CHARBEL TAMO is the guy to go to here! He has seriously transformed my color! I’m naturally a dirty blonde and have done so much damage to my hair over the years experimenting with different colors. (Blondes, dark brown, black, purples…) I’ve had hair Extentions and have had so much breakage. He has brought be back to the most gorgeous blonde color and getting my hair back to where it needs to be. He’s seriously the gold mine here in southern Cali. I can’t say enough.

I moved to San Diego in June and a friend recommended the Denise Barrow Salon. I was randomly placed with Charbel and couldn’t have been happier! Charbel did an EXCELLENT job on my color and cut! I have been going to him ever since! Being a former salon owner from the east coast, he is SUPER knowledgable and SKILLED! Don’t wait! Make an appointment with Charbel, you won’t be sorry!

Just moved to the area and Googled salons and found this one by chance. Had my first appointment with Jessica Barrow and I was blown away by how great my hair looked when she was finished! She is an unbelievable talent and super easy going and accommodating. I will definitely be back and I would recommend her highly to anyone looking for a hair stylist.

JUSTINE TURNER is FANTASTIC!!! I went to the Denise Barrow Salon for the very first time one week ago and what a great experience. My Plan: color to get rid of the nasty gray hair, get highlights and get a new hair style. I comfortably expressed my ‘Wish List’ to Justine and she truly listened to me. I have been to far too many hairstylists who’s ego’s far exceed their actual capabilities. Justine is truly a hair wizard … WOW … Justine far exceeded my expectations. This gal knows her stuff! She cut and colored my hair perfectly. My hair is styled and shaped to my face perfect and it looks so much healthier! I absolutely LOVE the highlights. She took her time and made sure that I was happy every step of the way. Oh and I cannot forget to share my favorite part of this process — the washing of my hair — Justine made sure that I was comfortable, that the water temperature was perfect and as she shampooed and conditioned my hair she massaged my scalp … it was heavenly! Plus, I am so excited about ALL the compliments I have been receiving this past week! The next time you are looking to go to a true professional to even touch your head of hair, I highly recommend Justine Turner at the Denise Barrow Salon.

It has taken me 7 years in san Diego to find the right person who understands what my style is, can give me an honest opinion of what hairstyle looks best on me, then make it happen. Peter Nguyen is professional, thoughtful, a perfectionist with talent. I love my new haircut. Peter introduced me to Denise, the salon owner, who was very gracious. I also thought that the boutique was very cool with something for everyone (I found a few things)!
I am so grateful that I have found Peter Nguyen. I am very fussy with my hair. It’s a relief to be in a great stylists hands.

Charbel Tamo is a true professional. I am new to town and was referred to him thru a friend. He did a great job on my hair and I look forward to his ideas moving forward to keep my style looking fresh.

Maryann is the only stylist I’ve found who can give me a great cut AND color that suits me perfectly. I’ve been having her cut my hair for years but about a year ago, after a bad brownish color done by a local stylist and one I thought was good for winter, we went short and we went blonde… and I’ve never gotten so many compliments! In fact, I fly in from Seatlle about every 3 – 4 months for her to «fix me up». Give her a call!

I met Anthony Izzo when I was at the Mayor’s Office several years ago toward the end of college. I grew up a salon baby, and watching my mom cut her clients hair long after she stopped being a salon owner. Anthony really knew what he was talking about and I decided to stop by. I was so glad I did — he’s done color with what is now my favorite product (Wella) and his cuts are great — he doesn’t take off too much and you never have a disaster when trying out something new. We’ve done dry cuts and experimented with my bangs. I left to Los Angeles for 3 years and was ecstatic that he was still working there — and his wife rotates in the same chair. I have referred friends and family to Denise Barrow because of my experience and all have left happy.

Absolutely love Jessica Barrow! Not only is she a sweetheart, accommodating but she’s also talented! I came in with a picture of how I wanted my hair to look. She took the time to listen to me and made me part of the process as she worked on me. By that I mean she showed me exactly what she was going to do and made sure that I was okay with it before she cut. All the while making sure to look at the picture and checking in with me to make sure her work was going to be to my satisfaction. Loved her and the experience of being in her chair! Highly recommend her. She’s not like other stylists who tell you they can achieve the look you want and disappoint in the end. Will definitely come back to see Jessica the next time I’m in San Diego!

CHARBEL is AMAZING! Let me tell you why. I came to San Diego in August to get a blowout for my neice’s bridal shower and got lucky enough to meet Charbel. His talents and gifts were so evident that day that I booked an appointment for my trip to the wedding and decided I wanted him to color my hair and give me a new cut. I knew he would do a great job!
Charbel did an amazing job improving the color and highlights I had before and needed improvement as I had lots of different color shades. Charbel understood what would look best on me even though we just met! He is an artist and gifted stylist. The color and low lights look great! I got so may compliments. After a great haircut and color I came back the next day to have him style my hair in a beautiful «up-​do» (see profile picture).
I can’t say enough about his work. I wished I lived in San Diego, Charbel would be my permanent stylist. Every time I visit San Diego I will include a visit to Charbel for an update to my hair. I have a feeling I’ll be in San Diego more often. If you live in the area, lucky you! You will love what he can do for you!!!

I have never met a stylist I liked until I came here. Seriously, I have had bad experience after bad experience. I’m not the pickiest of people, but I do have a short list of requirements from a salon. 1. Give me at least somewhat what I ask for. I always ask for the same thing… A super low maintenance cut, and 2. Don’t be gossipy. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to hear bad things about your coworkers or your moody boyfriend. Well Judy went above and beyond those two simple things… Far above and beyond.
I explained to her that I wanted a perm to fix my last cut. I normally really like my natural hair, but the layers were cut all wacky and, unless I straightened my hair, it looked really horrible. She took one look at my hair an was appalled by the way it was cut. So away she started snipping to even things out. Already it looked a lot better. And, since it was looking a lot better, she suggested I go home and wash it a few times and see if that helped the style, rather than spend money on the perm if I didn’t need it. Honestly, I was incredibly impressed. Most people try to up-​sell you on everything, but she was more concerned about me being happy with my hair than getting me to spend extra money on something I wouldn’t need.
After washing my hair a few times, I decided it still was flipping out all weird, though considerably less. I booked a perm with Judy because I felt in the end I still needed it to fix my last cut. Judy did a BEAUTIFUL job. My hair looks picture perfect with short bouncy beach waves and practically zero maintenance… It was EXACTLY what I wanted!
And the best part, she is a great conversationalist. She told me about all the different cities she’s lived in and how she ended up coming to San Diego, as well as her passion for jewelry making and wire working, all of which was fascinating. And to top it all off, everyone else in the salon was really friendly towards me and towards each other. It was really a nice change of pace. I definitely plan on coming back!

Charbel is incredibly talented as a hair stylist, artist, and colorist. I found Charbel after my stylist of 10 years left for NYC. Charbel is a master at his craft. When he’s done with my hair, I look and feel beautiful. He is kind, polite, and just a great stylist.
He used to have his own salon in Sweden and Boston. We’re blessed to have him in San Diego. I’ve been going to Charbel for 9 months and couldn’t be happier. It is not cheap but worth the high product and service. Folks at DB are nice and I am always offered a beverage. They also sell clothing, jewelry, hats and purses. Parking can sometimes be a challenge. Just bring your credit card or lots of quarters including Saturdays. I also like their hours late after work.
Totally give my highest recommendations! Ask for Charbel. You will be pleased. He asks what you want, gives his suggestions but never insists on anything you don’t want. He also teaches me how to style my own hair the way he does it. He never pushed a product on me but is an honest broker. Charbel is great with any kind of hair. Mine is Asian wavy and he knows how to handle it well. I also referred my girlfriend who is Russian and she is now so happy with her new cut and color.
What more could you ask for? Charbel is incredibly talented and simply a good human being.

For the past 7 years, I have been going up to Umberto in B Hills and paying WAY too much for color and cut. Little by little I noticed that I was no longer getting compliments. So I decided to try something new when a friend got a great highlight/​cut here. Peter did an AMAZING job! I’ve been flooded with compliments this weekend. And he is just a great guy … that’s important when you know you’ll be spending 2 hours getting your hair done, and I’m already looking forward to seeing him 3 months from now!
Also, I gotta give a shout-​out to Twyla Shakespeare as well. I go to her every couple of years to learn some new makeup techniques. She is both an expert and an enthusiast who loves to teach. Unlike many makeup artists, she doesn’t have just one «look» but instead she is a genius at figuring out what works best for you, and she has a way of explaining how to do it for yourself. I am an IDIOT with makeup, and if she could train me, she can train anyone.
Both Peter and Twyla are just wonderful people, and the entire staff at DB has that same vibe. The people there not only seem to love what they do, but they are the kind of folks that you’d want to hang out with, even if they weren’t so good at making us look our best!

This place is awesome and the people are some of the sweetest I’ve ever met, especially Jessica. Well at least the top 5 ;-)
But seriously, this place exudes class, as does it’s staff!
