City of San Diego: Collection Services

I wish I had the same response as the others but I was told that my trash can– which was dropped into the trash and was not able to be retrieved– had to be replaced by me — why? because 3 years ago I reported that my wheels were missing from my trash can because they came off when they took the trash and therefore it was damaged and my fault — even though they did it… so three years later they are blaming the missing wheels –even though every week they have picked up my trash with no incident– as the reason the bin could not be retrieved and I have to pay to replace it — now will have to go in person to discuss the issue

The collection truck ate my relatively new trash container. When i called to find out about whether the city would replace it, I expected to have to battle.
What I got was that the driver had already reported that trash bin was in the truck and a new one will be delivered the next day.
I was extremely pleased with the entire process. Good work San Diego!

You no longer get refuse bins for free from the City: $ 70 at full price. But they prorate your cost, charging you $ 7 for every year you’ve had your bin, which is a happier medium. (And $ 25 if you need them to deliver instead of going there yourself.)
So when the collection truck ate the lid to our bin late last fall, i thought, Crap, i’ll need a new bin to minimize the mass of flies that’ll want to come in my back door (um).
When i brought in my bin, one of the orange-​vested workers looked at it and asked, What’s wrong with your bin?
Well, it doesn’t have a lid.
I’ve got one of those for you, I’m pretty sure.
He popped it on and saved me $ 11. Thanks!
Minimal parking? Check.
Pay by credit card? Check.
Walls of the office festooned with printed emails, child-​written letters, and other congratulatory missives upon construction paper with the names of the particular employees lauded printed large, no doubt increasing morale and responsiveness to city residents? Quite charmingly, check.
