Great service. Sushi was fresh. Loved that they had craft beer not a norm for sushi restaurants

This sushi is amazing! I got the crunchy roll and my boyfriend had the spicy jalapeño hibachi! We both devoured our plates! If you’re in the mood for sushi, this is the spot.

Went here for the first time about a week ago for lunch on a Sunday. Had some basic/non-specialty rolls that were tasty. Also had lychee sake which was on a special at the time and that was extra tasty. They were playing some dope underground hip-hop when we went, adding to the already stylish décor. Also, wanna send a shout out to our waitress for her efforts after we left. I had forgotten to take my credit card back after signing the check. I hadn’t even realized it until we were outside, had already walked down the block and crossed the street, when the waitress came chasing us down to give me back my card. I only wish I could’ve given her a bigger tip now. I plan on returning.

I tried Ebisu for the first time on my birthday with a couple friends. We got the sixth avenue, charger, caterpillar rolls and mixed sashimi salad. All of the food was excellent and reasonably priced for its quality. Our waiter was also really awesome. We asked him for a few recommendations and he was very nice and helpful. We ordered the lychee sake(and charger roll) with his help and they were excellent choices. Overall, id definitely recommend this place as a top choice. The food, service, and ambiance is excellent for a enjoyable night out!

Ebisu is a swanky sushi bar with high quality fish and lots of interesting rolls and choices. They have some traditional Japanese items such as gobo and standard nigiri. The calamari is lightly tempura-ed and perfectly cooked. Last night I had the best nigitoro I have ever tasted(yes I have been to Ota). Unlike Ota, the atmosphere is more like a upscale nightclub, not uptight and the menu offerings are more creative. I just figured out that there is a lounge in the back. Different music, different décor, full bar and bartender AND you can order sushi there. The bar has a variety of craft drinks and high end whiskey selections as well as rare Japanese beers and sake. It’s like 2 restaurants in one. To find the lounge, walk past the restrooms and turn right… voila… a secret bar and lounge. The lounge is only open Friday and Saturday nights and definitely worth checking out if you’re bar hopping. Instead of greasy fried food you can order sushi until midnight and relax in a cool and mellow atmosphere. 5 stars!

***Sung to Mike Posner’s ‘I Took A Pill in Ibiza’*** I ate some sushi at Ebisu To show my friend I was cool And when I finally got my food, I felt 10 years older But fuck it, it was something to eat I’m living out in SD I drive a Toyota just to prove I’m a real simple baller ’cause I made a million dollars(HA!) And I spend it on girls and sushi ******** OKENDSONG ******** But really, I’m straight up disappointed and slightly embarrassed. My friend brought me here because she moved out of the area and wanted to take me to her favorite sushi joint. I was excited because my friend has great taste when it comes to food and the local food scene in her neighborhood, but when my friend and I came, it was straight up a disappointment. Our server for the night was rarely around so we didn’t know where she really was. Since my friend and I were catching up on life, we took a little bit to order. Apparently, she was in a rush to put in our order because she came around to our table every 2 minutes. We finally made our decision and placed our order. I noticed the small quite space, and annoying loud drunk people which made for a horrible night. I know you can’t control loud people, but it’s common courtesy, and as a business, please cut people off when you feel like they’ve had too much! Tables sat down and got their food, and we sat there and literally watched people eat. A couple sat down at the sushi bar and got their food so fast… 15 minutes later, we finally got our appetizers, which was agedashi tofu and the tuna poppers. I’m so confused. Then about 8 minutes or so later, we got our two rolls that we ordered… it wasn’t the best, but lots of sauce to try to cover the fact that it’s just simple sushi being served. Basically, the two stars given goes to the girl sushi chef behind the bar! Props to being a female sushi chef and kicking ass.

This is by far my favorite sushi spot in San Diego! I go here for date night with my boyfriend almost every Sunday. The waitresses are kind and helpful, the sushi rolls are delicious and creative. The Guava Beer is my boyfriends favorite and I always enjoy the Just Peachy cocktail! I recommend the Friars, Crunchy and H Bomb rolls!

Met some friends for happy hour — well we didn’t really know they had one till we got there but it was a good surprise. They have a pretty good selection of handrolls, actually they selection is quite big. Some are pretty out there and some normal ones you’ll find at most sushi places. Their hot plates are also pretty good and tasty. It’s definitely a everyday sushi bar and nothing special but you will get a pretty good meal. The most interesting part of the meal was the dessert as that was really bizarre — they had this unagi tempura with green tea ice cream that just to me was nasty :) but my boyfriend loved it. i felt that the green tea and the sweet sauce that goes with the unagi clashed. anyway, this was definitely original. Service was great and the waitresses were super friendly and definitely accommodating to all our requests.

Frankly, This place has gotten better. Midori is a master with fish, and adorable on top of that. Her creativity is unbounded, and they use sustainable fish, to boot. Midori has been making sushi since her grandmother showed her how as a little girl. I asked if she got any trouble as a female number one, and she just laughed. She told me that in Japan, it’s becoming incredibly common, and here, they either like her fish or they don’t. By the way, the prices here are incredibly reasonable for the quality and portions. You won’t get any fish here that not in season. You also will learn about some deliciously sustainable fish like Amberjack, that has that fatty Toro mouth-feel without any guilt attached. Midori’s sashimi plates often have elements of Spanish Crudo like EVO kicked up with habanero salt. She dazzled and amazed two of us for a couple of hours, and her touch with a salmon-skin hand roll is not to be believed. She surprised us at the end with banana tempura with vanilla bean ice cream, and we were utterly done. I can’t wait to go back to San Diego and see her and the rest of the Ebisu family again.

After running into a long-time buddy I knew back in the military years, we decided to hit up a sushi joint. We first navigated to one place, and when that didn’t turn out to be an option, we decided on this place. Parking was found inside the lot adjacent to the Jamba Juice. We crossed the street and walked right in. We were immediately given a warm welcome, and we perused the menu was they serves us glasses of water. I decided to go with the rainbow roll, which has a wide variety of seafood on top. Since I was eating lite, I only had that one roll. It was delicious. This place is pretty nicely decorated, maintained well, and run efficiently. I would recommend this place if you’re looking to dine in north SD.

Today was my first time trying this sushi bar, and let me tell you what, probably hands down one of the best sushi spots I’ve ever been to! not even lying, you have to try the tuna tots they were absolutely amazing, the place has been here for about 12 years and the owners are very generous people, I highly recommend checking this spot out.

Whole30 Paleo friendly and very trendy. The blood orange kanpachi, grilled yellowtail collar and sixth avenue rolls are delicious — if you are Paleo, make sure to ask for no ponzu /no Krab and bring your own coconut Aminos!

We were looking for sushi close to our hotel and this place wasn’t a far walk. We tried the Sunny Roll, the Sixth Avenue, the Rising Sun, and one other one that I can’t remember. I loved the fresh taste of the Sixth Avenue, sometimes all the rice weighs you down. The Sunny roll lived up to its name, the flavors were bright but not too much. The Rising Sun was also good. The service was good although the sushi a little slow. There was a large party that was really loud when we were there and that made it hard to hear each other and our server in such a small space.

My husband and I love sushi but since we are from a landlocked state, we never get the freshest of fresh for sushi. Which is why whenever we visit a place near the ocean, we always get sushi! Before arriving to the Hillcrest area I researched places to eat that were within walking distance to where we were staying. This place came up as the highest rated sushi place nearby. I’m glad this place was so close. We walked here for dinner on Saturday night around 8:00. We got a seat at the sushi bar in the back. The sushi artist was friendly and helpful. We tried the feisty jack roll, H. Bomb and uptown special. They were all delicious!

Seem like folks either love this place or hate it. We liked it pretty well. We were a party of three on a Saturday night, so I was surprised we were seated and served as quickly as we were. The ambiance was dark and nice for a Saturday night dinner. I had a yummy Moscow Mule of some kind — Pineapple I think? To eat, I ordered a simple Salmon Nigiri — but also ordered their Salmon and Crispy Kale and it was divine. What a flavor and texture combination! Scottish salmon sashimi with fried kale on top that is dusted with garlic and salt, I believe. It all sits in a bit of chili oil and rice vinegar. I can’t stop thinking about it. My dining companions ordered Sake and some cooked rolls; they seemed happy. I couldn’t really tell over the party in my mouth.
