Me and a friend went in one late afternoon and the barmaid(found out later her name is Jennifer) staggered up to us smashed out of her mind slurring incoherently. After listening real closely a few times I figured out she was saying she couldn’t serve us cause we smelled like pot. She was mistaken. Amazing that someone so drunk that she couldn’t find her own ass with both hands, would refuse service to anyone. Don’t know how or why she is employed working with people and alcohol.

Yes Yes Yes I love Cheers. Super dive, funky, sell cigarettes and have a live crowd on the weekends. I’ll keep coming back due to the cool bartenders and the atmosphere. Says it’s a gay bar but it’s pretty mixed in my opinion. 50⁄50 ratio. Come by and end your night of getting lit by getting a little ratchet too.

So I came here for a drink after work and the drunk bartender(her name was Jen) thought I was drunk because I was limping due to an injury. Long story short, man she was one hell of a bitter c*nt. I remembered why I stopped coming.

Kevin was AWESOME! We’ve never had a better experience at this bar. It’s small and there was a good crowd of people there, but Kevin was quick to greet us and get us our drinks. I got vodka as usual, and Kevin’s pours NEVER disappoint. All in all, had a great time with my friends… great bartender, great place, great vodka!

Love this place even though one of the new bartenders is not nice.

Rad little watering hole. It’s a very small dive bar with a pool table and a lot of familiar faces. Not the bar you’re looking for if you want laser shows, loud music, and grinding. In fact, that’s exactly why I like it. The drinks are pretty cheap. I recall buying everyone in my group of 4 a drink, and I was shocked to see that the tab was under $ 20. The only drawback is the selection of beers is limited. Other than that, you won’t regret stopping by for some pool and hanging out with the regulars.

The bartender Kevin pours«non-alcoholic» drinks when you dont expect it. Clearly… hes does not give a you know what. When u come in and order a drink, double check your drink. Whatever happen to customer service? Its just sad when a bartender just thinks their customers are incompetent. 6÷15÷2015.

I love this place! The staff here is amazing and I always have a good experience here. The customers are just as social and it never has drama. The mixed drinks are on the stronger side but that is never a complaint to me. I love that everyday(including weekends) it’s never to packed in here so I can comfortably talk with my friends.

I like Cheers. I like Cheers because it is dark, divey, and has a pooltable. The drinks are strong and cheap, it’s never packed, and the bartenders are great. I’m honestly only giving this place three stars because it isn’t a 5-star bar, if you know what I mean. You wouldn’t go here if I gave it 5 stars, because you are a person looking for booze and a little seedier atmosphere than down the street at Small Bar. We go there when we want to enjoy craft beers and bar food. We come here when we want to drink. Go to Cheers and let your wallet rejoice.

* Big, strong, cheap drinks — Check! * Dark and Divey — Check! * Sassy Bartenders — Check! * Juke Box and Pool Tables — Check! * Gay-and-Straight Friendly — Check, Check and Check! * Friendly Regulars — Check! * Located near other hot-spots — Check! * Food — No, but El Zarape is right around the corner and you can bring it in.(Counting that as a Check!) Yup, it’s got everything I look for in a bar! And that’s why I keep coming back. I’m a fan.

I had a fun time. Came here with with dudes who like dudes. Everyone was friendly. Affordable drinks. It’s dark, has a culture of its own, and it definitely seems like a local regular bar. I’m usually next door but I’ll be back with the dudes who like dudes.

Big fan of Cheers. How can you not be, really? Well, unless you’re too uptight. Then, I get it. But, if you are a regular, cool person, you’ll like Cheers for its jukebox, breezy vibe with great windows, lots of seats and ease of getting a drink. No offense, but don’t bother with the negative reviews; they are pretty worthless and not indicative of this place at all. There couldn’t be an easier place to get a drink with a more welcoming vibe. Gay or not… it is irrelevant as long as you are a nice, non-uptight person.

If you’re looking for a dance floor, upscale drinks and craft beer, sadly you’ve arrived at the wrong place. If looking for a friendly environment, cheap drinks and good music from the jukebox, you’ll be welcomed warmly. It’ a pretty cozy environment with a handful of tall tables and a nice bar and pool table. There’s a small alley for smokers. Wells Wednesdays is a great deal when your wallet is running low!

I have lived in San Diego and have been to Cheers many times in the years that I’ve lived here. Each time has been a decent experience up until this last visit. On Saturday night, 12÷27÷14, my partner, myself and two of my friends decided to go get some drinks. When we got to Cheers at around 8pm, there were probably about 5 – 10 other people in the bar and there was no music playing. As we got ready to play pool, I went to the juke box and put $ 10 in. The jukebox is newer and is the type where you can either choose to play your song when its order in line comes up, or for a few extra credits, you can play your song right away. Since no music had been playing all of my songs began playing right away. Being part Mexican and knowing that my friends also enjoy Latin music, we picked songs by Latin artists. During the third song, I heard Jennifer, the bartender on staff that night, say, «I’m so f*cking tired of these Mexican Hat Dance songs» and then she grabbed her phone(which obviously had a control to the juke box and she began to play her own music. My partner and I immediately confronted her and at first she was argumentative about what happened– and appeared to be pretty drunk at that point. But after enough persistence, which included us letting her know how disrespectful, racist and what poor customer service she was displaying, as well as telling her that we’d be writing a Unilocal review– she apologized and then offered us free shots, which we turned down. While we were outside(on the bar patio) smoking cigarettes, we could see her talking to other customers inside, obviously, about what had happened. I’m really disappointed that this would happen at a place that we have frequented many times in the past and have always felt safe and welcomed at. After this last visit, however, I doubt we will be going back. I know that people make mistakes but this is one that no employee of a business that serves the public should make– let alone a gay dive bar that aims to make people feel comfortable and included. Cheers should really consider who they are employing, especially when they are unprofessional and make loyal customers not want to come back.

Mickey(Micky?) is awesome. There I was, drinking a glass of water from a straw between beers. Then Mickey walked up, snatched the straw, and threw it away. I looked at her inquisitively. «You’re too manly for a straw,» she said. And you know what? She was right. I appreciated that. And I still do. Mickey, you are just the coolest. Seriously. Even though this bar is a good 7 miles and 15 minutes from my neighborhood, I will be back. For sure. Thank you

Just stood at the bar for 10 minutes and was completely ignored before I walked out so I can’t give you a good review on the drinks. One guy outside seemed to really like the vodka-cranberry and said they had a strong pour. The bouncer laughed at my joke, which is also a good sign. Maybe if I came in more and just stood at the corner of the bar for a few evenings in a row they might acknowledge my presence and take my order. Or maybe I’ll just walk down to Lei Lounge like I did tonight. The drink here is delicious, by the way.

2 dollar tall mugs of beer. Friendly crowd. Sparse but quiet. Again cheap liquor.
