BLOOD, SWEAT, and MUD !!! Okay, didn’t sound very catchy, but that was what went down on my very FIRST mud run ! Overall, I placed on the top 60 out of 900+ in my wave start time(1100 am)! Either, I’m one bad@$$ chick or there were tons of out of shape participants ! I choose to believe the former ! /flexes arms and nods head repeatedly HIGHLIGHTS aka /LIKES: — Team ‘Frog Legs’ FTW !!! Our group of 4: Captain Shay, my bro Shaun C., Isabel, and Christopher M. rocked it ! By the end of the race, poor ‘Kermit the Frog’ was no longer visible on our shirts due to the MUDMASSACRE we endured ! Good stuff ! — Awesome 5K course with numerous obstacles(i.e., mud pits, sand pit crawls, tire pillars, vertical walls, mud tunnels, etc.) ! Challenging for my first, but I managed ! — Think of ‘mud mask’ similar to salt scrub. Great facial exfoliation. I noticed a smoother and glowy appearance after. A cheap alternative. — Mud-stache, mud IN eyes and mouth. ya you read right, and bruised/scratched up hands and knees ! Ya. expect to come out of this with battle wounds ! No pain, no gain ! — Spectators were great towards the end. I got a few cheers and ROARS as I dived into the mud pits ! Let’s just say, the muddier I got and the more I crawled down into the pits, the louder the cheers ! Kept me motivated ! — Mud Fest Aftermath — Free BEER for finishing the race, LIVEMUSIC/DJ, food vendors, and Unilocal was in the hizzouse with their own booth with freebies ! Noice ! LOWLIGHTS aka /FAILS: — NOSHIRT ?! BOOHOO! Although, I hear next year they’ll have one ! — Parking fee. Really? Then again. it’s Del Mar ! cha-ching ! — When they say ‘quick rinse’ you really only get THAT after the race. Although, I made sure to make the most of it and thoroughly washed myself from head to toe ! What’s with the video cameras rolling though ??? Can I have some privacy please? — Changing stations could be improved. It was a small, dark tent over a dirt landscape. Wow. really Del Mar??? Couldn’t afford a much suitable spot for us ladies? I felt like I was in ‘bootcamp.’ — Where the heck is our group aftermath mud pic with the green screen !!! After looking through all the massive pictures, not ONE ! So sad! — MUDstache pics ??? Yes, according to my friend, I rocked that look, but no evidence ! /DOUBLE FAIL ***Oh the PAIN and oh the FUN !!! Totally worth it despite the drawbacks ! Next time, I would love to plan it out earlier and perhaps really go ALLOUT with the costumes ! So many creative and hilarious ones, but I do find that LESS is MORE !!! So for all of you that were shocked that I even got ‘dirty dirty’ for once in my life, I am PROUD to say that this was an experience that I am willing to try again !

So fun! We had a great time! The showers were pretty lame but there were a bunch of hoses that most people didn’t know about that we used instead.

Our team Mudder Funkers had an AWESOME time! All the mud run costumes were great and the after party was a perfect ending to the day. Good bands, djs… everyone was dancing. There was a ton of different beer and food. Oh wait. I should actually talk about the run! The course overall was pretty hard and yeah most knees and wrists were scraped from so much crawling in mud rivers full of rocks but that isn’t Vavi’s fault, I will tape up better next year. Some of the mud hills were unsafe, I saw 3 wipeouts with knee and ankle injuries so maybe they will have the downhills a little more gradual. Other then that the course was super fun! I would not say they had«showers» it was more like drip lines, next year I will bring a jug of water and shower off that way. And the girls changing room was a dark hot tent only big enough for 15 girls at most, instead of putting it on the cement they put it on the dirt and bark, so you clean up and walk in there to change and end up dirtier. All that said it was SOFUN. I will do it again and again, but will be better prepared and hope that Vavi makes some improvements next year
