Too bad this location is closed. It was a gem of spot to go after visiting Sea World since it was usually pretty dead during dinner time. Hmm, maybe that’s why it shuttered it’s doors. This location shares a parking lot with a hotel, so I assume the breakfast clientele would come out in full force — I never showed up to find out. I expect if you’re vacationing you’ll want to go «out» to dinner, hence the lax atmosphere after 4pm. It was also a Du-Par’s *NOT* located in L.A., so you got that unique SD customer service. Food was good and I wish it never went away!

This is part of the hotel, but for a diner in San Diego it’s amazing! The prices and the portions are fantastic. The food is great. The service is awesome. Dessert is the best. I’m sure it used to be better if it was family owned, but I love it. My manfriend works close by at bay city brewing co and we stop there some nights to have dinner together after his long shifts. It’s awesome.

Du-Pars is gone! And so is their delicious food, especially the best pancakes in SD. I had no idea they’d been bought out, until I noticed a couple of clues in their appearance and then received the menu, which was totally different. Since I was already there, I thought I’d give it a try. The pancakes were horrible! Not at all the same. This was confirmed by the server who said they are not allowed to use Du-Pars recipe. So sad, I used to love that place. Will never go again!

This is no longer Du-Par’s. DON“T WASTEYOURMONEY! My dad and stepmom were visiting from out of town yesterday to see my 9 year old nephew perform at Balboa Park. After his stellar performance, my family wanted to grab a bite to eat. Du-par’s has been a favorite for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, at all hours for us. My nephew was quick to tell his Grandma and Grandpa that Du-par’s had the best pancakes in San Diego. No more. I was extremely disappointed when we sat down and didn’t see any of the friendly staff we had come to know. The menu was sparse compared to what it was. My cobb salad was awful! How can you mess up a salad?! They topped it with«rubber» chicken breast. Gross. The pancakes now aren’t the fluffy wonderful tasting delight they used to be. They were served to look like«Mickey Mouse» but tasted as dry as the newspaper on the floor of a mouse cage. My dad’s wrap was tasteless. My mom’s southwest chicken sandwich had the other half of the«rubber» chicken breast that was on my cobb salad and smothered in hot sauce. My dad wanted something sweet to try to save the experience. Unfortunately the pies still look pretty in the case when you walk in, but they aren’t the same either. I ordered a slice of what used to be my favorite … key lime pie. The filling was watered down from what I usually had. While waiting forever for the lackluster meals to be served, my nephew recounted to his grandparents how we had come to Du-par’s late late late one night in the past after being at Scripps urgent care and wanted to do something nice for the doctors and nurses who were having a bad day. After spending a few hours at the hospital, we stopped by Du-par’s and picked up the last 4 pies the had that night and took them back to Scripps. It was after midnight, but fun and felt good. One of the doctors asked, «Where in the world did you find 4 delicious pies after midnight?» and a nurse exclaimed«Du-Par’s, of course!» Nothing was good about yesterday’s visit and as i sit at my kitchen counter this morning writing this review, my nephew said«It’s sad :(We didn’t even get to say goodbye.»

Took my grandparents. Horrible service. Waited over an hour with no refills and no food. Asked about our food they lost our ticket… My grandparents food came out about and hour and twenty minutes later and my food was about 10 minutes behind. They forgot my dinner salad and bread. I had to ask for a refill on my drink and the staff was rude to my grandma. Needless to say I can’t pick dinner places anymore and we’re not coming back here. Sorry

First. NOLONGERDUPAR’S!!! DONTGO! Save yourself! We somehow missed the comically tiny paper sign stating the new name of the restaurant. Don’t expect service, at all. Out of the 6 employees sitting around stuffing their own faces, there was only one employee who greeted us, seated us, got us menu’s drinks, and now I’m starting to think, may have even cooked our meal. After waiting over 30min for our food(we were the only customers) we finally dig in. This is where it gets better, biscuits and gravy? More like English muffin with Alfredo sauce and blueberries for garnish. No, I’m not kidding. Garlic Alfredo sauce smothered the English muffins. Quickly left and will never return.

Run screaming. This is no longer the DuPars you have enjoyed in the past. It has been bought by the Windham Garden hotel and they have abandoned whatever it was that made this place great. I won’t go into too much detail but I will say that even though we were the only table in the place at 3p on a Saturday, we waited an hour after ordering and they messed up literally everything. They eventually fixed the wrong orders but the food quality was so poor, we didn’t eat more than a few bites. The manager came out and apologized. He explained the régime change and comped our entire bill. So that was cool. He said they’ve been having a lot of problems since the changeover and wasn’t certain the DuPars name would even stay. So, sadly, it’s time to write this place off…

I love that this place is 24⁄7. I love breakfast and this is the only thing I’ve tried here. I had two eggs, hashbrowns, toast and one pancake. My waiter was great! This restaurant is very big and open. I like that it’s not ever crowded. They also have an amazing display of pies and other bakery treats.

Southern Pecan Pie is amazing! Got it for my moms birthday able to feed about 12 and a little left over to eat later. Fast service, price was $ 12.99 and got a huge«Homer Simpson» chocolate sprinkle donut for $ 2.50. Good location and hours.

Getting right to it, the restaurant is ‘pretty good’. The food was fine, servings ample. The service was, how shall I say, ‘relaxed’. Just to keep this brief: I read a lot of the reviews, and they cover the gamut. However, a lot of them just gush about the quality, taste, etc. of things. It just wasn’t so. It was good, for sure, but if you eat out regularly at a variety of places, this one is ‘in the middle’.

AWESOMEPANCAKESANDCOFFEEANDSERVICEFROMMYSERVERTALIA! I was in the mood for something sweet and it was after 11 p.m. so I knew my options were limited. I’ve had it in the back of my mind to try out dupars pancakes because after doing a little research, I found out that they don’t serve crappy syrups like Aunt Jemima or log cabins. Instead they serve a premium Restaurant brand of maple syrup that isn’t 100% pure maple but sure tastes pretty darn close to me! I consider myself a syrup snob, turning my nose up at the lousy offerings from typical pancake restaurants like IHOP and Denny’s. I’m so glad I finally found someplace besides my usual favorites, the Hash House, The Café on Park(both in Hillcrest), The Original Pancake House(Kearny Mesa) and the griddle in LA. Yes, I’ve even gone as far as La searching for a decent breakfast place. No longer do I have to drive so far! Dupars serves their pancakes with drawn real butter(exactly the same as fine restaurants serve with lobster and seafood) and warm syrup and every bite was delicious! I also enjoyed their coffee which was very fresh and satisfying and my server, Talia, had a smile on her face and an awesome attitude and provided excellent service from the moment I walked in the door. As a matter of fact, her service was as good if not better than I’ve received at upscale restaurants like Ruth’s Chris and Mortons steakhouse. Du PAR’s is lucky to have her! Anyway over the years I’ve tried a few other things here like the Welsh rarebit and the tuna melt and they have been okay but nothing to write home to mother about. Well I’m about to write home to mother about dupars pancakes, they are that good!

My all time favorite American restaurant. The best pancakes! The ambiance is much better in LA Grove mall. However, I’m very happy they have one here in SD. It is kind of pricey but everything is really good. Hash brown is super crispy! Pies are also very good!!! Kind of surprised that a lot of San Diegans don’t know about this place.

A while back, wifey and I went to go run some errands and drop stuff off at Dick’s Sporting goods. Well, we were hungry and we decided to go to any place around here that was rated decently. Du-par’s was what came up. I didn’t realize it’s the old Baker’s Square that is across from Phil’s barbecue. Had I known that, I’d probably have avoided it. Walking in there, I felt like I walked into a depressing Denny’s. The tables were empty except 2, the workers were fraternizing and obviously ignoring customers as literally every single table was looking around for their server. You see, the restaurant is divided into two parts. The tables I saw filled were on the right, all the servers were on the left, out of sight from the customers. So they were ALL looking for their servers. When we were seated it took us a good 5 minutes to order and then a long time to get any inkling of food. We figure, «Hey we ordered a muffin as part of our meal, why would that take long? Well… Here’s a quote from the quick review I wrote while sitting there: «Just watched and listened to our server give the last blueberry muffin to his friends that just walked in… his friend even protested that he should give it to us since we were waiting. Keep in mind, his friend hasn’t even ordered yet.» Yes, as we were sitting there, 10 minutes AFTER ordering… another person walked in, was seated, and before he even ORDERED, our sever gave him my muffin. He literally had two muffins that were just warmed, walked towards our table, did a double take to his friend, and then gave his friend the muffin. WTF. Salt on the wound? It was the last one. The server assumed we would want a bran muffin instead and brought that. WTF again! We pushed back and said at least give us a cinnamon roll or SOMETHING we want. He said ok. Long story short: Service was terrible Food on the other hand… is another reason to avoid this place. The breakfast food was worse than any other breakfast place I have been to. The«Over Easy» eggs I ordered were sunny side up, the muffin was tasteless and I think undercooked, the cinnamon roll was doughy and tasteless. Basically everything was bad. Bland, undercooked, you choose. I would never come here again unless something or someone forced us to come back. It’s not worth the calories or the time or the gas.

My friend and I have been going to this restaurant for 10 years and our last visit we went for breakfast. We ordered our regular pancakes, hash browns and bacon. When we got our bill it was over $ 60.00??? We asked the very mean waitress who took over an hour to bring our food why our bill was so high and she said their prices went up… For 60.00 I can get a stake at Ruth Chris! So sad to say this place has lost its charm!!!

I’ve had Du-par’s Restaurant & Bakery bookmarked on Unilocal for the longest time because I’m a huge fan of eateries that offer breakfast for dinner … and plus, this restaurant’s open 24/7, so extra points for added convenience. Though I have been to the Phil’s BBQ on Sports Center Blvd. several times already, I never noticed that Du-par’s was right across the street until I went with a friend for dinner on a Friday evening. This Du-par’s shares a parking lot with an adjacent hotel, so we had no problem finding a parking space. The eatery is known for their baked goods made in-house, and I really appreciated that and could tell the difference, not only in our entrees but in the homemade muffins/dessert(more on that later). Here’s what my friend and I ordered: «Bacon, Avocado & Jack Cheese»: My friend loves omelets, and after some debate, she settled on this medley. There was a good amount of Jack cheese oozing from the omelet, and the avocado slices(there had to be at least 3 – 4 of them) were on top of the omelet itself instead of being mushed in/incorporate inside the omelet. I didn’t see the bacon, but she said there was a good amount of bacon inside the fluffy omelet. All omelets are served with golden hashed browns and your choice of toast or a muffin, and my friend opted for the homemade muffin(she chose bran). Now, I’ve definitely experienced bran muffins that are drier and plain, but this one was super moist and buttery … we didn’t even use the butter that came with the muffin! My friend split the muffin with me(it came out before her entrée), and the texture and consistency was amazing. I liked the chewiness of the muffin and the bran taste/texture, but it was also incredibly moist and sponge-like at the same time. The hash browns were on point – golden brown hue, crispy exterior and the potatoes themselves were soft – and the omelet, my friend said, was flavorful with lots of cheese. All omelets are made to order, hence the fresh taste. «Monte Cristo Sandwich»: It’s so rare to find a «Monte Cristo» on eatery’s menus – let alone a really good one – and I was extremely pleased with this Du-par’s version. It featured thick-cut egg bread, sliced ham, turkey, Swiss and American cheese that was batter dipped and fried. It’s dusted lightly with powdered sugar and served with raspberry sauce(I asked for mine on the side). The sandwich is also accompanied by your choice of French fries, fresh fruit, potato salad or coleslaw; I opted for fries. I love how«Monte Cristos» are made differently at different restaurants, and this version is probably one of the heavier ones I’ve tried. The egg bread is thick and the waitress said that the sandwich is actually grilled – not deep-fried – so the exterior is crispy, but the thick bread still retains a spongy, buttery texture. I loved the meat-and-cheese medley, and they definitely didn’t skimp on the cheese. I really liked the bread’s crispy-yet-slightly-soggy consistency, and the fries were right on point — they weren’t really thin, were golden brown and fried just right(not too crispy) for my liking. The sandwich itself is cut into thirds; I ate two of the three pieces and the majority of my fries, but opted to take the last piece home so I could save room for dessert. The sandwich was filling and I think that’s owed to the heavier exterior, but I really liked the bread’s taste and texture with this version. «Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae»: When my friend and I walked into Du-par’s, we were immediately drawn to the variety of baked goods featured in the display case. There were a good selection of pies(whole) in there, as well as larger-than-life brownies and we also saw perfect squares of bread pudding. I noticed the brownies had walnuts, but they also looked extremely fudgy and delicious! When it came time for dessert, we opted to share this sundae, and for $ 8 – 9, it was totally worth it. It comprised the eatery’s homemade, double chocolate brownie topped with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. When asked about dessert recommendations, our waitress told us that if we liked chocolate, this treat was amazing but warned us that it was a very rich and indulgent experience. I have a huge sweet tooth and high tolerance for sweets, so this dessert sounded like it was right up my alley. This had to be one of the best brownie sundaes I’ve ever experienced. My friend and I got ours sans whipped cream, but the sundae was plenty sweet without it! The brownie itself was more cakelike – it was super, super fudgy, and though it had walnuts, the walnut pieces were kept to a minimum and didn’t interfere too much with the heavy, chocolaty texture. I loved how there was chocolate frosting on the brownie’s outer layer for added sweetness. The brownie is definitely a generous slab and it needs every ounce of that vanilla ice cream to balance it out. And, the warm, gooey, thick chocolate syrup added the perfect finish.

This place use to be a Baker’s Square back in the day, but I guess they all went out of business or something. I tried Duparr’s before and didn’t care for the service, but that was quite a couple years ago. Service was good, they sat me right away and got me some good tasting coffee. Looked over the menu and they had some blue plate specials, but I decided to go for the big stack of pancakes. I came here in search of good pancakes and Unilocal reviews steered me here. I ordered a fullstack of pancakes, not knowing how large the order was going to be, I also ordered eggs and turkey sausage. The waitress brought out the food and wow, thats a lot of pancakes. They were stacked five high and were massive. You did not need to add butter or syrup to them really, because they were that good. Best pancakes I’ve ever tasted in my life, I couldn’t finish them all, just too much food. Duparr’s was a great breakfast experience for me, great food and coffee. Good service, the price was a little high though, but it was worth it for those pancakes.
