What an unorganized mess. We had a large group and our waitress asked for our order, didn’t write it down, and then returned to confirm twice but had it wrong each time. If only there was a way to write down orders so that you don’t have to memorize fifteen different items… hmm, if only. This is definitely a hole in the wall but they are serving up authentic mexican dishes; caldo, birria, sopes, chicharron, etc. stuff you won’t find at a taco shop. I had the red chilaquiles, it was a big plate with a side of rice and beans for about six bucks. They were great, nice and spicy. So spicy, though, that I was sweating like a pig on his way to becoming carnitas! Plenty of seating available but gets full, especially on weekends. And it’s cash only but there’s an ATM inside.

I can’t ever come here again no matter what bribes they try to give us we didn’t even have cooked food. I ordered two carnitas tacos the tacos didn’t come out after they gave the people behind us there food and then my friend finally ate I had order the posle and it was still hard and it came out to us very hot and served to quickly it.

We had the sopes, and al pastor burrito and it was excellent. Very authentic! We also sampled the carnitas and it was also very good. Definitely recommend!

Nice people working there and food always tasty and freshly made. The carne asades fries were horrible but that’s better From Santanas drive through next door. I have eaten here many times after leaving the Kroc center across the street. The only thing I did not like were the fries. I think their food is terrific and the prices very reasonable. Not the prettiest place i have eaten in but definitely one of the friendliest… buy carnitas by the pound you won’t be disappointed.

It was alright. First of all where the Unilocal maps shows the location is wrong. The true location is east of where it shows on the map tucked away in a little corner store location. Good luck calling for directions my English wasn’t getting me by and had to pretty much find the place on my own. The carnitas was decent, I got a burrito. As I was eating it I thought I should’ve got tacos, the burrito was boring, really nothing special. Place is definitely a hole in the wall Mexican spot, but you know the ones with the nice little salsa bar with all the fixings. That was a plus.

Always great Mexican food. Carne Asada and breakfast Burritos are lovely. Nice folks and service for your hole in the wall dining scene. Use the drive through on the regular. Top notch

Muy delicioso! Definitely your classic hole in the wall restaurant. The owner there doesn’t know English very well but boy does he make me feel welcome. He’s usually at the cash register and will chop up your carnitas in front of you. They give you a free carnitas taco while you wait so BONUS. I usually order the 1lbs carnitas. They come with a plate of rice, beans, and unlimited tortillas. UNLIMITEDTORTILLASSS. Its enough for 2 – 3 people, can make about 8 tacos total. Go crazy with the carrots because they are soooo good. The horchata complements the meal so well. The décor is very warming with colorful. They have a sauce bar so knock yourself out! Make sure you bring cash because this place is cash only!

The best pollo asado quesadilla. The chicken is juicy and well grilled. Can’t wait to come back and try something else from the menu!

This place is Good! Like really Since they closed the Carnitas Urupan in Lemon Grove we searched for somewhere just as good. I’ve been seeing people on fb and one day I just had to go and they give you a complimentary taco to try and boy oh boy that put the icing on the cake ! So juicy tender and filled with so much flavor ! I found my new spot !

I feel really bad because this place is in my neighborhood and I have heard nothing but good things about it, so I really wanted to like it. However, my entire family was not impressed. When we first walked in, it smelled terrible. Maybe that should have been our first red flag, but no, we stayed and ordered. While waiting my daughter had to use the restroom, YUCK. Maybe that should have been red flag number two, but we continued to give it the benefit of the doubt. Our carne asada burrito and carnitas burrito were disgusting. Our carnitas had cartilage and gristle in it. The flavor was that of the disgusting smell in the restaurant. Never again. You can have it, not our cup of tea.

This is definitely not your sanitized version of Mexican food — this is literally hole in the wall dining. But if you love your carnitas, with fat and skin and all, this is the place to go. They give you a carnitas taco while you wait as a service(and they are really really nice too) while they pack up your delicious, moist and decadent pork up to go. Also — awesome fixin’s(not just an afterthought!) = Pickled carrots(so garlicky/oregano-y and delicious) as well as red/green salsa that actually has flavor and is spicy! Not the watery orange/red stuff you get at your typical taco shop.

Best carnitas in SD!!! They have the authentic flavor from Michoacan, birthplace of carnitas. And guess what??? They also have other awesomely authentic options!!! Menudo, tacos, sopes! It’s all fantastic! — Their menudo is my favorite for brunch on Sunday. Feeling a little adventurous??? Try a taco de moronga. It’s a pig’s blood and organs delicacy!!! It’s spicy, fresh, and yummy!!!(Try the taco, if you love it, then get a plate next time. If you don’t, you didn’t lose much) Only thing missing is a nice cold beer. But I can find that anywhere. Fabulously delicious Mexican food with the authentic taste from Michoacan??? Only here.(Solo aqui!)

Traveled from Seattle to San Diego in search of good Mexican food. This place is awesome! Enjoyed Carnitas tacos, pickled carrots, onions and cilantro. Wish I had room for more… mmmm so good. I would suggest a bathroom remodel or good clean when the opportunity arises.

Wanted different Mexican dishes. Not totally impressed. Flavor was like any typical Mexican restaurant. The employees there are awesome, they make you feel comfortable and give you a homey environment feeling. The fresh drinks are soooo good.

This place makes some pretty good carnitas at a very fair price. I was able to get a single combo plate for one, at $ 7 and some change, which came with a good pile of warm pork, re-fired beans, some rice, and guacamole and a variety of salsas and corn tortillas as well.( ) The carnitas were very tender with a few crunchy pieces here and their. They were seasoned lightly and cooked down so that the meat was stringy and easy to pull apart.( ) I no doubt used the warm corn tortillas to make me some tacos. I made four, and had some with the red hot sauce which was mild with good flavor( ) and one with green salsa which was light and tasty.( ) The beans were very good, probably because they were made with lard, as the server told me. The were creamy and had that great robust flavor.( ) The rice was equally as good. It was light, well seasoned, and had a good fluffy texture.( ) One area I did think they need to do better, was their guacamole given it was a little watery.( ) They also make a variety of other good Mexican Foods, but from what I hear and taste, their carnitas are it. The owner and his crew are very hospitable and eager to make you feel at home. Here piggy piggy…
