the best wax I’ve had in San Diego and it lasted me an incredibly long time (over 6 weeks)! I will be visiting again when I am home for the holiday’s from school. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for wax services.
P.S– they have a student discount on Thursday! Yay!

Never before have a I had a RELAXING eye brow wax-​but there’s a first time for everything! It was like a mini facial, and my eye brows have never looked better-​they are PERFECT. Such amazing service, I’d give them 10 starts if I could!

I’m definitely an Elixr fan! And have been for over 2 years now (ever since I moved to San Diego, and even when I lived in north County). I’m afraid I can’t go anywhere else.
Angie is the best. It took me quite a few sessions with other ladies to finally find the right fit, and I’m super glad I found her. She makes the entire experience comfy and light-​hearted. She knows all of my preferences, and she does everything perfectly.
I prefer weekday evening appointments, compared to weekend appointments (Too rushed and crowded, for me). No one ever pushes products, phew! I’m bummed the maintenance prices are going away, since I go about just over every other month. But, without a doubt, the price and value are almost too good to pass up (and yet, I’m still undecided!)
The space is clean, hip, and… did I say clean? Music selection is on point. Parking can be a bit tricky sometimes, but its very convenient to the 15, so no complaints there.

I love Elixr! It’s only a couple blocks away from me and I am always fit in last minute when I am on the go! Although, I do recommend booking in advance to get what you want! Everyone there is so sweet and parking isn’t bad at all! My brows always look amazing after I get them done!

I absolutely love this place! There’s a lot to be said for the fact that all they do is waxing — it means that they are experts in all things waxing, from eyebrows to bikini lines. My usual is a full-​Brazilian… and they’ve never gone wrong. All the gals have a gentle hand, but my favorite is Christine. She’s fun to talk to, has a great personality and is super gentle, making the whole experience comfortable. They’re unrolling a new loyalty program, basically a membership — you pay $ 35 a month for membership and get a «free» service, including Brazilian. A monthly Brazilian for $ 35? Can’t go wrong with that! I’m ready to sign up.

I seriously love this place. I was initially terrified to get a Brazilian but had a groupon 3 years ago so decided to try it out for my wedding. The staff made me immediately comfortable & the experience was almost fun, rather than the terror I had imagined. Since then, I’ve stuck with them through many staff changes, name changes, & location changes, but I have NEVER been disappointed. In the past year, Angie has been waxing me, & she’s great. So fast & about as painless as it gets, & she’s incredibly friendly & personable.

I just had a male Brazilian with Christine and was great. It was the most painless and thorough waxing I’ve had. Christine was also very professional and made things comfortable. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

I’ve been going to elixr wax bar for almost 5 years (on and off) and I’ve been through all the name and location changes but there’s a reason why I follow them and continue to go every month or so. The staff is incredibly friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I get my brazilians and bikini waxes with Angie (she’s the best) and recently got my eyebrows done with her too and it was such a relaxing experience. I am very low maintenance when it comes to my eyebrows but I’ll definitely be going back there for the 30 min spa-​like brow session. Plus I came out looking fabulous, even with no makeup on! ;) I recommend all the way!

I went to this location in March and had a really bad experience. The staff, Alicia, was kind of rude to me and did not make me feel welcomed. I asked for the ‘numb it’ and explained I was very sensitive. She told me they were out and that I «would be fine.» While waxing me, she was rough and did not apply pressure on the area after each pull. This made my experience much more painful. Afterwards, I looked in the mirror and had a bunch of little white pieces of whatever she used on me to remove the wax, all over. I had to take them off myself with a wipe, she did not do this. The area was then irritated for about 2 weeks and the burning sensation continued for these 2 weeks. I exfoliated as always and got ingrown hairs right away after this visit, which was unlike the previous times I had received a wax. Overall, not a good experience for me. It made me stay away from waxing for a while and I just barely decided to give Elixr another try at the point loma location again. My most recent experience was way better and I will return to the Point Loma location. BUT my experience at the Adams location did not make me want to return and I did tell my friends and family to stay away from that location and Alicia.

I’ve been coming here for brazilians for almost a year and I leave extremelyyyy happy every single time. Energy is always super fun and the entire staff is very friendly and welcoming. My usual girl is Angie, never ever fails me. Super easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable before I even stepped through the door lol. Definitely will become a friend if you see her. I’ve had waxes done by Melyssa and Rachael? As well and all of them pay close attention to detail and make sure they get every single hair.
If you’re looking for a really comfortable cute spot, look no further. :)

Angie is absolutely amazing! You’ll feel instantly comfortable with her, regardless of how «experienced» a wax-​ee you are. Her waxes are thorough and as painless as this sort of thing can be.
And there’s parking! PARKING!
I’ve been to quite a few aestheticians here in San Diego, and Angie/​Elixr is the absolute best in the Normal Heights/​Kensington/​North Park neighborhoods. GO.

I am extremely happy that I found this boutique. I came across this place through Groupon and decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, I am so glad I did.
Going into my appointment I really didn’t know what to expect I was just hoping for the best considering that I was getting a Brazilian wax. In the past I have had bad experiences when it comes to getting waxed down below.
My first impression as I walked in was welcoming, fun and very chic. The wax room was really nice and the lighting was great which is a HUGE deal to me.
My esthetician was/​is Rachel (Hey Girl!) And she is FREAKING AWESOME!!! I have been coming to her for a few months now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. She is a super sweet, pretty, down to earth, could be one of my BFFs type of person lol. Our conversations are never dull. She made my experience the best I ever had ever in life.
I have never left unsatisfied and will continue to come back. This place and Rachel is highly recommended.

Angie is the best! I’ve been coming here for awhile and was seeing Lauren then she disappeared, BUT I am so happy that I have Angie (Don’t ever leave me, Angie!)
She makes you feel comfortable and you’ll feel like you’ve known her forever.

My first time at this wax boutique was a great experience.
First off, the customer service is great. As soon as I walked in the door I was warmly greeted and offered a glass of water. Didn’t take long before I was taken in for my wax.
I’m pregnant (35 wks), and getting waxed while pregnant is not the easiest thing! It hurts since you’re ten times more sensitive. Getting waxed normally (not pregnant), however, is a breeze.
My «waxologist» Rachel G., made my experience as smooth as possible. She was pleasant, made me feel very comfortable, and kept me distracted from the pain with conversation. She would always apply pressure after every wax strip in the extra sensitive areas which helped a lot.
I’m definitely going to book here again with Rachel, post baby of course.
