The staff was so friendly and a good place for wifi. Definitely good if you like cupcakes, they have a bunch, and other munchies. Have to try it again soon.

Very cute coffee shop with plenty of seating. Desserts looked fantastic(wish I could have had one… damn diet) and the fruit salad I had was fresh despite it being 9pm at night. My only complaint(and its minor) is that my tea was cold when I got it. Otherwise, a perfect place to hang out with friends or read a book.

Ummmm ! Blackberry tart and a cup of medium roast coffee… so good! I try to patron independent coffee places instead of Starbucks and this place was recommended by Unilocal

All I had was a piece of red velvet cake to go but mmmmmmmmm it was really, really good. Plus, the slice was so generous it took me two days of nibbling to finish it. I also liked the music that was playing as we paid at the register. I’d like to go back and have a sit down and try their coffee. They had turned off the machines for the night or something when we stopped in and were not serving coffee. Kinda weird but to be fair it was pretty late.

It’s your average urban Gay retirement-aged coffee house with friendly staff, free wifi(check your receipt for the security key), and smoking areas, if your into that. David’s has been around a long time and you are sure to hear regulars greeted by name and offered their preferred beverage. Everyone else is called«Sweetie» regardless of age, gender, or actual sweetness. The menu is basic with not too much variety or innovation.(Coffee is coffee, I guess.) The desserts are at least as good as you would find at any Denny’s, minus the non-dairy whipped topping. You get all the predictability and cleanliness of, say, a Starbucks, while still enjoying the neighborliness of a cozy independent business and community hangout. If Harvey Fierstein were a Coffee House in San Diego, he would be David’s Coffee House. They often play relaxing nostalgia music in the background and there’s a grand piano if you got the talent. I think it was here that I saw a nifty little sign urging«If you play piano, feel free; if you don’t, don’t.» The back patio is nice and quiet; great for those who still read newspapers. Various 12-step meetings are hosted here. Chances are you won’t find a meter to park at, and you’re too cheap to use the private lots, so just park across the street at Rite-Aid. Yes, it’s technically unauthorized to park there if you’re not a customer. So why not just stop in to Rite-Aid pick up some damned mints. You’re gonna need something to cover up the coffee breath when you’re done anyway, Grandpa.

Great coffeeshop– it’s a little hidden, but that is probably a good thing so that it’s not over crowded with loud people like some of the starbucks I’ve been to. On the outside, it looks like a house. There is wireless internet access creating a good studying atmosphere. There is also a wide selection of coffees, which I definitely appreciate. :-) Open late and a piano player was playing on their piano for about an hour and a half while we were there– it was relaxing.

I’ve always felt neglected every time I’ve been to David’s. I know I’m not a gay man, but I make a good hag.

Wonderful gayborhood coffee shop. Great patio space(there’s a courtyard too!!), nice tables, couches, and friendly service. The coffee is pretty good — i’ve had excellent, i’ve had okay. Free Wi-Fi, bright lighting to be able to read, etc. Open past 8:00PM unlike the other places! Definitely a plus. WIsh there were more places like David’s — I hate those chain coffeeshops. EDIT(10.14.2007): Came here today and thought the coffee itself hasn’t been as good as it used to be. I might have liked Starbucks better… and I really don’t support Starbucks. bummer.

Been here a few times with my bf over in Hillcrest. It’s a cute little coffee shop with free internet(which many seem to take advantage of) and some nice sofas in the back. James(the guy who served me at the register) is very nice, as well as the other people behind the counter. I love the little raspberry square they have there on occasion, and they also make very good tea, which is what I usually get when I stop by. Coffee is also decent, but I prefer the tea…

A quaint little coffee shop across the street from Rite Aid. The regulars are colorful, the barista knew everyone’s name, and the back patio is a good meeting place for everything from poetry groups to twelve step programs. They also have free wifi, and it’s quiet.

After living in Cali for 2.5 years, I can say I finally found my own nook outside of my condo, to which I can go every weekend to decompress. It’s David’s Coffee House in Hillcrest. I stopped by this place yesterday on a whim, for a quick cup of joe, and quickly wondered why I didn’t come in earlier. You can tell this is a place filled with regulars. And the friendly guy who works at David’s is a sweetie. He just hooked me up with a double-shot capp. There are many things I love about this place. The patio is smoker-friendly, ahem. There is a great mix of folk in here, from students cramming for their finals to older women gabbing about their grandchildren. There’s another patio once you get inside. One huge plus: free wi-fi. Great place to bring over a laptop, order a mocha and get some work or web browsing done. Love it. Love it. Love it. This is my spot. Can’t wait to bring hubbie here.

Located in Hillcrest, David’s Coffee Place is a unique coffeehouse among cookie-cutter cafes. It features FREE WiFi Wireless Internet Access, a piano, fine deserts, and great drinks! It has two LARGE patios, a meeting room, and comfortable seating, including some couches. It’s a great place for a cup of Joe, to study, or to see and be seen. The clientle is as eclectic as the atmosphere. One of, is not THE best coffeehouse in San Diego, CA!

Although the café in itself is cheery looking and spacious, the coffees I’ve drunk there have all come up short in terms of taste. The French roast cup I had was barely better than a Seven Eleven cup O’ Joe, and the muffin didn’t taste much nicer than those I used to get on SDSU’s campus… The owner is very nice though, and their café is equipped with a grand piano for the improvised pianists of the hour. Note: Wi-Fi access.

This gay-friendly coffee house is worth braving the parking in Hillcrest. They have this deal, it’s $ 5 for a latte, a muffin and a newspaper. Those three things are all anyone should need or want in the morning.
