We were a large party of about 25 women. We have special needs, as we are all on business travel, and needed to have separate checks. In calling around to several restaurants, many wanted us to choose from a select menu or didn’t want to seat us all at the same time. Blue Point was friendly from our first conversation with them. Once we arrived, the world class service began right away. Mark and Elliot were our primary waiters and Judson(we kept calling him Son of Judd) responded positively to our every whim. I am sure we had almost everything on the menu, from the scallops, to the oysters to their version of the surf and turf. Everyone enjoyed their food and the martinis were also spot on! Thanks for capping off our leadership conference by providing us with a wonderful dining experience!

The seafood was not to my liking the night I went, although the service is excellent. The duck is ok. Not sure the food justified the price.

Fantastic. We were here for restaurant week and it was simply fabulous. The lobster bisque was to die for. Dessert was amazing and my salmon was cooked to perfection. Excellent service, great location and delicious food. Thank you for an unforgettable meal, we truly enjoyed it!!! We paid 120. For 2 people, but very worth it!

Had such high hopes for Blue Point… had been here a few years ago with a friend, the same friend that celebrated her birthday with me last week, 2÷17÷16, but high expectations were not met. Started with cocktails, our server Christopher greeted us after a bit(too long, for starters, maybe 5 – 8 minutes, we got there at 6:00 pm, dining room was pretty quiet). We had the Cherry Mule for her($ 13.00) and Aperol fizz for me, same price. Tasty… expensive and expected, both in quality and quantity. A decent cocktail to be sure. As this was a birthday celebration, we went for the Osetra caviar($ 120.00), smoked fish trio($ 16.00) and a glass of Roederer Brut each($ 18.00). It was expected that everything would come out at the same time. It didn’t. I brought it to Christopher’s attention, and while apologetic, we were well into our first piece of fish before the caviar arrived. Caviar was great, the smoked salmon was great… the other two fishes were VERY dry, and if I had to take a guess, were Lassco packed and left open, which will dry the fish out fast. Not expensive, relatively speaking, but not great either. Really dampened my enthusiasm. We had a half bottle of Grgich Merlot($ 47.00) and split a short rib($ 38.00). Delicious three bites of short rib, sort of smallish for a shared entrée. My friend enjoyed it, but shared similar observations about the meal with me, which was a bit of a bummer. With a generous tip, bill was just short of $ 400.00, and I won’t be back. Come ON Cohn Restaurant Group!!! Up the game, what was wonderful in San Diego 20 years ago is now JUST acceptable. This is the third underwhelming visit paid to a CRG establishment in less than 6 months.

Best seafood I’ve ever had. Over $ 300 for two after a bottle of wine, appetizers, entrees and dessert, but very well worth it!

The ambiance is great here and the service is perfect. I had Susan as my waitress and she was very attentive and did a great job. They have a great liquor selection and the cocktails I ordered were all prepared correctly. My only issue was this place was the food. I started with the Caesar salad with anchovies which was pretty good for a creamy Caesar dressing. The bread that was brought out was delicious as was the Amuse Bouche sent out«by the chef» of a tuna tartare. For my main course I selected the Yellowtail and Octopus«duo». I don’t believe this combination worked. The octopus wasn’t prepared corectly and wasn’t served at the right temperature in my opinion and didn’t really go with the ragout it was served with. The yellowtail was seared perfectly but the«tomato-ish» sauce didn’t really compliment the fish. I would definitely come back and try another dish as overall my experience here was great.

One of the best crab cakes I’ve had. Light, not fried and balanced with a touch of acidity. We both ordered the beef n reef. Meat was cooked to perfection and the lobster was delicious. Excellent service at the bar. Will be back.

Was seated at a small table for two with half my seat bumping into a wall column, so it was awkward. The main entrees take a while to come out so make sure to order some appetizers(oysters). We ordered the pan seared scallops and beef and lobster dishes. The scallops were OK I just had to complement them with the soft bread to fill myself up. The lobster wrapped in the egg rolls though was a fail. Not the best way to highlight the fresh taste of lobster =(The bread came out after the appetizer. The bread did not have a crunchy exterior like most breads do, it was just all over soft. The little salmon surprise compliments of the chef was nice. Service was good.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my birthday and they really went out of their way to make me feel accommodated and special! Service: 5⁄5 Right from the start, they were providing top-notch service. They have a doorman to open the door for you as you walk inside. You will be greeted by two nice hostesses and promptly seated. At least that was my experience! Since we arrived early for our reservation, we were seated at the bar upon request so we could enjoy their HH. After HH, we were seated at our reserved table and greeted by Abby, our waitress. She was spectacular! She had great knowledge of the menu and was a doll the entire time. Our drinks were always filled, our table was always cleared at the right times, and we were consistently checked on. Loved Abby! Ambiance: 4.5÷5 The atmosphere is definitely a romantic one. The lighting is dim and the noise level is quiet to moderate. It never got too loud. I would definitely come here for special and intimate occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays. Price: 4⁄5 We came a bit early and they were right in the middle of their HH so we jetted straight to the bar. Their house red and white wines were for $ 5 each so we ordered one of each. Not bad! Also, do not skip out on their $ 1 oysters! They are juicy, plump, and delectable. After HH, we were seated at a booth and ordered from their regular dinner menu. IMO, their items were quite pricy(i.e., lobster oscar $ 48), but then again it’s DTSD. I wouldn’t come here for just any meal, but it’s perfect for special occasions when you’re okay with splurging. Food: 5⁄5 Every item I tried was amazing! I was completely enamored with their crab stuffed squash blossoms($ 10HH price). I would have loved to have ordered a second plate of these. After enjoying their HH and being seated at the booth, Abby offered us an amuse bouche, which was a grilled tomato on toast with a basil aioli sauce. Next, we ordered the lobster bisque. This is must-try item here! Every mouthful was decadent, smooth, and full of lobster flavor. For my entrée, I ordered Lobster Oscar with creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes(it comes with two sides of your choosing). Everything on this plate was delicious, including the sides. I was really in love with the sides I chose. My bf ordered their Lobster Risotto, which was also good but didn’t shine as much next to the Lobster Oscar. To end the night, Abby brought out a complimentary birthday dessert: a rich chocolate cake accompanied by mango sorbet. Just like everything else we had, their dessert was spectacular! In the end, I had a night I will never forget. They treated me with such generosity and the food was perfection. I would love to come back especially for those squash blossoms and $ 1 oysters again!

This was an amazing dining experience from start to finish. I ventured here with my boyfriend and sister in law who was here from out of town, as my last attempt at Restaurant Week. Making a reservation was a breeze on opentable, and when we arrived, we were promptly escorted to our table– a very comfortable booth. The restaurant has a very trendy, yet comfortable vibe. It feels expensive, but not in a pretentious way. The best part was when the server pointed to the restrooms under a huge swordfish wall decoration(surprisingly not as tacky as it sounds). We had an assistant server who greeted us almost immediately, and our regular server, Susan, was helpful, attentive, and friendly in a genuine way. We started with the complimentary amuse-bouche, which was a fantastic bite of crustini with tomato and some sort of spread that was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the French Elder cocktail, which was grey goose la poire, st. germaine, fresh lemon, house made orange bitters, and champagne. The great thing about their cocktails is that they are served as a double, so you don’t feel like you’re getting totally ripped off by paying $ 13 each… and it was fresh and delicious! We all opted for the restaurant week deal, which consisted of an appetizer, entrée, and dessert for a flat $ 40 each. As if the three course meal wasn’t enough food, first they presented us with a basket of warm, fluffy, perfectly seasoned bread– with a side of whipped butter that was essentially heaven in a bowl. We all ordered a different appetizer, one of each of the kale salad, lobster bisque, and the crab cake. The lobster bisque was perfectly creamy, and was only barely topped by the crab cake, which was melt-in-your-mouth. I could’ve eaten 100 of those crab cakes. The kale salad was good, but nothing compares to the other appetizers. For entrees, I ordered the shrimp and mussels pappardelle, and my dining partners both ordered the lobstered salmon. The pasta was delicious, with just the right about of sauce, and plentiful shrimp and mussels. I really appreciated how they focused on the seafood and overall flavor, rather than loading up the dish with unnecessary pasta. The lobstered salmon was ridiculous in the best possible way. I really don’t care for salmon at all, and I even enjoyed the bites I had. The server was explaining that they vacuum seal lobster with the salmon and cook them together, so the salmon really absorbs the lobster flavor. The salmon was also served with mashed potatoes made by the gods. Buttery, garlicky, salty, in the most balanced way I could imagine. If we weren’t stuffed enough, we had one more course to go. We ordered one of each of the desserts as well– the baked brie and caramelized apples, raspberry tart, and chocolate cake. Each dessert was unique and tasty in its own way. My personal favorite was the chocolate cake, which had a wafer-like bottom layer, and decadent chocolate flavor. It was served with a banana mango ice cream that really complimented the richness of the chocolate. Overall, this was a fantastic meal, with attentive and nice servers. Definitely a great choice if you’re looking for a high-class, non-pretentious, fancy dinner in the Gaslamp.

I came here last Monday with my girlfriends for Restaurant Week. Customer service was very friendly, although forgetful at times. $ 403 course meal Panko Crusted Crab Cake — Delicious! Spicy aioli was a great addition. ($ 20 upgrade) Blue Point Surf n’ Turf = 5 oz. filet mignon & ½ Maine lobster croustillant in phyllo dough. — I should have clarified how the Maine lobster would be prepared because I, as well as the girls, assumed we were going to get a lobster tail. Always clarify & in my case, read the entire description! Lol. The filet mignon was tender & good. However, the sauce that it came with was extremely thick & overpowered the meat. The Maine lobster was prepared as 2 rolls, similar to spring rolls. It was decent… This was definitely not worth a $ 20 upgrade. Raspberry Speculous Tart — Where was the Speculous?! With the combination of raspberry & lemon, this dessert was way too sour. The menu was definitely confusing & I was bummed that the items I ordered did not turn out as I expected. They do not have their own parking but there are parking garages, metered parking, & other restaurants’ valet close by.

4 stars for a fresh, well prepared but not especially innovative meal– a solid safe choice for your palate. Excellent service — special shoutout to our server Marc :) Marc was attentive but not hovering and took the time to explain and inquire after each course. Also appreciated that even though it was a slower night there were more than enough staff on the floor. Oysters were super fresh and delicious… Tempura squash blossoms were as expected with a fairly light batter. Crab cake(or log) was excellent and didn’t have the weird taste of canned crab. Short ribs(are not my favorite cut of meat) but were braised fairly tenderly and paired with a yummy kale lasagna. Homemade ice cream was good but not particularly notable, would definitely highly recommend the chocolate cake with the passion fruit coulis! Would recommend if you are looking for something(very) good but not necessarily exciting.

Came here tonight for restaurant week. Very impressed with the service we received from so many different people at this restaurant. There was a new face filling out water, taking our dishes or checking in on us every time! I had to take away one star for the food. Some of the items came across a little too salty to me. Tried a couple different dishes tonight: crab cakes, tempura blossom, surf n turf, and royal chocolate cake. My favorite was by far the chocolate cake that came with a banana mango sorbet. The two balance each other perfectly. Next time we try this restaurant, we would probably try their happy hour. $ 1 oysters and $ 10 appetizers. Good drink specials too.

Came here for dinner with another couple. There is a new chef so we lucked out in trying some new items from our last visit. I ordered the cherry mule($ 12) to start. Complimentary warm bread and soft butter was served for our table while we perused the menu. I ordered the Lobster Oscar as my entrée(half live maine lobster stuffed with jumbo blue crab meat). The entrée comes with 2 sides and I ordered the garlic mashed and wild mushrooms. I really liked my lobster especially while the warm drawn butter. Delicious… The husband ordered the 12oz NY Strip with fingerling potatoes and a side salad. I didn’t care for his steak and it was just smothered with peppercorn sauce. IMO, the sauce should be on the side as steak is supposed to be simply seasoned with salt and pepper. There was just too much sauce and I was turned off with a bite from his steak. For dessert we decided to order the housemade sorbet. Great for cleansing the palate after a nice meal. Service was great and there were different staff assisting our table. This restaurant is known for the seafood, so stick with the seafood.

We came here for HH before the Unilocal event because we saw the HH oysters for $ 1! We never really think of Blue Point when we go downtown but now will. Blue point isn’t trying to be cool or trendy(like sear sucker across the street), it really is old fashioned date night with good service, good ambiance and no loud music or trendy hipster bartenders who takes 15 minutes to make you that whiskey sour. The food is really good. I didn’t know they were part of the Cohn group, which in my opinion is one of the best restaurant groups to be in. Their menus are always unique and well executed. We came for the oysters and it didn’t disappoint! We also got a tasting of some of their dishes and it was excellent! We are planning to return to try their regular menu.

My… my I just want to say that I visited on December 20th and I was blown away. During the my meal, I tasted many different dishes. My ultimate favorite dish was the Wild Mushroom ravioli in the port wine truffle sauce, which was paired for me with a Delgadillo Red blend from Napa Valley, NV. I also favored the kale salad with the fried ball of goat cheese. Together they flavored each other. I am also a really big fan of hard apple cider so for me it was well received! I think that the staff is really knowledgable about their food and their wine. Nathan is a first level sommelier and also FOD manager. Speaking with him about the wines and he also referred some drinks to try next time we visit. We will visit again in 2016! Have a Happy New Year All!!!

Each year, my girlfriend and I meticulously choose which upscale restaurant she would like to celebrate her birthday at. This year, she chose Blue Point Coastal. We were not disappointed. Prior to our arrival, I had arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be delivered for our table and the staff was very accommodating to it. We arrived before our reservation to sit at the bar and enjoy their Happy Hour menu. The bartender there was VERY helpful in explaining to us the menu and drink specials. I wish I remembered his name, but he was wearing a blue dress shirt. We ordered 10 oysters($ 1 each!), squash blossoms($ 10), glass of chardonnay and merlot($ 5 each). The squash blossoms were filled with blue crabmeat and garlic aioli and lightly fried to perfection. It wasn’t too oily and is great for sharing with two. The oysters were FRESH and shucked in front of us. The size of each oyster meat was like a credit card. No kidding. That is the best oyster deal I have ever had. To accompany the apps were two great drinks that we carried onto our dinner table. The flowers I ordered were sitting right on our table next to a reserved sign. The table the staff reserved was great because it was one of the coveted center circular tables with a round sofa. Everyone said happy birthday to my gf. Our waitress, Abby, was very welcoming and took great photos for us. She was an overall outstanding waitress the whole night. She took the time to explain items to us that we didn’t know about. We ended up ordered the Lobster Bisque($ 12), Lobster Oscar($ 48) and Lobster Risotto($ 36). The food was accompanied with complimentary bread and butter with an amuse bouche consisting of a grilled cherry tomato on small bread with basil aioli. Abby was gracious to split the lobster bisque between us so we each got a plate of soup. The Lobster Oscar was the star of the night. It consisted of a 1.5 lb lobster cut in half and topped with crabmeat and two sides, which we ordered creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were pillowy and had a hint of garlic. The creamed spinach wasn’t stringy and frozen, but velvety. The lobster meat was so delicious and not overcooked to the point of being gummy. It was tender and we were given clarified butter to dip in. The lobster rissotto was good as well, although the rice seemed slightly undercooked since the grains had a bit of a hard texture. But the sauce was creamy and they provided a good amount of lobster meat with parmesan shavings. Finally, we were given a surprise birthday dessert called«royal chocolate cake» consisting of a chocolate cake with banana mango sorbet. It was a perfect ending to a great night. I am very glad we came here for her birthday and will most likely return to the happy hour for more oysters!

The wife and I returned again to this quaint Gaslamp eating venue… this time without the the constant crying and screaming of an infant seated with parents in the booth next to us(blame the parents for that)! *As a side note, management was very apologetic and took very good care of us, all things considered. Started the evening with some very tasty oysters on the half shell and a couple of awesome Old Fashioneds… the molasses sugar cubes are a great addition to this classic beverage. Loved the tasty vinegret vs the usual«cocktail» sauce for the oysters! We dined on swordfish and filet. Both dishes were perfectly prepared. The fish was moist and the fillet was a perfect medium. The service was attentive without being smothering and the meal was nicely paced. Love this place for late night dining… see you again soon!

I was in the mood for seafood and decide to go to Blue Point Coastal. We were immediately seated in one of the large circular seats located by the bar. The restaurant was crowded as there were several large parties being served. We were greeted by our waitress who reviewed the menu and told us about the daily specials. I decided on the beef and reef oscar style and my husband had the wild Chilean seabass. Since the restaurant was so crowded we decided to order an appetizer as we thought it would take a long time to be served our meal. We were wrong. The beef and reef was a half pound of Maine lobster in a phyllo dough with spinach and wild mushrooms and 5 oz beef tenderloin with crab on top with garlic mashed potatoes. The presentation was beautiful the food was amazing. The flavors were well balanced and each component of the dish complimented the other. The phyllo dough was flaky and tender with each bite filled with mouth watering lobster meat. The Tenderloin was perfectly seared on top and well cooked in the center with a large topping of crab meat. Although this dish was rather expensive about $ 60 it was well worth every savory morsel. My husband’s wild Chilean seabass was a work of art. The seabass came with cilantro jasmine rice, vegetables and a chutney. The skin was crispy and the large piece of fish was perfectly cooked. It was tender, moist and juicy. The chutney was unexpected with a beautiful hint of spicy and sweet at the same time. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere was inviting and the piece de resistance was the food.

This was a nice spot to grab some dinner. Everyone in my group really enjoyed their food. They have some real reasonable prices too. I had the lobster risotto which I really enjoyed, it was solid. We all sampled some each others food. The octopus was very good and so was the swordfish. It’s looks pretty fancy but I think it’s more casual type of clientele. Also I know its $$$ but really most the food is on the low end of that. I would recommend this place if you’re in town in the area. 2 people can expect to eat for under $ 100 and be really food and satisfied.

WOW. I loved this place, I started off with the oysters and it was amazing. This place served the cleanest freshest oysters ever, I will definitely be back for that. I ordered the half lobster stuffed with blue crab meat and boy was that delicious. My bf and his mother ordered the salmon and they both said it was one of the best salmon dishes they have ever had which was good to hear. The only problem we had the night when we ate here was that my bf’s dad noticed that the top half of his lobster was previously shelled out. He began complaining that perhaps they scooped out the top half of his lobster to make his lobster bisque soup. The management offered to make it right for him by preparing another lobster half to make up for whatever was missing in his whole lobster. That was great and impressed the table with Blue Point’s great service. All together the bill was around $ 600 for 6 of us with drinks and tips so this place isn’t too cheap, but it was definitely worth it.

This place by reviews was good for happy hour oysters for a dollar each. They also have other items like calamari and burgers during the time too. The only catch is that happy hour has to be on the patio and during the summer it gets really hot. The service was good and the oysters were fresh and a good afternoon snack.

Likely one of my favorite upscale seafood places in all of San Diego. The food is always fresh, the service is always great and the drinks are always awesome. Good food and service comes with a price tag however, but I would recommend this place to anyone and its also near all the bars and clubs in the gaslamp
