City Nails II

Here’s the Unilocal review you wanted!
Friend and I came here with my daughter roughly around 11:30am. They told us to return at 1:00pm because they were busy. No problem! We returned at exactly 1:00pm And goodness! All of the employees stared at us and obviously talking about us in their native language. At least be discrete in doing so!
My friend and I were seated almost immediately. My daughter (who I clearly stated will be getting a kids spa pedicure) was asked to wait. NO PROBLEM. My friends spa water was turned on and I immediately noticed hair floating all over her leg. –_​_​_​_​_​– in the meantime, no one even bothered to turn my pedicure spa on. We patiently waited for about 30 minutes.
Finally, there was a seat available and they sat another customer instead of my daughter that had been patiently waiting for 30 minutes! That was definitely my last straw. I got up and left. They insisted they would tend to us in a few minutes. WHY NOT inform us instead of letting us sit and wait «a couple minutes»? Why not just tell us they are under staffed instead of wasting our time?
Also, a lot of their nail polishes were dried out just overall limited selection. We ended up going to another salon 5 minutes away, paid a little bit more for WAY BETTER SERVICE. It was absolutely worth it.
I DO NOT AND WILL NEVER recommend this place to anyone!

By far, the worst gel manicure ever! Vee worked on my nails and seemed to do the opposite of everything I asked. I wanted a slight cut down and she chopped of my nails. I asked for a square shape and she rounded them. The polish is already peeling and don’t even get me started on the poor cuticle work. Check out my pics and judge for yourself. These pics were taken today, the day of the manicure. I will have to pay to get my nails redone at my regular shop. The only reason I went to this shop is because I was visiting my mother and it was conveniently located. My nails look like they were done by an 8 year old. I agree with the other helper Vee and her nail salon deserve zero stars!

This place is the worst! I got a crummy gel manicure in SF yesterday. It started to peel on our plane ride to San Diego. The following day I quickly Unilocaled a place near by and found this dump. It had good ratings on Unilocal but my experience was crummy.
The location is small and only has 3 nail techs. I walked in and told them I needed gel taken off an some new color.
Their nail color selection was awful. They were super rough and their service is awful!!! Avoid them at all costs!

I like it here I’ve been coming here for about 7 years now ! Vee the owner is a doll, she tries juggling all customers to make everyone happy ! N for the pedicures Myy is the best she is so sweet. . I highly recommend this nail place !

I came here because it has a decent star rating on here but I will not be returning. While my nails look good and for the most part, how I want them to, the guy was rude. While my base coat was drying he proceeded to go outside and have a cigarette. When he came in, he didn’t wash his hands or anything. He did this one more time while one of my coats was drying. When finishing up, he played on his phone while my nails were drying. The salon has no music or tv on, I could hear the other customer’s entire conversation while I was there, very awkward and uncomfortable.

This is the only nail salon I have ever had a positive experience in. I’ve been going here since 2002. The staff is always friendly and efficient. Walk ins are welcome; stations are always clean and sanitized. Prices are reasonable and no one ever pressures you to go for the more expensive menu items.
The parking lot is rather narrow and small, but there is also (free) street parking!
I don’t get my nails done very often, but this is definitely the best place to go for a great experience!

Vy is the best!!! Every time I come in she’s so helpful and is always willing to work with what want and it comes out just the way I like it everytime! I won’t step foot in another nail solon after coming here. They only have 3 nail techs, so they’re usually juggling multiple customers. I recommend making an appt cause this place can get pretty packed. It’s inexpensive and quality!

I took my mother (71) to get the first pedicure of her life. She’s HOOKED! MI was incredible! Vi did my nails and as usual everyone wants to know who does my nails. City nails is my one and only nail salon!

great service. didnt have an appointment but i didn’t have to wait too long. i was attended quickly by Vee. she was super professional, considerate of my needs. would recommend to those in the San Diego area. Vee does a fantastic job maintaining the salon and making her patrons feel comfortable and at ease. Vee leaves you walking out in style giving a nice ego boost ahha. Baby lookin’ fiine!

Every time I come the owner vee is very friendly and they take care of me right away. Always a good job and does exactly how I ask!

I’ve had my nails done from coast to coast and everywhere in between… From the most expensive nail salons in San Fran and NY to the most out of the way hole in the wall places in East Daygo… Yes I said it… Daygo baby! This place is the best hands down… I’ve been coming here for 10 years… It’s not the fanciest nail salon in the county but it’s home to two of the best nail techs I have ever encountered, Vee (the owner) and Mai… No one touches my feet but Mai…
In response to some of the other reviews… It’s clear by the photo submitted some of these Unilocalers are sadly mistaking Vee’s place for the lame place in the Jack In The Box shopping center across the street… Vee’s place is next to the Oyster Bar for future reference and yes… Vee is super fast but if you speak up she’ll slow it down…
I personally have never been happy when trying one of their fill in employees so I stick with Mai and Vee when Mai is not available…
I don’t wear false nails but if you’re into that type of thing Vee has a great selection of nail tips… My personal usual consists of a gel manicure and a spa pedicure… No Buddha shrines or smelly incense… Men are welcomed!

I have never been so disappointed with a business to go out of my way to review it, but anyone wanting to come to this nail salon needs to be warned! The lady who worked on my nails rushed my entire appointment. She was rough on my already fragile nails, breaking and scratching them. She only did 2 coats of paint so I can see my nails through the color! And before even asking me how I liked my nails, she moved on to her next client. Comepletely unacceptable!

This may not be the nicest of salons, but it is on of my favorites. The ladies are always very kind, but most importantly they do a great job. I’ve probably tried over 20 different salons in San Diego and sure, other places may be nicer (and more expensive) but nowhere have I found that they take more time and care, especially on the pedicures. I can not comment on their acrylic nails because I have never gotten them done here, but for a spa mani/​pedi this is a great place. Overall, clean place, good prices, excellent attention to detail, and kind service. Only reason it’s missing a star is for the décor and ambiance of the place, that could use some work.
