Great food, great atmosphere, awesome service! I really enjoyed the outside seating, dinning while hearing the live music play. Drinks are awesome!!! Must stop & visit while in San Diego! Will be coming back !!!

I was so pleasantly surprised and happy with my experience at Casa De Reyes! The atmosphere: Beautiful! I did not realize the restaurant layout was gong to be so nice with shops and a park setting. The seating is outdoors, and even with our«winter» weather and a light drizzle we were cozy under our umbrella with the outdoor heaters on. The service: Incredible! Our server, Justin, was thorough from greeting to signing the bill! He recommended amazing items off the menu and went above and beyond excellent service to make sure that my mom’s birthday was celebrated well! When I go back, I will request to sit in his section! The food: Tasty! I read some ok reviews before going in, so I wasn’t expecting such a culinary delight. We ordered the mole, enchiladas, some cheese dip, guacamole, salsa… then these amazing little custard filled churros that you dip in melted chocolate… OMG. Also the flan was perfect. The drinks: We ordered two of the large margaritas one at a time to share at our table. It was a great birthday celebration. I recommend this place, and I will definitely be back again.

I get how someone looking for«true» Mexican may dismiss this place as touristy. But my limited experience in Old Town is they are mostly all a bit touristy. So why not go to the restaurant in the center of the park with outdoor seating in the plaza and live entertainment? Our experience was the service was very good and the food just above average(enchiladas). Yes, I’m an out of towner, but this hit my buttons for what I was looking for. There, I’m done trying to justify myself. I enjoyed it here and would go back.

Casa De Reyes is nicely located in historic old town San Diego. This place is actually a bit off the beaten path as far as restaurants are concerned but the vibe and overall ambiance is actually fairly genuine. There is a ton of outdoor seating, good music and decent service. The food itself was actually fairly average and the portions were a bit on the small side, not including their giant margaritas lol, these things are like a gallon by volume. Had the chili verde, it was meh, tortillas were ok, chips were good and salsa was average. Pros– Location Ambiance/vibe Service Giant margaritas Indoor/outdoor seating Live performances nearby Cons– Average food taste Portions a bit small Parking is always a pain

Why does this place have such a low rating?! This place is awesome its in the Mecca of Olde Town San Diego when walking to this place you’ll be prone to stopping by the cute little stores they have right next to it. Looking for a good place to walk and eat on wonderful sunny atmosphere, come to this place. The place is outdoor seating which is so cute! It really feels like your on vacation. I had the seafood tostada which was yummazing, the seafood was fresh and they give you a decent amount. The shrimps were enormous and the lettuce was fresh.

I actually enjoyed my visit at Casa De Reyes. I’ll admit, the menu is not as extensive as other Mexican restaurants of the same caliber, but I suppose it doesn’t matter when the food is great. And kudos to whoever came up with the idea to throw seasoning on their chips; they were amazing. The chicken taquito appetizers were also out of this world. The only issue you may have is the outside seating, most of the seating is like this. I’m sure it’s nice during most of the year, but on a cold winter night, this is a problem. Will I come back? Damn skippy!

I’ve been coming here for years and will say that this place has seriously declined in my opinion. The food is ok, but the drinks are not worth the price anymore«which is why I use to come here a lot». The drinks specifically the«Cadillac margaritas» are $ 15, but I get better ones down the street for $ 10. I’ve seen the decline on the quality through out the year, but didn’t expect it to decline as bad as it has. I hope you guys could turn it around as this was my favorite place to drink and always recommended to everyone that I know, but know it has become the last place on my list

Super cool here. A large restaurant sits in the middle with outside seating surrounded by the shops at Casa De Reyes. An outdoor shopping mall with lots of trees that make it feel like you’re in Mexico. A few of the shops include a coffee shop, gift shop, nursery, olive oil store, hot sauce store and more. Live entertainment here almost daily. Mariachi music and florocio dancing. Very cool place to visit and shop. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but it was busy. Also, there is a woman making tortillas here. I think she was with the restaurant. One free tortilla person. We were still full from lunch so didn’t have one but I’m sure they were delicious.

Great ambiance. I was surprised that El Fandango was closed, so became a bit concerned that I was making my dad walk all over to find a restaurant. But lo and behold, nestled in the center of the Fiesta De Reyes, we found Case de Reyes, a bustling restaurant that provides great Mexican food and live music while you wait. I also liked their use of the NoWait app that allows you to track your spot in line… and the fact that they text you to let you know when your table is ready. The wait was about 30 – 40 mins for dinner on a Saturday night, but it felt like it went quickly. There’s a cash bar near the band, and seating, so it was pretty comfortable. Also, it’s surrounded by cute little shops, so 30 minutes is pretty easy to spend by browsing around too. The fire pylon heaters added a nice glow and welcome heat. The servers were hopping and right on task with everything we needed. We all loved our food. I got a plain bean and cheese burrito, so nothing too exciting, but tasty and exactly what I wanted… Others at my table got 2 item enchiladas and nachos and they said they were great. Everything looked good. Margaritas were excellent. I really liked the feel of the place. Felt fun and a good place to take someone who had not been to San Diego before.

We want here on Dia de los muertos this year and it was packed. I think the food was great, the drinks were good… The quoted wait time was an hour off. I’d rather hear the truth than hear what they think I want to hear. Going on this day a long wait is expected. I plan on trying it again on a less crowded day. They do need to spruce up the restroom and keep it clean.

Tasty Americanized Mexican food. It’s a touristy place but it’s not bad given their circumstances. We love the little shops that line the perimeter central restaurant. Service and food were good with the exception of the deep fried ice cream. Seriously, that dessert had the texture of rolled, soggy granola around a vanilla ice cream«snowball»

Came here on Saturday afternoon around 3:30−4 pm. Was showing a friend from out of town around and decided to try this place for a late lunch/early dinner. We got sat right away. Lovely outdoor patio, the décor was nice. They brought us chips and salsa right away! Service was decent. We ordered: — Carnitas plate with flour tortillas — steak fajitas with flour tortillas — strawberry and mango margaritas — check was almost $ 60.00 for everything I would say they are a bit pricey here(we went to sushi the night before and spent less and we had alcoholic drinks at sushi as well). My girl friend had to salt her fajitas dish a bit. The tortillas here weren’t the best I ever tasted. The carnitas were pretty good, pretty big portions, I couldn’t finish all my food! As for the margaritas, they didn’t taste like they had much tequila in it. Definitely a touristy area. Good spot to bring out of town friends and family.

Atmosphere; adorable! Tons of outdoor seating with live authentic music, gorgeous landscaping and an overall feel-good vibe that starts the meal off right before you even sit down. Casa de Reyes is located within fiesta Reyes which is home to a few small businesses that all bring a nice ambience. Service; our waitress was wonderful. There were 10 of us and we definitely were not low maintenance and she did a great job keeping up with our drink orders and brought our tequila shots with lots of extra lime and a good attitude. The servers here dress in beautiful Mexican-style dresses which make the experience even more enjoyable. Edibles; the drinks were amazing. The house margarita was perfectly strong without the sicky taste of bottled margarita mix. The food was by far the best I’ve tried in San Diego so far. A little pricey, but worth it. I had a combo dinner with a chile relleno & a shrimp enchilada with white sauce. They were both amazing!!! All others at the table were really happy with their meals as well.

Last year we went to Old Town and this year we almost stayed in Old Town. It’s very festive. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a little Mexican food and entertainment. We love the stage at Fiesta de Reyes. It’s wonderful. Instead of just sitting and watching the show we got a table for dinner. I don’t know if Casa De Reyes is more expensive than other places due to the live entertainment. What I do know is they produce quality entertainment and a variety of it. We recognize one of the bands from last time as they were so unique. It’s not too loud or annoying. I love it. Dinner outside was nice. We sat next to the fountain on a high table the perfect table for people watching. In the process of trying to get situated I nearly tossed everything off the table into fountain. Apparently the uneven ground wasn’t working in my favor. They make fresh tortilla there which is a perk. The food was plentiful and tasty. I do wish they gave out a different salsa to go with the chips, but that’s me. The chips are really fresh. I believe they are made on site. And if you are a Caltrans worker you get a discount with your badge. That is so cool.

We took the trolley to Old Town today for lunch at Casa De Reyes. We ordered the Reyes Appetizer Plate: Nachos, cheese quesadilla, rolled chicken tacos and guacamole enough to share and a pitcher of Margarita served in one huge glass with two straws. The meal, margarita and chips and salsa were very good but the service today was just okay. Our waiter was not very attentive, any time we needed any thing(like water, napkins, more chips and salsa) we had to flag down another waiter/waitress. Needless to say I was disappointed in the service but the food and atmosphere were great.

My family has been going to Casa De Reyes every visit to San Diego we’ve made for as long as I can remember and I still go back every time I’m in town. The ambiance simply can’t be beaten! There’s ton of outdoor seating, fire pits, and a mariachi band that plays live music on the stage outside. It’s fun to explore Old Town and Fiesta De Reyes(the plaza the restaurant is in) while you wait for a table or after your meal too! The food here is delicious, starting with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are lightly seasoned and the salsa has a great kick to it! I’d recommend getting some guacamole to start too. My favorite thing on the menu is the Combinations De Reyes because you can choose from a few different types of soft/crunchy tacos, tamales, or enchiladas, and they all come with rice and beans. It’s a great way to try a few different things and everything is so tasty! I’m not even usually a big fan of rice and beans but I love them here. Their portion sizes are large too; don’t be ashamed if you can’t finish it all because you just ate your weight in chips and salsa before you got your actual meal. I’ve also tried the margaritas here and the«regular» sized one I ordered was massive. We were joking about how big the larger sizes must be! Trust me, it’s definitely not a bad thing… but something worth pointing out cause it’s a great bang for your buck. All that being said, even though Casa De Reyes may be in a super touristy area, it’s always worth the visit!

The ambiance: The outdoor Old Town atmosphere is great. Entertainment is fun. Fire pits and flame heaters. Funny waiters. Great overall. The food: Love the chips, seasoned with chili powder. The salsa is quite tame. Nothing to get excited about. We ordered an assortment of items this visit. The red enchilada sauce at best lacked flavor and was not nearly plentiful enough on the plate. An enchilada should not be dry. A chicken soft taco we ordered had not been properly drained and, while tasty, immediately fell apart in the hand from excess fluid. Gross and a major, major, major, pet peeve. A chile relleno was delicious, but talked back to the diner after the fact. A mixed bag overall. While we were underwhelmed by the food, we still enjoyed our early evening dinner. A funny waiter was key. The entertainment on the neighboring stage helped too. And just how bad can a meal be sitting outdoors on a calm night in San Diego? Risking a little uneven food is not a bad tradeoff for such a great atmosphere. It had been a couple of years since we had eaten at Casa de Reyes and I suspect that it will be a couple of years before we return. But we will return.

The restaurants of Old Town San Diego all have a certain degree of kitsch. Casa de Reyes is no different. Luckily the service is good and the food is definitely above average. I was in town for a meeting so a stop in Old Town is required. The atmosphere is inviting and who can beat sitting outside in February to have dinner? The place was busy but we were seated right away. The ability to quickly turn over tables is the sign of a well-run spot and Casa de Reyes turned tables quickly. The fresh chips and salsa was very good. For my main, I had the carnitas platter. The pork was tender and serving size was just right. My friend had the combo platter with pork tamales, beef taco, and shrimp enchilada. His platter was equally delicious. To be honest, I’m always concerned that the Old Town restaurants are just a tourist trap but they are consistently filled with locals and tourists alike. My experience tonight highlights one of the true must have experiences in San Diego.
