OMG. I just went here today expecting Curry House to be there and I had no idea they closed down way back in April! I used to loved their lunch special where a chicken leg curry was only $ 5 – 6 since their price for pork katsu curry was ridiculously $ 9. Did they just close down? Or did they move to another location?

This is my 2nd Curry House and I have to admit, this one is worse than the Irvine one. I expect a bit more from this place however, it is a chain and well… I can easily make equivillant or better at home. I grew up eating katsu curry; both on Guam and Hawaii. I love the stuff. But I expected to have a bit more flavor when it comes to a big restaurant such as Curry House. Their curry is basic. Come on guys and gals. Is this stuff really all that you think it is? Trying buying a package of S & B curry there at Nijiya. I bet you won’t taste much of a difference; if at all. It is also a drag that most of their curry comes with no veggies. Hmm, come to think of it, I can’t remember if they have any curry w/veggie dishes at all. Plain curry without the good stuff like potatoes and carrots just seems plain and boring. You can get good katsu curry around the corner at Mitsuwa for a lot less. I read in another comment that this curry house will be closing down in 3 days from now. And to be perfectly honest, I can’t wait to see it go. Just as long as they don’t replace it with a Panda Express.

This place is cheap, inexpensive, and the portions are generous. The service is always on point, too. A solid choice for lunch or dinner! The curry comes in three levels of spiciness and the entrees are fairly customizable, so you can add an egg or whatever fixing you like. The desserts are ridiculously cheap, all less than $ 4 the last time I was there.

I’ve been to this place at least once a week for the last four weeks. Exactly four weeks ago, a couple of my coworkers introduced me to this place. And it was love at first bite. I’m not high maintenance when it comes to curry. I like going to lunch restaurants that 1) have good tasting food 2) affordable prices 3) friendly wait staff and 4) MUSTHAVEPARKING. I mean, come on, how am I going to eat at your restaurant when I can’t find a spot? What is this? San Francisco? :P So, Curry House, you’ve done your job. Good food, very nice waitresses and lunch specials for $ 5.95. And come on people, it’s $ 6. This isn’t a french gourmet restaurant. It’s freakin’ Curry House. I will be back!

Curry really fills me up. I’ve always been a fan of Japanese curry and I’m glad I stumbled into this place while getting lost on Covoy St trying to find somewhere to eat. They are quick to serve you and the waitresses are some what friendly. Not too much interaction but that’s all good. I ate the Beef Curry Plate which consist of curry, rice, salad, 2 fried shrimps and what I call corn chowder. All for $ 9.75. I was not able to finish everything on my plate but it was delicious. You can also add some spice to your curry — Medium, HOT, EXTRAHOT etc. The food is really filling so be careful of the after affects.(in Hawaii we say«kanak attack)… Ample space for parking and very reasonable.

This place has very good curry! Came here with my roommates for an early dinner/late lunch no wait at all and sat down quite fast. Appetizer: I love sweet potato fries, and it was only me who ate and finished them Chicken Katsu Curry with Medium Spicy with Rice was made perfectly. perfect amount of sauce to match up with the rice(you can also get brown rice for you healthnuts) My friend also had the Chicken Katsu but instead of rice, she asked for Noodles and that wasnt so bad either. I really wanna try their Meatball Curry next time i come. This place is very clean and has nice service. Place is very modern and colorful and it stands out really well. i LIKE it. oooh and it has fish tank. YAY!

The Skinny: my husband was sorely disappointed by the curry here, I was disappointed by my orders(2.5), service — Kenji, our server, is the best! He totally rocked the house and kudos to him for us!(5), value — not great for what you’re getting. I just wanted to say that I really wasn’t sure how to rate this place. Our server was one of the best servers we’ve had in a long time. Our glasses were never empty, he gave us the right amount of time to place our orders, our food came out in a timely fashion… and he was waiting a ¾ full restaurant all by himself. Kenji, you rock, dude! That being said, it’s hard to detract from the substandard offerings at this Curry House location. Understand, my husband is a huge fan of Curry House. When he talks about Japanese curry, it goes against the Curry House curry bar. So far, no place(even in Japan) meets this bar except at Curry House. We drive from Vegas just for Curry House. As we leave town he will order 3 Menchi katsu curries with spaghetti to go so he can eat it at home. He was anticipating this trip to Curry House like a 5 year old on Christmas. I’m sorry to say, he was very upset. He felt that curry sauce was too diluted. I agreed, the sauce was really watery. The corn soup was also very watered down. I also ordered a chicken salad and some sweet potato fries. The chicken breast was boiled and tough while the salad dressing lack the normally great flavour. The sweet potato fries suffered becoming very soggy soon after they were served. So we sighed and made a detour to Curry House LA the next day to get our curry fix on the way home.

I asked the waiter my typical question, «What items are the most popular here?» He was very helpful and recommended the Hamburger Curry and the Chicken Leg Katsu Curry. Naturally, my friend and I ordered them both. The hamburger was too soft for my friend. I thought the curry was good, but something that I could have made at home. However, I also got the Iced Green Tea that was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised when they gave me a free refill. I felt like I won the lottery. A few cons… You shouldn’t have to pay extra 25cents to get the curry in extra hot or super hot. I ordered mine hot and it felt like mild. Also, for what you receive, everything is overpriced. My friend wanted to get his hamburger topped with an egg, but couldn’t stand to pay an extra $ 1.50 for that one egg.

3.5… This place was really nice and clean inside. Ample seating, but tight parking! I was a bit apprehensive in trying Jap curry. I had this mindset that it’s similar in taste to Indian curry, which I’m not a fan of. We ordered the Hamburger Curry($ 9.25) and the Menchi Katsu Curry($ 9.45). Each entrée comes with a small side salad with their house dressing, which is a nice treat. You have the option to have mild, medium or spicy curry. To me, the Hamburger tasted and looked like a salisbury steak. It was good, and the mild curry was actually pretty tasty. I tried the Menchi Katsu, which is a panko breaded hamburger, and it was actually better than my entrée. I deferred the panko crust since I was watching what I ate, but the Katsu was def better! The only complaint I had was that our entrees took awhile thus the half star reduction. There were about 7 other parties, and we waited a good 20 mins for our simple entrees. I’m not one to complain and usually give the benefit of the doubt, but the wait was getting pretty ridiculous. Nevertheless, I’m glad I was open to try something new, and I was pleasantly surprised! I’d def come back and try other items.

I’ve only been here once and I’m not sure if I’ll go back for the over-priced curry. I went here for dinner with my boyfriend & one of my girlfriends since she was in town for the summer. We decided to give this place a try since we were all kind of craving curry and this place had always been on our minds(we’ve been to Shanghai City right next door a few times and always saw this restaurant). I ordered the katsu curry because it had always been my favorite since my summer Japan trip!(ate katsu curry quite a lot at the cafeteria in school because they were the BEST and it was cheap) The food overall was okay — nothing too exciting… which is why I feel like their food is too expensive for what they really are. I can probably go buy a box of curry mix and make better-tasting curry than what they served me that night… and I don’t usually cook unless I REALLY have to. Not to mention I got sick later that night(and I didn’t eat anything else that night)…so I’ve been conditioned to correlate this place with food poisoning. So altogether, the likelihood of me going back to this place is pretty slim!

This is the only place I know where their food actually comes out looking like the ones they have in their menu! The food Looks too perfect to be eaten. See my pictures! One of them even looks like Elmo. LOL. The food also tastes great and there is a large selection of «sides» to go with your curry. My only issue with this place is the price. 3 tempura shrimps, Curry and rice should not cost $ 12!

Food: –chicken curry: nothing really special and I felt like the proportions were kinda small. I really feel that bad food should be compensated with big proportions, so if you don’t like it, at least you are full. But that didn’t really happen here. I’m kinda disappointed. Service: normal. Not bad or great. Price: so so for just some rice and a ladle of chicken curry. Didn’t feel like it was a great deal Ambiance: I thought this place was super cute though. I like the décor. It feels really hip and upbeat. Almost like you are just chilling at a froyo place. Pretty cool.

This place is all right. I find it interesting that they advertise on their building that they also serve spagetti with curry. I’ve never seen something like that before. Khann had the Keema Curry, which looked interesting, though Khann said it tasted a little too«coconut-y» with the coconut milk. I had the Hamburger and Egg Curry, which had the meat tasting more like meatloaf or pot roast than hamburger. The egg didn’t exactly add anything. Khann said his iced tea tasted a little light, and that was without the sugar they added. I had the pink lemonade, which was actually quite tasty. The atmosphere felt a little internet café-like to me. I mean, there are outlets near every table in the place. The place could make more money if it went towards the internet café route. Interesting music in the restaurant too. Went from Amy Grant to Michael Bolton(!) to Spice Girls to John Mayer. Sappy music all around, which is strange for a place serving curry. Also strange was the toy-like atmosphere that greets you in the«lobby» of the restaurant.

Three years ago, I probably would have given this place hands-down 5 stars because it was so perfect in every way. I used to go to Curry House every week, because it was THAT good. However, over the years I’ve noticed that pricing and dining quality has an inverse relationship to each other(must be the recession, eh?) in a number of restaurants. Unfortunately Curry House has fallen to such a state, where pricing has slowly increased, while quality of food has slowly decreased. The interior is pretty modern, with booth seating along the walls and tables and chairs linking them. There are fake models of various dishes on display, which can be viewed from outside of the restaurant. They’re fun to look at, especially if you’re waiting for your friends who are on «Asian Time». There are fish takes, and the register is located near the entrance. This place always has top-notch service from waiters/waitresses, regardless of how busy it is. This probably one of the few reasons why I keep coming back to Curry House. We ordered iced green tea and they are refilled every 5 minutes. I don’t know what their secret is, but this iced green tea still tastes just as amazing as it did when I first ordered it three years ago. On drinks and service alone, I would give this place 5 stars. As I said before, the pricing and quality of food have an inverse relationship. In addition, the portions have slightly decreased as well. The curry looks thick, but now it tastes a little bland. Good thing there’s chili oil — chili paste/oil makes everything(except desserts) taste better! The rice is a little mushy, but I’ve grown accustomed to that. The corn potage is watery, so now I have to add pepper to it. It used to be much thicker and tastier back in the day. Originally, you could order entrees with a set price and it would come with a choice of soup or salad. They stopped doing that, but overall, if you were to order the same entrée with a soup or salad, you would still end up paying more. The hamburger curry tasted too soft and mushy, yet not as flavorful as it used to be. Flavor and texture is important, in my book. You wouldn’t want to a hard piece of bread, even if it tastes good. The curry pan and potato croquette are smaller as well, and that makes me a sad panda. The spaghetti marinara still tastes the same, although the portion is smaller. I’ve also tried the spinach seafood dish, which still tastes as good as always, but portion size and pricing have changed as well. I’m sorry Curry House, but you babied me with your outstanding service in the past, and all I can do is continue to compare you. Times have changed, but I just wasn’t prepared for such a harsh reality. *sigh* This is just like what happened to Santana’s, except a reality show didn’t make Curry House more popular. 3⁄5 and GOODBYE.

My friends had suggested this place to me as I was really wanting Curry. Reviewing the Unilocal reviews and seeing the 3.5 stars, I was very skeptical; however, i wanted curry and i was around the area. Honestly, due to some of the negative reviews, I expected the worse in the service and the food. BUT once i got in here. from beginning to end, everything was good! I was surprised! So, I had to write a review. The interior décor is very clean, bright, simple, and cute. There are enough tables to get seated really quickly. The place had a good amount of people; however, it wasn’t packed. The restaurant is in a plaza right next to Nijima Market. By surprise, the service was GREAT. We had two waitresses constantly servicing us. Had no problem in getting water, food, and bill. We kept asking for the yummy red radishes and they kept bring it out. As for the food, we ordered the Chicken Cheese Katsu with Curry($ 13) and the Tofu and Ground Chicken Curry($ 11.40). Both we ordered a medium to high spicy level. By surprise, the food was really really good. For each meal, you can add an egg($ 1.00), cheese($ 1 – 2), tofu($ 1.00), etc.. For the additional items, I was quite shocked about the price… Actually, I was shocked about the price for the meals in general. It is pretty expensive for curry … You could definitely find something like this elsewhere for a lot cheaper. However, it’s good. I do recommend this place; however, expect to spend $$. * one thing I thought was funny and very environmental friendly is that they have a sign noting. «Due to the water shortage in san diego, we will not provide water unless asked»

One of my favorite Curry places of all time! Located next to the Nijima market on Convoy. The curry is really flavorful and the rice has a garlic kick to it. The food is a little heavy but really hits the spot when you’re in the mood for curry :) This curry house is pretty big so I’ve never had to wait!

What good is the iphone Unilocal app good for if I don’t actually use it! Mental note… Unilocal before eating! Duh! I thought I had never been here before, but now that it’s done, I realize that I just didn’t remember. It’s ok, not great, thus, not memorable. That’s sad cause it doesn’t take much to impress me with the katsu curry. What I should’ve done was Unilocal so that I’d know to order the super extra spicy cause I like some heat on it. I ordered hot(3rd of 5 levels of heat) and it had NO heat. Tasty enough, though. A bit pricey for the quantity and quality of food. Service was excellent. Attentive and nice despite the fact that we didn’t notice this place closes at 9pm, walked in at 8:30, and lingered well past closing. We didn’t even realize they were closed since they didn’t seem to kick us out. They just kept bringing us drinks. Sorry girls. Pretty dead for a Friday night. That should’ve been the hint.

I’ve been a regular at the Santa Monica location on Sawtelle. But for some reason, I didn’t get the same type of experience here that I got there. Well, for one thing, the parking was much better than the LA location but the spaces were really NARROW. Like they were built for motorcycles and not SUVs. The food tasted the same but it felt as if it was it was premade and off an assembly line. The interior felt cold and non-welcoming. Very businesslike. The menu didn’t look like a menu. More like a webpage but designed for a car company than a restaurant. I felt awkward bringing my wife and kids here. And the prices? Borderline unreasonable for the quality and portions you get. Service was friendly and attentive however. My sweet green iced tea stayed full. But there’s a reason why this place is mostly empty and I think I covered some of it. I wanted to feel better about this place but it missed the mark with me. It could be the MSG in the curry. :( I got a headache now.

YES… the end. LOL If I could be Queen for the day with George Clooney as my King, I would decree the following: The only music allowed would be Phunk — and Parliament would be the writers of my coronation theme There would be a Vietnamese restaurant on site where McDonald’s used to be, a Wine Steals where all the Starbucks are and then a Curry House on every other street… Anyhow, this place made me miss Japan and real Japanese style curry. I have to laff at the person who complained about the curry being«brown», this is NOT East Indian Curry this is Japanese style. I had the«Spicy Ginger/Curry Chicken Cutlets» with spinach and garlic rice. Let’s just say that I RARELY eat an entire plate of food, I did in this case. While the menu has 3 hot pepper stars next to this dish, it was not as spicy as I expected but that is fine. I was told that they could kick it up a notch the next time. Delicious, savory and flavorful was my dish. I love Japanese style salads too. I was feeling under the weather after a very chilly run on Coronado, this food perked me right up and left me feeling with a sincere longing to return to Japan. God I hope I get to go back this Spring! The Tank and I will be back. Is it just me or does Kearny Mesa have the BEST food in San Diego? :-D! I want to also mention that my service was outstanding, they were busy but took VERY good care of me.
