Yes, it is as good as it gets but Steve and the other trainers at CATS are constantly working to make things better. I am 61 years old and doing things I had given up on when I was in my 40’s thanks to Steve who designs specific movements and exercises to help me improve and grow. Right now balance, mobility and stamina are the focus and Steve has created fun, innovative and challenging exercises to help me meet my goals. At this point, I rely on Steve’s expertise but it is never a one-way conversation and it is fun and interesting to work collaboratively with one of the top fitness instructors around who truly cares.

CATS is hands down one of the best equipped facilities I’ve ever trained at. The quality of craftsmanship coming from their staff by far exceeds what you’ll be able to get at any conventional facility. You can learn more in this building about everyday/real life application of exercise and technique than almost any other building I can think of. CATS is cut from an entirely different cloth. I’ve trained next to both Anthony and Stephen downstairs at Worlds Gym PB and I can tell you from first hand experience that they are two of the brightest fitness/health and wellness professionals you could hope to have exposure to. Bottom Line is if you are in the San Diego area go by and check the place out for yourself. If you’re a fitness nerd like me you will NEED in that building!

Training at CATS is hands down the best 50 minutes of my day. Here’s what I love about it: — You WILL get fit! This isn’t like going to LA Fitness or Chuze where you’ll get lost in a throng of other people aimlessly trying to get fit. You’re in a supervised 3 to 8 person class. It’s like having a personal trainer(at a fraction of the price). — The Dynamic Load Base movements that make up the training are challenging but never feel unnatural or unsafe. That’s the reason I passed on CrossFit. I’ve known people who got hurt by doing complex and unnecessary movements under the supervision of inexperienced instructors. Despite the intensity at CATS I’ve never seen anyone injure themselves. Credit goes to Steve who has years of experience and closely watches the class. You’re never pressed to perform a movement before being coached on how to do it correctly. — Mental toughness. You have to put out when you show up. And, you will push yourself beyond what you think you can do. I’ve learned more about myself and grown more as a person as a result of training here. Pushing past physical and mental barriers changes how you view yourself and what you’re capable of doing. I’m more effective in everything I do, especially at work. — The gym is an open 6,500 sq. ft arena filled with some of the coolest training tools you’ll ever see. No muscle in your body goes unworked and it never gets boring. And perhaps my favorite. — It’s a workout and a show… The training is as fun as it is challenging. Steve, a retired Navy SEAL who spent his last few years as a BUD/S instructor, brings that experience, cadence and especially humor to the classes with some of the funniest quips and one liners you’ll hear. The classes are peppered with encouraging comments, comedic mockery, and irreverence in a way that’s part stand up comedy and part beat down. My summary: It’s by far the best training experience, mental toughness/personal growth experience you’ll find. At 45 years old I’m in the best shape of my life mentally and physically. I can’t imagine not training here. The people who attend are fun and enjoy the hard work. If you’re not the type that has grit you’ll get it soon enough. If you do have it, it will get tested. The camaraderie and teamwork is amazing. I’ve made some great friends here. The cost of the unlimited classes membership at CATS is on par with CrossFit although anyone who trains here will quickly tell you it’s a much better value. My opinion, it’s way underpriced for what you get. Hope this encourages you to drop in and see if it’s for you.

This is definitely not 24 hour fitness or Barry’s Boot Camp! I have gone to a ton of group fitness/boot camp style classes out there and thought that I had done every workout… But Steve has a unique approach to strength and conditioning that will push you to new limits and put you in the best shape of your life. There is no better way to strengthen your body and core for any sport than doing functional movements like swinging a Bulgarian bag or pushing a weighted sled. The exercises Steve uses translate to better performance in every aspect of sports/life. The«gym» is a huge clean space filled with equipment you won’t find anywhere else(where else will you find a 250 pound Atlas stone?!). Steve retired from the Navy after training/instructing Navy Seals… I’m confident he can make anyone a better, stronger, healthier athlete.

I have known and trained with Steve Nave for over 8 years and have to say that he’s the most effective, knowledgeable and trusted coach I have come across. Coach Steve has been my strength and conditioning coach for numerous competitions and has always helped me achieve my goals. Whether you’re training to get into better shape, training for a competition or simply training for life’s challenges(I have triplets), Steve’s approach(and as a former Navy SEAL), he will prepare you for the unexpected. I’ve worked out at globo-gyms, utilized CrossFit programming but nothing comes close to Steve’s coaching and methodology. I don’t believe in infomercials or drink any kool-aid, you simply have to try him out to believe me. I highly recommend Steve and the Combat Athlete Training System without reservation.

The CATS facility and coaches far exceed any other gym in San Diego. I have trained with Steve Nave(CATS owner) for nearly 8 years at nearly all of the top gyms all over San Diego and CATS bests them in every category. The layout is fantastic with plenty of space to use the most effective tools available. Most gyms try and cram machine on top of machine in order to best their bottom line. CATS is completely different in that the entire gym is based around athletic movement and the needs of the athletes. Whatever your end game, speed, power, endurance, explosiveness, CATS has the tools and instruction to empower you to the next level. I highly recommend this facility to anyone at any fitness level.
