Yet another case like the other bad reviews below. Went in for a cleaning and ended up with a $ 600 dollar bill because they didn’t check the insurance standards and practices. Luckily Christine «retired» a couple months ago and left her office to another dentist, but the issue wasn’t only her. Her staff only cares about overcharging you for everything. 120 $ (which i paid upfront) to fill a cavity after my insurance… that’s ridiculous.

I would avoid this dentist like a plague. I was a long time patient until I started getting infections. Apparently it is the patient’s responsibility to continuously followup on prior complains of pain. If you forget and pain fester into infections, they laugh about how many patients recently they have had with bone loss infections. EEK! I hate that they continue to call me to «reschedule» my appointment — even though I haven’t been there in 2 years. Anything to get you into the door I suppose. This place reeks of desperation. Yes, I used to think she is great too. You’ve been warned.

I’ve been a patient of this office for about 9 years now, and I can say with certainty that I’ve gotten the best care around. Dr. Evans and her staff hold themselves to a high standard and take pride in their work, and are all lovely people on top of that!

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for Dr. Evans yet. I have been a patient since I moved here in 2009. I have some pretty fickle teeth that need a lot of attention. Ive had multiple fillings with Dr. Evans and now a crown and she is THE BEST. I am always pretty nervous getting my teeth worked on but every time she puts me at ease and does a fantastic job.
Better yet, after every procedure she calls to follow up and make sure I am doing well. Thats amazing.
The entire staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. I have recommended Dr. Evans to friends who have also become patients who sing her praises.
I’m very lucky that I have found Dr. Evans and her staff. They are the best.

The only reason this office is getting one star, is for the sweet hygienist Irene. I recently took my two children to this dental practice. What a horrible experience that was. I have never experienced a medical professional who is so rude and has absolutely no bedside manner, especially when dealing with children. Not only did this woman manage to insult my kid’s brushing habits (which are tricky when you have braces) she did so with a look of disgust on her face. As she was examining their teeth, she would make loud sounds of disgust and make comments on how filthy their teeth were. The sweet hygienist Irene, had just gotten done complementing my 14 year old son on how good his teeth land gums looked, as he had just had his braces off. Then Dr. Evans goes on her tirade of the despicable state of my sons teeth and gums. This woman is so rude, I don’t know how anyone pays to be tortured and insulted by her. The only reason I will go back, is if my sons self esteem is too high and it needs to be brought down, which I can’t see ever happening. Or if they just need a good cry, as after their appointments both my kids were on the verge of tears. Way to make a kid look forward to visiting the dentist. I’m sure her colleagues appreciate how she is contributing to the reputation of dentists being someone we all look forward to seeing, NOT!

I just came in for a simple teeth whitening today, and Catherine helped me out today. Such a sweetheart, along with the entire staff. Dr. Evans made sure she came by and said hello. Did I mention I have been a patient for 8 years and Dr. Evans always makes time to carefully check my teeth and always has good recommendations and gentle care. I’ve always followed her recommendations and now I don’t have any work to do! So here I am with not only whiter teeth but also healthy teeth! Go Dr. Evans!!! Love you girls

I just had an appointment with Dr Evans and I had a great experience. Being from out of town looking for a dentist is not an easy thing to do. However every one was friendly and the front office was helpful when it came to getting my insurance figured out. I really appreciate the way I was taken care.

I am a new patient at Carmel Valley Dental and it’s such a relief to go to the dentist now because entire staff there is dedicated to the customer. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by name and didn’t have to wait to begin my appointment. Dr Evens made me feel comfortable and very well taken care of. She explained everything to me as she worked. it was a quick and pain free visit from start to finish, I highly recommend Carmel Valley Dental.

I’ll preface this rather scathing review by sharing my belief that Christine Evans seems to be a good dentist. She was able to isolate some issues with my bite and my enamel, and she performed a good, painless filling. HOWEVER, I agree with past reviewers that her bedside manner is… how shall we put it… crass, at best. She very casually asked me if I was bulimic because my enamel had worn very thin, all within 5 minutes of meeting me (and I’m not, I just have severe acid reflux). ADDITIONALLY, the condescending attitude of the staff and complete lack of communication is abhorrent. My first visit for a standard cleaning was fine (and I really did like the hygienist). However, I went to Dr. Evans because I had previously been told I may need a root canal. I received a consultation and a cleaning, and her staff took x-​rays and said they would follow up to schedule an appointment if something significant showed up. I never received a call.
Fast forward 6 months to my next cleaning. I show up for my morning visit and they tell me that, in addition to my cleaning, I have a filling scheduled because I’ve had a cavity since my last visit…6 MONTHS AGO. I said that, #1: I never received a call to let me know I had a cavity, and #2: I have to be at work right after this appointment. They gave me attitude by saying my teeth are «important.» Well, so is my job. I scheduled a follow up visit to do the filling a few days later.
When I arrived for my filling visit, Dr. Evans sat down with me and sternly reprimanded me for failing to come in for her complimentary evaluation wherein she evaluates the condition of my teeth and that I’ve likely had cavities since the previous cleaning. I told her I would gladly have come in had anyone on her staff called me to let me know I was supposed to come in and that I had cavities. I should point out that, in the past, dentists have been able to tell me if I have a cavity without taking x-​rays but, rather, by examining my teeth.
In addition to the terrible communication, the billing practices are less than stellar. My husband and I were quoted out-​of-​pocket prices, which we paid, only to receive a bill 8 months down the road for hundreds of dollars worth of additional expenses. The detailed ledger shows we are being billed for consultations when we had only scheduled a standard cleaning. To make matters worse, her office manager actually admitted that they charge above what insurance companies believe is «reasonable» for cleanings and, therefore, there are out of pocket expenses for her cleanings. We were never advised of this and I have never in all my life paid anything out-​of-​pocket for a standard cleaning. I was told the filling would cost $ 98 and I paid $ 98 the day of. I then received a bill for an additional $ 166, and the ledger shows insurance covered $ 123. This would mean my one filling cost a whopping $ 387. Finally, my husband and I saw Dr. Evans a cumulative 7 – 8 times between the two of us and we were never once told that we had an unpaid balance, even though I asked. All of a sudden, we are told we have outstanding charges that date back 8 months.
I had one positive visit with this dentist… since then it’s been nothing but bad. This last bill has made me positively livid. For all the positive reviewers, check back in with Unilocal in a year when you’ve received all your outstanding charges for the previous year of treatment.

I am so surprised by some of the bad reviews on here! We moved to San Diego a few years ago and my husband has been going to Dr. Evans. He LOVES her. He has never had such high regard for a dentist in his life. I am thinking some of these reviews are staged…

Dr Evans for the first time in my life identified the REAL problems with my teeth and bite, gave me a comprehensive plan to correct them and rebuild my teeth which were half their normal size from an incorrect bite and grinding. She referred me to the right specialists, and after braces, rebuilt my teeth into a perfect smile. She didn’t withhold information for fear of scaring me away, and didn’t give me any BS about what I really needed to do and how long it would take or how much it would costs.
I repeat, I now have a perfect smile when in all honesty I had a hillbilly grin before. I’ve been seeing her now for about a decade and would recommend, indeed insist, if you want to have nice teeth again, or prevent from having ones that looked like mine did, to see her. The whole staff is professional and courteous, and show real concern for your health. Sounds like a shill review? It’s not. Dr Evans deserves every bit of credit from this real life patient that I can offer. I’ve been to pretty good dentists to complete butchers throughout my life, but she is the only dentist for me now!
I don’t know where these other people giving her bad reviews are coming from. As I’ve said, I’ve been to many dentists over the years. Some bad, some good, but only one who took a real comprehensive scientific approach to my mouths overall health and functionality.

I live in Carmel Valley and was looking for a dentist near my house – so I thought I would give this practice a try. From the minute I walked in I had a bad feeling about the place. The hygienist was selling me on some laser cleaning for my gums like a used car salesman. As a new patient Dr. Christine Evan’s went through each tooth and at the end said I had not one, but two cavities. I was certain I did not have a cavity and asked her to point them out to me. She said I needed to make a follow-​up appointment to go over my «results» and also they would let me know how much PPO insurance I had for the year – oh and I also needed to schedule an apt for my two cavities. Her office called me days later multiple times to schedule my cavity apts. A weel later I went back to my regular dentist that I have been seeing religiously for 15 yrs. He promised me that I absolutely did not have ANY cavities. He went through each tooth again including x-​rays. I was seriously sick to my stomach thinking that Dr. Evans was going to drill into my teeth for absolutely no reason. Stay away from this place!!! This is the lowest of lowes for a dentist.

This woman is HORRIBLE. Never, ever go here and avoid this place at all costs. The only thing this person is concerned with ripping you off for anything she can get. I moved to San Diego last year and decided to give this place a try… HUGE MISTAKE. She told me I had 7 cavities when I came in for a simple cleaning… when my last dentist to whom I had gone to for years and years had previously told me I was fine. I didn’t believe her and double checked with another, much more trust worthy dentist in Del Mar who guaranteed me I had no cavities. To this day, still no cavities. This woman is a liar.
To top it off, their office is now… 1 year and 2 months after my last visit… calling me and telling me that I owe them $ 99 due to my insurance policy not paying them. It took you THAT long to figure it out? Clearly this place is going out of business and I look forward to that day.

I no longer dread going to the dentist!!! Dr. Evans and her staff are awesome! I have had crowns, fillings changed, and Invisaligns with great results. It’s nice to be in a place in my life where I can invest in my dental health and have a great dentist.

The best dentist and dental staff EVER! We travel a lot and finally had to find a dentist while we were in San Diego for 6 weeks. My 5 & 3 year old loved the experience and although I had to have lots of work done I have to say I did NOT dread any of it. Excellent touch — tremendously friendly and professional staff. In fact when we finally got settled in one place for a few years it was in West L.A. — but we still went down to Dr. Evans (more than 2 hours away) because it is the BEST!

This is by far the best dental place I’ve ever been to. The staff is prompt, professional and accomodating. They treat you super well. (I’m not related to or friends with anyone here by the way — promise). They’re super thorough.
